everything's so irritating. the sun's too bright - when did it feel so hot? - and the ground is too hard - why do his paws hurt so bad? - and the birds sing too loud - could they shut up already? - and nothing moved fast enough.

this was taking too long and he didn't know if he was even going the right way. he tried to have faith, but it was waning just as the moon was. his patience was left to a glass-thin sliver of moonlight, ready to shatter if jostled the wrong way.

it was a passing dream, slipping between his claws like fine grains of pale sand. he could keep reaching, keep grabbing, but it'd always elude him. the rasping sound of it trickling back to the earth was a taunt that battered his ears with hellfire.

or, at least, that's how it felt.

and still.

give up? you think you have a choice? how weak are you?

he hadn't really been thinking of it. the thought ran in the background of his mind; he was aware of it as he was aware of the rustle of tree leaves above. he winced as the voice dragged him through the mud. "wouldn't," he muttered with a scowl plastered on his maw.

hah. talking to yourself.

his distracted attention snapped back to the present when the most foul scent ever violated his olfactory senses. it smelled worse than the dumpster he was Frankensteined back to life in. oh wait, that's just the scent of another cat. funny. he'd forgotten what other cats smelled like.

to his disappointment, the scent didn't remind him of any of the clans. dead end.

maybe.

perhaps.

"hey," he barked, emerging boldly from the bushes with a false air of confidence - or was it abandon?

he kept his stance open and grounded as he glared down his nose at them. "you." he paused. how exactly was he to go about this? it didn't help he hadn't started with pleasantries, but even after everything, he still had no patience for that mouse-dung.

"what's your name?" he demanded after his moment of quick thinking.

its been a long while since adder has ran into a cat. the sandy brown tom was caught off-guard as he heard a voice.

"hey. you. what's your name?"

He turned around, green eyes glaring at the strange cat. "that. is on a need to know basis. you don't need to know my name." he snarled. "now. leave. me. alone. go on, shoo. back to where you came," adder hissed. all he really wanted was to be alone. he enjoyed it, and was happy with it until someone had come along.

sure, they had been there for maybe two seconds, but that was two seconds too many for him

EUGH. what an absolute joy to be around. his left eye twitched with his rising irritation, like fire ants crawling up his leg. old scars stung with the flaring spark of annoyance and anger. carefully, with the caution of a surgeon, he drew in a steady inhale that, despite its purpose, did nothing to assuage his temper.

"yeah, sure, go ahead 'n tell me what I need, rat," he snapped impatiently. "and while you're at it, why don't you remove that stick from up your ass?" a huff escaped his lungs, sharp and mirthless. a secondary one followed it, distinguishable only by its relative silence.

he sighed and shook his head to himself. laughing didn't feel the same anymore. oh well.

"nevermind that, you'd probably take too long. where do you come from anyway?" he pressed, deciding he didn't care what this rat's name was anymore. "'n watch your mouth - this is a need-to-know thing, Mr. Self-Importance." derisively, he snickered at his own words.

sure, I need to know. he wasn't going to let the fire at his heels engulf him: let the flames lick at his fur like a familiar friend, perhaps, but never a bite from his flesh. stars, the promises he'd laid out before him of his own accord - it was like swiping at minnows in a rapid river.

you just need to sharpen your claws.

his jade eyes glinted with a desire unfamiliar to him. he didn't hide from the visitor, welcomed its (un)provoked bloodlust. it's all in the name of selflessness. who cares.

great, this guy had an attitude. adder frowned, he had half a mind to shred this guy right now. but, the question of where he came from caught him off-guard.

"a horrible place called thunderclan. exiled me for treason or somethin. been a while tho." the memories came flooding back. he would get that sagebite asshole if it was the last thing he did.

"why does a stranger like you need to know that, anyway?" he inquired, flexing his claws. "if you want more on thunderclan, i'd be happy to tell you about those rat-hearts. other then that, leave."
