Newtbelly
17 moons - he/him - agatha kitty
Another day, another apprentice. He rose from his nest. It still felt like yesterday he’d been training Tickpaw. Now, at least there weren’t restrictions on leaving camp. It was decently early, infact, the dawn patrol were yet to return. It’d be good to get Silentpaw into the swing of things from day one, he thought, might as well. He skulked on over to the apprentice den, realising many of them were probably asleep. Well, the early bird catches the worm, he supposed. “Silentpaw,” he gave the apprentice a small jab with his paw. “Training’s on, lets go.” Maybe it was an age thing, but this came a lot easier now. He’d been out of the apprentice den long enough for it to not feel weird. It no longer felt like he’d just only moved out - finally. That said, he didn’t want to stay in there long. He soon stalked out, and waited for Silentpaw, cleaning his fur in the process. They could get a territory tour done today, and go over a bit of hunting. Sure he’d like to start with fighting, but he’d realised that probably wasn’t the best choice for a first lesson, right?

Silentpaw blinked, getting up on his paws when he felt a paw jab him. Who thought it was a good idea to wake him up? He was-
Oh.
That's right.
He would start training today, or so it seems. Seems like Newtbelly had finally decided to start his training.
It's about time, no?
Right.
With a shake of his fur, Silentpaw padded out of the Apprentices' Den, eyes preoccupied somewhere else, and almost walked into Newtbelly. He stopped in his tracks and stared at his mentor, blinking once.
((Sorry it's a little short! Also mobile post lol))

The apprentice didn't take too long to emerge from the den, but was seemingly a little tired, almost bumping into him. "Morning," his ears flickered in an attempt at politeness, "thought we'd start off with a territory tour, best to get up early so we have lots of time." He was behaving just how he would have with Tickpaw, but he wasn't sure if it was the right approach or not. At the end of the day, he didn't know much about Silentpaw at all. "We can get on with some hunting whilst we're there though," the tom stood up, tail waving out behind him, "might as well be productive whilst we're at it." Newtbelly skulked off to the camp exit, briefly checking over his shoulder to see if Silentpaw was following. Was he meant to say something - maybe ask the apprentice how he was doing today? He wasn't sure his own mentor would ever have done that, so he decided not to. But, instead another question wormed it way into his head, "you been out of camp before?" he tilted his head. That seemed an easier way to learn more about Silentpaw, whilst dodging the arbitrary small talk - though, Newtbelly was never too good at conversation.
[dw!! i'm not bothered about post length at all ^^]

Silentpaw was relieved that his new mentor wasn't like one of those overenthusiastic ones, that was one good thing. He took a moment to take in what Newtbelly had just said, giving a small nod. A territory tour, the basics. He expected to start his training off with a little tour of the place. And hunting, too! He'd finally learn how to hunt! Silentpaw fought back any signs of physically showing excitement, but inside, he definitely was. He was liking Newtbelly and his way of thinking, so far. He figured they wouldn't have a lot of problems.
He was quick to follow his mentor when he walked off, his gait slow and measured, slightly matching Newtbelly's.
Then, a question. Something Silentpaw had dreaded since birth (Since birth???). Of course, he expected questions during his apprenticeship, but now that it had finally happened, he felt more detest towards actually doing it. Had he been out of camp before?
Now that he thought about it, yes, he had. Once. For the Gathering. So technically, the answer would be yes.
Not wanting to voice his answer, Silentpaw merely nodded, hoping Newtbelly saw it.

"That's good," he nodded back, "then you've got a bit of a handle on what it's like." Silentpaw was, well, silent, which Newtbelly didn't mind. Easier that than a super boisterous apprentice, or one who wants to spend all their time chatting. He traipsed out the exit, entering the territroy. First, they'd head to The Darkwater Mire. As they got closer, the ground became even softer underpaw, and the sweet smell of berries filled his nose. They'd reached the edge of the mire: Spruce trees covered them from the quickly rising sun, but as one looked out into the bog, they turned to tall pines - a small difference, but interesting nontheless. He'd stick to the edge - he didn't feel like getting his paws wet, plus he wasn't even sure Silentpaw was tall enough to walk through the mud.
"This is the Darkwater Mire," he stated, pretty matter-of-factly. "We're near the edge right now, but just ahead of us is the centre. It's pretty muddy out there, but it attracts the good stuff, like frogs." Just the thought of one made him hungry - he'd definitely grab one when they got back to camp. "Out near the edge there's more birds and stuff." He gazed about the area, wondering if there was anything else he should mention, maybe the berries? "There're lots of berry bushes here, but leave that stuff to the medicine cats, you don't wanna get poisoned," Silentpaw seemed the responsible type, but better to mention it than to not. "Any questions?"

Now having reached the Darkwater Mire, Silentpaw had... A few rather unpleasant opinions about the place. He hated it. The soil beneath him was way to muddy and soft for his liking. The scent was... Not much better than the rest of this monstrosity of a place, and the noise. A constant tapping and clicking noise could drive him insane. It was... Uncomfortable, at best. Why was he even a ShadowClan cat? This place was the worst place he'd ever been to. He would not want to come back here again.
Silentpaw shook some loose soil from his paws, grimacing for a brief moment before fixing his expression to his usual emotionless and neutral expression.
He looked up. He could see... A small amount of birds. Birds.
Firepaw loved birds.
He wanted so badly to finally learn to hunt so he could snatch one of those from the sky. Realistically, that wasn't possible. Silentpaw knew that bit. But wouldn't it be satisfying?
To Newtbelly's final question, Silentpaw shook his head. No questions. Only needs. He needed to get the hell out of this place before the scent permanently bore into his fur.
