Poking his still-healing nose into the medicine den, Hillstrider let his eyes adjust to the dimness before calling out. "Mossfreckle my dude? You here?" It was quiet, so Hillstrider shuffled in a little further and peered around a bit more. Hm, didn't seem like the herbalist was here. That's too bad; Hillstrider was hoping to get the tom out and spend some time with him. With all the problems cropping up in ShadowClan and Mossfreckle's new fascination, Rookfire, Hillstrider and Mossfreckle's relationship had fallen to the wayside a little bit. Not that he minded! He was a cheery tom who could entertain himself. But even with his lack of negative emotions, he knew what missing someone felt like.
A familiar scent wafted over him, and Hillstrider perked up a bit. Oh yeah, Rookfire! He was the new medicine cat apprentice, wasn't he! While anyone else might have felt jealous that Mossfreckle's favorite boyfriend got to spend all his time with him now, all Hillstrider felt was enthusiasm at the idea of getting to know Rookfire better. "Yo, Rookfire! What's good, my dude?"

were rookfire a slightly less judgemental or jealous feline he mightve felt bad for the immediate reaction that hillstriders voice caused. the flick of his white tipped ear and the rough edges of what was left of the other one to rest a bit more snugly against his head, tension driving through his body yet remaining in a laying position, large frame stretched out on the hardpacked ground in front of the crevices holding shadowclans herb supplies. whilst his dark fur would probably bleed into the shadows, light difference surely reason for brief disorientation for most, silver eyes were sure to shine even in the lowest of lights.
it wasnt like he had something against hillstrider inherently, he had been nice at the gathering and appeared to be doing his work properly most of the time, truly a warrior as average as they come, but the fact alone that he was looking for mossfreckle was enough to make the other medic mildly annoyed. whilst rookfire, unlike his writer, had no idea about any of the actual relationship building that happened, rookfire had gotten the impression they were close and didnt like it.
once hillstrider finally addressed him, the medicine cat got to his paws, shifting from laying to sitting smoothly before wrapping him striped tail around his body to rest atop similarly white tipped paws. "how can i help you, hillstrider?" he enquired neutrally, ignoring the question addressed at himself entirely for the moment whilst sharp gaze ghosted over the warriors body in search of injury before returning to his face.

Hillstrider, blissfully, was unaware of the hatred that simmered in Rookfire's heart. Hillstrider didn't know the emotion of jealousy, so he couldn't fathom other cats experiencing it. He offered a smile to the medicine cat apprentice, tail swishing idly behind him. "I was just lookin' for Mossfreckle! I was thinkin' of taking him on another picnic." Mossfreckle had been rather busy recently, and Hillstrider just wanted to hang out with his friend. The last picnic was nice, though everyone had seemed rather uninterested. It soured the light in his soul, but Hillstrider wasn't going to let it get the best of him. "My dude has been on that medicine grind, and I think it's time he takes a break." Hillstrider grinned at Rookfire, knowing that if anyone understood it would be the other herbalist.
rookfire rejected the urge to tilt his head in question, draw whisker eyebrows together in a frown at the older warriors words. 'another' especially made him not necesarrily suspicious just...well, was it jealousy? probably?? but just..overall uncertainty. he hadnt known about this yet hillstrider threated it casually as if he should be aware of it. rookfire didnt like that. not one bit. "picnic huh?" the dark pelted medic repeated almost absentmindedly, striped tail flicking to and fro where it lay atop his paws. jealousy fueled curiosity made his race jump from conclusion to conclusion. he had never been clear with mossfreckle about anything regarding their relationship bar the one time he broke down at the simple realisation that he had a thing for the younger tom, so he couldnt really be hurt that he had gone on a picknick with hillstrider, especially since he had no idea when that picknick had happened. but it still...did not sit right with him.. were picknicks a friend activity? something you just go out n do with your buddies? rookfire could hardly imagine, but he could also count the cats he would consider 'friends' on one paw probably. "cant help ya mate, hes out" the medic finally replied, short and simple before giving hillstrider a dishonest but hopefully alright looking smile to underline his next sentence. "dont hesitate to come back if you get injured or experience any..issues, id be happy to help you" truth, for once. well what did he mean by 'for once' he wasnt a bloody chronic liar or whatever his subconscious had meant to tell him with that choice of words, and apart from the forced smile he had not lied to hillstrider once during their conversation. he would be happy to gather more experience and he was willing to help him in the first place... jeez was he really arguing with himself here...

Disappointment settled like a heavy stone in Hillstrider's chest when Rookfire said Mossfreckle was out. Well, there was always later--the freckled tom would be back eventually. Rookfire's offer of help in the future had Hillstrider brightening up a little, the orange tabby grinning at the medicine cat apprentice. "Aw, gee thanks, yo! Super nice of you."
He did sort of want to leave as to not bother the medicine cat apprentice any longer, but his friendly nature betrayed him. "I feel like we haven't interacted much, my guy! How're things? You liking the new position?" He sat down off to the side, trying not to be in the way. He'd love to be friends with Rookfire, if the tom allowed it. A friend of Mossfreckle's was a friend of his!!
hillstriders disappointment was so heavy rookfire was sure if it werent a emotion it wouldve hit him straight in the chest like a wooden stake, how rookfire knew about wooden stakes and thereby implied vampires? well, thats easy, he simply didnt, allow a guy to be silly in his writing. as if it was his bloody fault mossfreckle had other things to do. pff. but the ginger tom continued to be a mystery in of itself as he brightened up almost immediately upon his offer that was very much just a literal part of his duties. how one could go from so disappointed rookfire was halfway towards attempting to dodge the bad vibes to shining like the bloody sun itself would remain beyond rooks understanding and knowledge. but whatever, he wasnt metaphorically payed enough to care about the in workings of hillstriders mind. "no worries 's my job" he nodded neutrally, a small yet mostly dishonest smile on his maw.
'I feel like we haven't interacted much' yep sure havent, i wonder why. okay that was a bit much maybe, rook has simply been busy. besides the weird fight he'd had with hazelstripe that hillstrider had attempted to insert himself into a couple of moons ago and the very brief exchange of words at the gathering rook couldnt remember ever talking to the older tom. it was that he was trying to avoid him, but he was certainly not seeking him out either, so there were no complaints on his part about not interacting much or at all. "'s been goin' well, thanks for askin'" with his manners already summoned from the pits of his memory, he might engage in this small talk for once. "im enjoying it yeah, been wan'ting this for a while." the medicine cat apprentice offered, revealing a bit of his past willingly.
