Kick you when you get too close to them at a time they don't want you nearby. Throw you out of monsters. Lock you behind silverthorn. Do you really want that?"

They would do that? Everest breathed, the kit pressing against him. They didn't do that to me. She told him, fear sparking in her eyes.

"You aren't old enough, or have seen enough, for that to happen. Did you see the old cats, how fat and lazy they were? That could become you, if you go back to your twolegs. It changes you, dear, and you have too much to offer to the world to just waste it with them, who don't understand or really care. Wouldn't you rather be wild? Two legs won't let you do that. They'll try to keep you inside their dens, and keep you prisoner. I can look in your eyes, and see that.
