quillpaw isn't disrespectful, not in his mind at least. he just doesn't see the point of rules and likes to test the waters. he was the grandson of dawnstar (he's chosen to ignore who his parents are, sorry lostspark and darkfall), the queen of mean. he felt as though he was possibly just a tad bit immune to any negative consequences if he did break a rule.

he's a little wary of mistlewhisker, though. she seemed pretty stern, so he'd stick to testing the waters for now.

he lingers near the entrance of the warrior's den, peering inside. amber-blue eyes scan the inside of the cave, looking for a familiar black pelted cat. he spots her with relative ease, moseying on over. he doesn't bother to tip toe or be quiet despite it being the early hours of the morning. "mistlewhisker," quillpaw meows, "take me training."

Mistlewhisker glanced down at the tiny apprentice who ordered her to take him training. She stared at him for a long moment before nodding. "Alright." Straight and to the point, then. She had to watch this kit--ensure that he didn't think he deserved special treatment just because he was the son of two of the most well known cats in the clan, and grandson of the most powerful.

Mistlewhisker led Quillpaw out of camp, her long tail swishing behind her as she took him to their first destination. He hadn't specified which training he wanted, which meant they were starting with the most simple. Borders tour. The RiverClan border was even marshier than the rest of their territory, and peepers called out into the afternoon. She stopped, gesturing to the other side with her tail. "This is the Saltmeadow Marsh. Our border with RiverClan. That water separating us is easy to cross, though during the rainy season the mud can be a nuisance." She looked down at Quillpaw, her pale green eye piercing. "What can you scent here?" She didn't want to spend too long at each border, but she would be remiss to not let the apprentice learn the scents of the borders.

huzzah!

quillpaw swiftly follows after mistlewhisker as she leads him out of camp, strolling by her side. large ears are perked for the majority of the two's walk, taking in all the sounds of nature. the young tom drinks in his surroundings, paws tingling with excitement. he was!! finally!! out of camp! now he had every chance to learn something new.

as they near the border, quillpaw's nose scrunches briefly at the feeling of the land becoming more marsh-like. he takes in the scenery; all flat marshland decorated with brush and, of course the most prominent feature, a river cutting through the land. the mud got even worse during rainy season? grrreat. with a twitch of his ear, he parts his jaws. "fish, and..rotten water." rotten water. that was the best way to explain it as a small breeze blew by from riverclan's side of the border. ee-yuck!

"I'd like to go to the thunderclan border next." he states - not requests. just another way to test the waters.

Rotten water. Yes, she supposed that was an accurate way to describe it. Mistlewhisker glanced at Quillpaw. "That is the scent of still water. You will find it a lot in our territory, and sometimes the smell will carry. It is very useful for hiding your scent. The other clans are unused to it, and will avoid it if possible. We can use it to our advantage."

The apprentice then stated he wanted to visit the ThunderClan border, and Mistlewhisker found herself assessing the young tom. He seemed sure of himself, and what he wanted. She could appreciate that, especially since he wasn't requesting in a rude way. She would let him play his game for now. Let him test the waters, and find the line that she would not let him cross. The enforcer nodded, peeling away from the RiverClan border and heading towards Herondive Hollow.

While this stretch of territory also had water running through it, it was much smaller, and frankly a little weak. As the river melted further upstream, the waters would flow a little easier. Though she imagined it never matched the ferocity of the river in RiverClan's territory. "This is Herondive Hollow." Mistlewhisker announced. She jerked her head towards the other side. "Can you see the trees in the distance? Those are maples and oaks. While not uncommon in ShadowClan territory, they are more common in ThunderClan." Training her one-eyed gaze on Quillpaw again, she asked him the same question she had at the other border. "What do you scent?"

quillpaw simply gives a nod of acknowledgement before mistlewhisker leads the way to thunderclan's border. as the two neared, the apprentice could proudly say that he liked this border much better than riverclan's. even if the tensions between his home clan and thunderclan were high right now, he could admire the territory on the other side of the small stream.

"I like it - seems lively. we should take some of their territory." he remarks out of the blue, a little grin tugging at his maw. his gaze flickers up to mistlewhisker briefly before landing back on the trees that border thunderclan. once grandma is happy with them, he thinks. them being (for the most part) shadowclan's warriors.

his head tips to the side, jaws parting lightly. "it's..fresher than riverclan's..kinda like moss."

Mistlewhisker grunted in agreement as Quillpaw suggested they take more of ThunderClan's territory. Mistlewhisker had no desire to take RiverClan's marshes or WindClan's moors, but ThunderClan's forests were just as Quillpaw described it: lively. She was still frustrated at the loss of Sunkissed Creek, but knew that one day they would take it back. She just hoped to be there when they did.

Mistlewhisker nodded as Quillpaw correctly identified the scent of moss across the border. "Good. A lot of ThunderClan warriors smell of moss and decaying leaves." It was a more pleasant scent than fish, but still irritating. Mistlewhisker began padding along the border, not waiting for Quillpaw to follow. "Herondive Hollow used to be a marsh not unlike Saltmeadow Marsh. It was named after the herons that would frequent the swamp." She flicked her tail at the dried up flats between the dark trees. "It has long since dried up. There's not a lot of prey here either, unless you like crickets." Not a big bug eater herself, Mistlewhisker didn't understand why anyone would want to hunt here.

As they padded further along the border, the trees began to thin out and give way to brush and bracken. The trees became smaller and thinner, interspersed with gnarled willow trees. Their long, wispy branches were starting to bud with leaves as Newleaf came out in full force. Mistlewhisker looked over the moors on the other side of the willows, the wind howling in greeting. "This is Whispering Wetlands." The enforcer glanced at Quillpaw. "You know the drill. What do you scent?"
