Oh, she was overthinking again, wasn't she? They probably didn't mean it. No, they definitely didn't mean it. She shouldn't be acting like this over a joke, for stars' sake. Hiddenpaw let out a muffled sigh and got up to her paws, padding out of the Apprentices' Den and heading to her usual corner in the clearing. Way too loud and crowded in the Den. They couldn't stand it.

She curled up on her usual spot, tail wrapping around her body, paws tucked underneath her thick fur, and timid gaze cast downwards. She'd wanted some time peacefully to herself, but that didn't last quite long when someone walked up.

Slypaw watched Hiddenpaw as she left the apprentices den. She was alone, maybe this was his chance to talk to her one on one? He put on a big grin that was unnervingly wide. He padded over to the fellow apprentice. "Hiya!" he said, trying his best to sound friendly but it came out condescending and slightly menacing. "You're Hiddenpaw, right?" He lowered his volume, knowing the she-cat was easily scared.

Hiddenpaw almost jumped out of her pelt. She'd known the cat would walk up to her, but she hadn't expected him to be... That loud. Ah, she was probably overreacting. He wasn't even being loud! But then, with a smaller voice, he started speaking. Hiddenpaw looked up, forcing a nervous smile.

"Uh- uhm, yeah. I am," she murmured softly, so quiet she wasn't even sure the apprentice heard. "You're... Slypaw?" They spoke a little louder, not wanting to make things much more awkward than it probably was currently.

"Yup, that's me!" he said, proudly. Mama gave him the name, it was one of the few things he was proud of. Seeing that Hiddenpaw was still a bit spooked, he tried to make himself look smaller... Not that he needed to, he was smaller than most cats, even for his age... Probably due to malnutrition.

The golden braided tabby's eyes widened slightly as Slypaw suddenly drew in on himself, probably an attempt to make himself look smaller. Oh. Oh no, had she done something? Should they probably say something to him? Oh no, no, no, she'd only just met him, and she's already messed up. Great.

"Uh- it's... Uhm.. Nice.. Nice to meet you," Hiddenpaw mumbled, her nervous smile growing warmer. "How... Uhm... How are you... Today?"

"I'm doing great" he said, lying through his teeth. Slypaw noticed the apprentice's internal panic. "You didn't do anything wrong," he assured her. "I just noticed that you were still a bit spooked, sorry". He wanted to give her a reassuring lick or nuzzle, but he feared that might just spook her even more.

Hiddenpaw visibly relaxed, letting her ears flop more naturally and her shoulders weren't as tense anymore. She let out a soft breath, relieved she hadn't done anything wrong. Slypaw sounded genuine... But.. What if he was lying?

"Oh- uhm, okay. That's... Good. To know.." Her smile became much more natural, and she looked at Slypaw, dual coloured hues softening. "I'm... Fine... I just, uhh, get startled... Easily. But... You didn't... Do anything... Wrong..."

This wasn't as bad as she'd thought. She had expected their conversation to be almost silent and awkward, but it seemed as though Slypaw was able to move things along. Questions about training was always a go-to for most other apprentices, it seemed. She hadn't started her training when they ahd asked her that, but that had changed.

"... Hunting. Just a... Little... Bit. Uhm." Basic communication skills, Hiddenpaw, come on. "You?" Much better.

"I haven't been trained yet... I went on a territory tour. My mentor has 'nother apprentice so they're pretty busy" he said. Good job Slypaw, no lying, Dad's gonna be gone. No need to lie anymore, he thought. "I might look into gettin' a new mentor though" He liked Acornfall a lot but he already had his paws full with his other apprentice.
