The pain was familiar and unmistakable. Even having experienced this only once before, the forever queen could recognise it out of many. It became increasingly difficult to stand of four paws as she moved from the mouth of the nursery towards the back of the den where she had put her nest in preparation, paws trembling as she went along. A part of her wanted to call for Mossfreckle, a part of her knew she should. But the queen was worried; worried these kits would be still-born just as her first and only litter, worried she would break their father's heart by not carrying the little ones to term. They were early, even by just a little, and it frightened her to the bone.

Heavy breaths came and went, and the pain was insufferable. It hurt so, so much and even with her previous experience, even knowing what to do, she could not call this birth easy. It was taxing beyond comprehension, and the white molly couldn't help but wonder if it was her age or body that brought upon these difficulties, or her constant anxiety. But... When everything was said and done, they were alive. And Nightshiver couldn't imagine a better outcome. Fire writhing little bodies lay at her side, all healthy and breathing. She heaved some heavy breaths, exhausted from the strain of birth but all in all, she was okay. and they were okay. And that is what mattered.

Too weak in movement and unable to leave the newborns Nightshiver had called for Sleepysunrise who had been passing by. The queen felt for the youngest enforcer, but knew that right now she had to have some retrieve the new fathers - and dutiful as ever, Sleepysunrise went to seek out the only one of the two she could recognise, Tuftedtusk, and summed him and his mate to the nursery where the newborns lay.

The marbled tom followed Sleepysunrise quickly to the nursery, beckoning Owlthroat along. Entering the dimly lit and warm den, he would stop dead as his eyes lighted on the kittens at Nightshiver's belly. Five. They had five.

A loud purr burst from his chest as he laid down beside the queen, looking at each of his kits in turn. His and Owl's kits. Love warmed his fur and he gazed at Nightshiver with unimaginable gratefulness in his eyes.

"Thank you... so much.. Nightshiver. I.. don't know how we will ever repay you for this.."
