roachflare had not expected to get an apprentice, not after moons of nothing, he had been a warrior for long enough by now, and finally dawnstar had assigned him a little whiny kit to shape into a capable warrior. the sun had barely crept over the horizon when the tortoiseshell tom unwrapped himself from mudslides embrace and slipped out of the warriors den to quickly stretch his limbs, let bi coloured gaze wander over the clearing (almost empty, most cats were still asleep), before pocking his head into the apprentices den. the young shadowclanner easily slipped into a teaching mindset, some of his former mentors spirit slipping into place and replacing insecurity and fear within him every time his honour as a warrior was at risk, as it was now.
"twilightpaw you have one minute to be out here and ready for the day, we're starting with battle training today" roachflare ordered, briefly regretting the just a bit too harsh of a tone that had slipped through before bi coloured eyes narrowed and he instead watched the sun slowly creep over higher into the sky, warm rays shining through thick dark trees.

At the sound of her mentor's voice, Twilightpaw jumped up, and skirted out of her nest and the den. "Ready to go!" She said loudly. Fallowpaw stirred. "Can we go now? I don't wanna be here when Fallowpaw's mentor wakes him up."

roachflare dipped his head 'yes', turning towards the mostly empty open space of the clearing, he wouldve preferred to train outside, but he didnt want to go through the hussle of getting a third cat and permission to leave to train outside. besides, he wanted to see if that apprentice of his was worth their title at all, before doing extra work for them. the first thing they did that earned them a narrowing of two coloured eyes was raise her voice into a squeaky panic at the thought of meeting their friends mentor. fool.
"we will stay in camp today, dont get overly excited. i aint goin' through the trouble until you've shown you can behave yourself" he mewed, sharp tone cut by accented lilting. "tell me whats most important for battle before we start with actual moves"

roachflare had half the thought to supress the sigh that forced its way out and internally reminded himself that the cat standing in front of him was indeed a child and not just a really small (if he could even reasonably say that about anyone else) really stupid warrior. "planning is futile in a lot of cases. being aware of your strengths and surroundings is important. you shouldnt go around pickin fights you cant win." a good plan could win a battle but a weak body and surprise could prove it all to be for nothing. the warrior stretched out his front legs briefly before taking on a more square stance, one that would give him the stability needed to fight cats larger than him.
"we're going to start with something easy. front paw blow, front paw strike and jaw lock. first up, front paw blow, the most basic it gets, sheathed claws you slam your paw down on their enemies head as hard as possible. that aims to disorient them while you plan your next move." the multi colour tom tapped his right front paw on the apprentices head gently before repeating the full motion next to them. "swing with your whole leg but make sure youre stable, dont want you fallin over. try it" was it a bit stupid to have them try that on him when there was already the faint feeling of a headache forming in the back of his head? no. would he do it anyway? yes.

"front paw strike. this time you need your claws out. you'll repeat the same motion but aim for your enemies face or front. you'll want to keep your attention on the force of it and how far theyre away cuz if you get stuck youve got a problem" the warrior demonstrated once again, slowed down and with sheathed claws he 'slashed' at the apprentices chest.
