The tabby stretched out, letting out a soft sigh as she licked her scarred shoulder. Today was an okay day. The aches came and went, and she was not so achy today. Good day for an outing...

She might as well do something useful. How about those apprentices...

Her eyes, attentive and hazel, scanned the clearing. There was one apprentice which caught her eye. A tuxedo with two-tone eyes. Shadowpaw, she recalled. Maybe she would like to give swimming a try. Her paws carried her to the younger molly without much thought.

"Shadowpaw, have you tried to go swimming yet?" she inquired, her airy voice soft and nearly carried away on the wind.

Classic Shadowpaw, lazing around camp with nothing to do. That all changed when she was approached by a warrior. The dark-furred apprentice immediately lifted her head to look at Herringfin, a questioning smile on her face. Oh, was this a training session proposal? Who could say no to that?
Smile growing larger, Shadowpaw got up on all fours and briefly shook her pelt.

"No, no I haven't, actually," she grinned, dual coloured eyes narrowing plafully. "Have you come to teach me, or are you just here to ask if I had?" Over the moons she'd realised that some cats didn't share her sense of humour. It resulted in her getting in trouble multiple times with warriors for "being rude". Oh well, it wasn't like Shadowpaw was going to change anytime soon.

Herringfin's ears twitched and she took a moment to process, before she let out a quite chuckle and smiled at the apprentice. Well, she certainly hadn't expected something like that. Although, she probably should have. She knew how younger cats were. After all, she wasn't all that old herself.

"It's been a while since I've heard an apprentice answer like that." she said, her voice a little dry now, with a sarcastic lilt. She could joke as well. "Are you ready to go out, then? We haven't all day, after all." she teased. It had been a while since she could be mildly snarky with anyone. And, really? She wasn't all that snarky anyway.

Shadowpaw let out a purr of amusement at Herringfin's friendly returning jab. Guess they'd get along well. First impressions were important, in Shadowpaw's opinion. She didn't like thinking too much into a certain cat. If she found someone unappealing at first glance, no doubt she'd continue to see them unappealing. And Herringfin here, well, made a good enough first impression. Shadowpaw was content.

"Alright, yeah, yeah. Let's get going then!" She shifted her weight from paw to paw and stretched her limbs breifly. Swimming, ah yes. Every RiverClan should know how to swim, no?

She smiled once again and shook her head, her mannerisms indulgent. She wished she had kept the energetic, optimistic attitude she had as a kit. That would be nice.

"Off we go, then." she said, setting off into the territory. A good start would be a shallow, mostly calm pond. She wondered if she could find one. Second best, a calm area of the river. It was a bit chilly, so they'd have to be careful of how long they stayed out... well, it would still be a useful lesson. Herringfin's eyes passed over territory as they walked, looking out for a suitable area, glancing over her shoulder every so often to assure Shadowpaw was following close enough.
