After a long day of speaking to Lesser Being and carrying moss around, Owlpaw was ready to KNOCK. OUT. Her sleepiness was slightly evident in her plodding, snoozy steps. The darkness of the den seemed to cozily envelope the cinnamon mottled feline as Aubs scanned the den for lifeforms. Why? Because she wanted to make a fortress out of nests to sleep in, of course! a fun little slumber party to keep her occupied and entertained. But alas, she was no villain (yet), and knew sharing was caring and so she must ask before using instead of borrowing without permission. One particular cat was spotted sleeping in a nest, and her turquoise hues quickly laid on the black and white cat in the nest. But he didn’t seem to be sleeping peacefully, he was looking.. disturbed. Tense. Like he was having a nightmare.

A jab of confused disapproval rushed through the apprentice as Owlpaw approached the sleeping denmate. Wow, he didn’t look too good right now, looked sorta sad. In his sleep, of course. Since she didn’t know his name, as usual The Huntress took the liberty of renaming him. Pretty pelt! Alright.. what was black and white? Uhhh gray and white? Oh, clouds! Storm clouds, that was right. So Owlpaw gently jabbed him under a rib with her paw to wake him.. wow, such a gentle tactic, and chirped, “Oi, wake up, Stormy.” Owlpaw looked quite confuzzled and concerned about the newly named cat. He should have happy dreams, not naughty ones!”Youre okay, just’a nightmare!”

Vinepaw jolted awake, his eyes snapping open as if he'd been doused in cold water. He stared up at Owlpaw, her face a mix of concern and curiosity. His heart raced as he tried to shake off the disorienting haze of his dream. He looked around the den, momentarily confused by the dark surroundings and the soft rustling of moss and fur.

"Uh, hi," he croaked, his voice thick and strained from the remnants of sleep. He rubbed his eyes with a paw, trying to clear away the unsettling images that still clung to his mind. "Thanks for waking me up, I guess."

As he focused on Owlpaw, he noticed her earnest, slightly puzzled expression. Her turquoise eyes seemed to radiate concern. He felt a twinge of embarrassment at the idea of her witnessing his troubled sleep.

"Stormy, huh? That’s a new one,” he said, his tone a mix of amusement and awkwardness. “Did I really look that bad?” He attempted a smile, but it felt strained and didn’t quite reach his eyes.

Vinepaw shifted uncomfortably in his nest, feeling the last shreds of his nightmare fading but leaving him with a lingering sense of unease. He hoped his face didn’t reveal too much of his turmoil. He glanced at Owlpaw, who was still standing there with her head tilted slightly, watching him with a blend of curiosity and sympathy.

“Thanks for checking on me,” he added, trying to sound more sincere. “I guess I must have looked pretty distressed. I didn’t mean to cause any trouble or anything.”

He took a deep breath, trying to steady himself. “I’m Vinepaw, by the way. I’m still getting used to everything around here. You’re Owlpaw, right? I’ve heard your name mentioned before. I guess I’ve been so caught up in my own stuff that I didn’t really get a chance to meet you properly

The huntress was very startled by Vinepaw’s remark? Look bad? No, no, he didn’t look that bad! Bad! Alert! Nuh-uh! The mottled apprentice blinked rapidly before shaking her head speedily in rapid succession. ” No! ‘O! ‘Cause your pelt col’r.” Owlpaw yelped, but found herself unwilling to call his patterns pretty although they certainly were, it peaked her curiosity. Why did she CARE?? WHY WAS SHE BEING WEIRD??? HELP!? Oh, he knew her name! Yippee! The apprentice gave a happy chirp in response included with a nod. Oh, Vinepaw! Well, Stormy suited him better, he looked like a Stormy. ” ‘Like the name!” came the upbeat approval, plopping onto her rump to scratch one ear. Nobody ever called her neat or pretty, so no need to keep a reputation like that.

Getting used to? Was he rogue before? ” ‘Joined n’ I was 3 moons, itty baby! Twi’ightst’r took me ‘n! Saved me from an owl, that’s how got the name! Used to be Auburn, sometimes still call m’self Aubs. Really liked th’ name Aubs.” her voice grew wistful for a moment before continuing to chatter on. ”What’dja dream of?” was her final sentence, prompt and quirky, as she cocked her head to one side with a friendly lopsided smile. No! Smile for REAL!! no sad smiles! Big ones, real ones! Come on, now, or the huntress will hunt for happiness!

Vinepaw felt his heart race as he waited for Owlpaw to finish speaking with such animation and sincerity. The warmth she brought spoke to him but also made him a little embarrassed.

“Thank you, Owlpaw,” he said, “I’m really touched.” “It’s not that I look bad, really. I just had a rough night, and I guess it showed more than I thought I would. But hearing you say my pelt is not too terrible actually makes me feel a lot better.” Well, I thought everyone named was perfect for you. Fits like it was cut out for you and suits your person out or character in.”

Vinepaw’s face relaxed even further as she recalled her lifetime. “Twilightstar? Yeah she has a remarkable strength and wisdom. It is lovely to know how she supported you and even give you a name which means a great deal to her. And ‘Aubs’ –I understand why you hated that. It’s so nice, such an inviting name and it doesn’t feel like it is too big on you.”

Vinepaw breathed in awe but with plenty of fears when Owlpaw asked about his dreams. “I had this disturbing dream last night. I had a vivid imagination about being lost in the middle of a storm without any idea of where I was going back to. That was nerve wracking in a sense. But when its daytime and I remember what my dreams are, they are no more of the same. I picture myself becoming a great warrior at some point and perhaps going on adventures to other places.

It feels as though I am on a quest to find something exquisite that lies beyond all that madness. Finding my way out of that storm,

Owlpaw listened with wide, intent eyes as her new friend spoke. Mhm, mhm. Stormy seemed to have a lot different dreams than she did. The Huntress's dreams were usually filled with strange crying and the desire for her momma even though she was dead. Those happened, or funny ones, or dreams in the dark with paws trying to grab her that Owlpaw laughed at because even though the paws were covered in blood they never did catch her! Ha! Suckers!

"Those don't sound like v' nice dreams 't'all, Stormy! 'M real sorry that they're so mean like that." The ginger tortoiseshell finally responded earnestly, one ears focused soundly on Vinepaw. She didn't want anything to hurt him! Owlpaw would kick some serious bottom in retaliation. "I us'lly dream 'bout big.. paws. Claws n' paws, all bloody, tryna catch me. It doesn't work though! I run so fast n' make it to the big sunshine meadow in time. Once I'metta star cat! Well 'm mean she wasn't dead, but still!"
