Keeping his strides smaller, Brokenstream tilted his head as he looked back over his shoulder at Primrosepaw, purring in amusement. "Of course! We can't have you being a drypaw now, can we?" He joked, scanning the river bed until he felt he had found a spot shallow enough to teach the young she-cat how to swim. "Alright now, come here, dip your paws in but don't go too far." The Lionheart instructed, wading a little bit into the cold water.

Primrosepaw’s whiskers twitched with a mix of excitement and nervousness. She padded up to the edge of the river, peering into the clear, moving water with wide eyes. "A drypaw, huh?" she mewed, a playful glint in her eyes as she dipped her front paws into the cool water. The chill made her fur bristle slightly, but she quickly shook it off, focusing on Brokenstream’s instructions. "I’ll do my best not to make a splashy mess!"

She carefully stepped further into the shallow water, her movements tentative but determined. "So, what’s the trick to swimming? I’ve seen other cats do it, but it feels a bit strange with my paws in the water like this."

"The trick is to listen carefully."

The tom scolded her in a joking manner, flicking his tail over her ears as a sign for her to pay close attention. "Right, stay put for now." He meowed as he slowly backed further into the river, stopping when the water was about up to the lowest part of his chest and making sure the riverbed was still high enough for him to stand firmly. "Now, I want you to wade into the water until your belly fur is all wet. That's going to be the worst part. Once you do that, I want you to paddle over to me." It was deep enough that Primrosepaw's paws shouldn't touch the floor like him, a full grown warrior, but shallow enough that she shouldn't need rescuing.

"Take your time, and don't force yourself to be ready before you actually are."

Primrosepaw's emerald eyes widened a bit at the sight of Brokenstream wading into the river, but her determination didn't falter. She gave a nod, trying to focus on his instructions as she watched him carefully.

“Got it, Brokenstream!” she called back, her voice steady despite the flutter of nerves in her chest. “I’ll be sure to listen closely and take my time.”

With a deep breath, she cautiously approached the riverbank, feeling the cool water lap at her paws. She waded in, the sensation of the water creeping up her fur making her shiver slightly. Determined not to let it deter her, she continued forward until the water reached her belly.

“Like this?” The young she-cat called out, making sure she was positioned correctly before she started to paddle. Her movements were careful and deliberate, her focus on maintaining her balance and moving steadily towards Brokenstream. “I’m coming over now!”

Her emerald eyes stayed locked on Brokenstream as she made her way through the water, determined to follow his guidance and master the skill.

Brokenstream nodded approvingly as the young she-cat paddled toward him as he slowly moved back into slightly deeper water. "That's it- you're a natural! Keep swimming towards me and let me know if you start to get tired."
He instructed, making sure to stay in a shallow enough area that he still had footing. No need to throw her straight into deep water. Soon, he was at the edge of the other side of the riverbank as his light green eyes watched Primrosepaw's movements deliberately. "See if you can make it all the way across." He meowed, making sure to still stay in the water in case she needed help.

"If you feel confident and strong enough, try to dive under the water- hold your breath first- and push yourself off the ground to propel forward!"

Primrosepaw

Primrosepaw felt a rush of excitement at Brokenstream’s encouragement. She was enjoying this new challenge, her paws propelling her smoothly through the water.

“Got it!” she called back with determination, her tail slicing through the water as she swam. She was focused on reaching the other side, and Brokenstream’s guidance gave her confidence.

As she neared the bank, she glanced back at him. “I’m feeling good so far! Ready to try that dive,” she said, treading water and taking a deep breath. She then dove under, feeling the cool rush of the river around her, and pushed off the riverbed with all her might. She surfaced with a splash, beaming at Brokenstream. “How was that?”
