A small kit(Cardinal) was curled up against the wall of a hole he had dug out. He was mewling in his sleep. His back away towards the entrance. The entrance was only big enough for him to slip through. He was scared he had somehow lived and escaped his abusive parents. He was only a couple moons old at best.

"I still say you're flea-braine!" A she-cat's voice hissed through the undergrowth. The loud stomping and crashing through the ferns certainly sending alerts to any nearby prey.
"Heavens help me..." Murmured a different voice.
"What was that?!"
"Nothing..."
Notch pushed aside a fern frond as he padded through the undergrowth, mentally groaning. How did I get suck with this cat? He honestly couldn't remember. They had both been together in a rogue group many, many moons ago and traveled a very long way together before settling down in the area. Somehow along the way, he became tethered to the most obnoxious she-cat in the world. That said though, while he'd never admit it, he would miss her annoying voice if they ever did part ways.
After they traveled a little ways, Notch finally drowning out the sound of Cricket's complaining, he thought he heard something odd. Notch stopped dead in his tracks, lifting his tail for Cricket to do the same.
"What now? Stub your paw on something?"
Notch resisted the urge to roll his eyes at the ornery she-cat. "Thought I heard something." He meowed coolly. There! There it was again! It sounds...like a kit! Concerned and curious, Notch carefully followed the sound, careful his paws made no sound as he had no way of knowing what he was walking into. Then he found it: a little hole just big enough for one tiny kit to curl into. He studied the kit closely before lifting his head and looking around. No sign of mom... He waved his tail for Cricket to come up to him.
"Cricket, come here." He meowed, keeping his tone even and low so as to not startle the kit. "There's a kit here."
Cricket rolled her eyes when Notch started to inspect the area. She had, of course, heard the kit's cry as well. She just didn't care. She padded up to Notch when he called her, but she glared at him. Openly displeased to be taking time out for this. "Kit, eh?" She growled irritably. Then she spotting the kit, and her eyes glittered mischievously. "Oh good, I was starting to get hungry." She growled, pulling her lips back to show her teeth as she licked her lips.
This time, Notch did roll his eyes at Cricket's antics, shaking his head in disbelief. No matter how much he sniffed the undergrowth, he couldn't find any trace of any other cats around. Certainly no parents or guardians. Strange, he's too small to be on his own.
Notch returned to the opening of the little carved out hiding space, crouching down to be as level with the kit as possible. He slapped his thick tail over Cricket's mouth to shut her up from saying anything stupid any further. "What's your name?" He asked, trying to make his rough voice sound encouraging, ignoring Cricket as she rolled her eyes.

Notch immediately felt a stab of sympathy when he saw the state the kit was in. Must be too young to talk still. He mused. "Hungry?" He asked the kit, hoping that he would recognize the word and at least react in a way that would let him know how to help the tiny thing. He ignored Cricket as she scoffed and plopped down behind him. Glad that she was at least staying quiet.
* He stayed in the back of the hole. He nodded lightly and looked at the other cat. He was in fact hungry, but was not up for being trustful of the other cats. He stayed away from them. *

Notch shot the brown spotted she-cat a warning glare. Honestly! Whatever was she going to do with her? Of course, she wasn't wrong. Not trusting strangers was smart. "Wait here." He instructed both the kit and Cricket, much to her dismay.
"Hey! I ain't no kit-sitter!" She shouted at him, but he ignored her as he slinked away into the undergrowth, straying far from the small grouping of cats to increase his chances at finding prey.
"Tsk!" Cricket hissed, glaring at the tiny scruff of a kit from the side. Why did she have to stay and watch him. "Don't leave alright?" She snapped. "Don't worry. Notch is a good hunter, he'll come back with food." Despite her rough and gruff exterior, it did sound like she was trying to comfort the kit. Maybe on some level she was? Whether it was because she actually cared or she just didn't want the kit to wander off and then get her arse chewed out by Notch was up for interpretation.
She laid down with her paws under her belly, body stretched out across the entrance to the kit's little hollowed out space. Her attempt at putting effort into ensuring he didn't get scared and run off.
* He watched as the tom ran off and the she-cat laid down by the entrance. He slowly crept out to her and mewed quietly. He felt he could trust them. Maybe? He had no idea. He cried out in pain a bit when he moved his back leg. It was bleeding bad and wasn't wanting to scab over. *

Cricket's ear twitched at the kit's tiny mew. She tried very hard not to look...why should she care? But she noticed from the corner of her eye the kit's leg and couldn't help feeling a pang of...pity? Sure, pity. She groaned, stretching out a paw and dragging the kit closer to her so she could lick the wound clean.
* He mewed in fear as Cricket pulled him close. STRANGER DANGER!! He didn't squirm as to not hurt himself any more, but still cried lightly. *
