Rescue Mission [p]
[Hawkbite]
Enforcer Commander
Shadow Fiend | Agatha Kitty | Kitty Softpaws
Today was the day.
It was the perfect weather for the humans to crack open a window and enjoy a breeze.
The perfect weather to run the rescue mission he'd been fiending to do.
"Slytiger, Yellowtwist!"
The summoning was quick and simple. There was no time to waste. They had to do this during peak hours, or they'd lose their window. The two warriors had only gotten a hint at going on a mission, but no details aside from that as Hawkbite was working those out still. They were also told to stay quiet about it until the day of to keep nosey cats out of the way. There was no room for error here.
"Let's go," Hawkbite would signal for them to follow once the duo were close.
He assumed Dawnstar would be waiting, but he'd glance over in the direction she was. A signal that they were ready to leave. He wouldn't say a word so overhearing ears couldn't pry.
...
Once a decent way out into the territory, Hawkbite would finally speak. His voice was slightly hushed, not wanting to draw any attention from predators or other cats.
"We're retrieving Woollyfeather from the den the humans have kept her in. It's a simple plan. The humans have these clear entrances to their dens that they prop open. Too narrow a space to fit through and too hard for one cat to push fully open," Hawkbite described entrance. A haunting picture of Woolly's smashed toes came back to him. She was so desperate to get out, she caused harm to her paws that he wouldn't allow to happen again.
"Dawnstar, Slytiger," He addressed the couple, with a quick side glance. "You two are the strongest of us, you'll have to help Woolly push the clear entrance open. I'll try to help push too, but the entrance sits higher up than I'll be able to stretch once it starts opening. I'll be sure to grab Woolly and pull her out, if necessary," Hawkbite continued as he pictured the plan unfold in his head. He was aware of his height restrictions so he wouldn't try to play hero where he couldn't.
"Yellowtwist, I need you to stand guard nearby. The humans might hear us and we need to know if they come out. Hopefully we'll be quiet enough they won't be a problem. Be sure to keep an eye on any curious kittypets. The ones in this area shouldn't be a problem and there's no dogs around the den she's in, but be aware regardless," he gave the young warrior a side glance. Hopefully he didn't let his sharp tongue complain that he was on guard duty.
"The den she's in isn't too far outside the territory. We'll be there soon. Any questions? Things I might've missed?" Hawkbite was pretty confident in his plan. The only problem was Woollyfeather didn't know they were coming. However, he was certain she'd be at that window.
Woollyfeather was going to come home today.

The Queen of Mean cocked her head as she watched Hawkbite round of two warriors, her mate and the young warrior, Yellowtwist. Dawnstar had yet to see whatever Hawkbite and the other Enforcers saw in Yellowtwist. At the moment he seemed more like a gnat in her pelt than anything else. At the signal to leave, Dawnstar got to her paws and padded behind Hawkbite silently.
He explained the game plan as they walked. So all she had to do was push open an entrance that was propped open? Dawnstar glanced at Slytiger after hearing he'd be working with her. "Wonderful, that means I'll be doing all the heavy lifting. Wouldn't want you to break a nail, Tigerflower." She taunted her mate to see if she could get a rise out of him. No matter how many times she threatened the guy with bodily harm, death, or outright ignored him he stuck around like a burr. It was both endearing and strange.
The leader's amber glare found Yellowtwist once he heard he'd be doing the easy work, a lookout. She was expecting to hear some backlash at the decision, he certainly enjoyed running his mouth. "All sounds good to me." She meowed after a moment's thought. The way Hawkbite explained it made this sound like it would be quick and easier.

Re: Rescue Mission [p]
He twitched his nose. Something was crawling on it. Yellowtwist lifted his paw and placed it down in another spot. He lifted his paw to reveal to himself a dead fly that had been crawling around on the scar over his nose. Served the fly right. Why did flies land on cats, anyway? He wasn't dead. In fact, he was quite the opposite at the moment. He had tons of energy that day, but of course, the day he wants to go on a patrol, he wasn't called on one.
He heard his name called from the clearing and jumped to his feet immediately and took off as if it was an instinct in the sense he didn't mean to, but he was itching to actually do something. Besides training Pigeonpaw. Anything besides that. He could take it at the moment, but he didn't want to. He'd literally rather spend an hour with Palesong.
Whatever Hawkbite was doing, it was apparently rushed, so he didn't bother asking what it was. Instead, he headed out of the exit to camp.
After the warriors had left, Hawkbite was finally telling them what they were doing. Yellowtwist was focused on nothing so much he didn't notice Dawnstar was with him. Huh, well Woollyface- No, Woollyfeather must've been someone valuable. Dawnstar's presence didn't phase Yellowtwist. Might've during a meeting, but now Dawnstar wasn't annoyed.
Alright, so he apparently wasn't going to be doing what he assumed would be the hardest part of the mission. He was okay with that. There would be other things to do.
Aw, man, he was guard. Yellowtwist caught the looks he got. He looked back at Hawkbite for a moment, then turned to Dawnstar to stare back. He was certain they thought he would complain. There wasn't a glare, just a 'I'm not dumb.' He had already almost said something about it, and then he thought. If it was too hard for a single average cat to push open, Yellowtwist would do literally nothing. He wasn't strong, and there wasn't any way to get around it, like in battle. Welp, that was disappointing that he couldn't use his energy. Not as disappointing as the commander and the leader both staring at him like he was going to say something completely unnecessary. Thanks for thinking so highly of me. he thought.
"Makes sense to me." He meowed after Dawnstar. He was ready to go.

Re: Rescue Mission [p]
Slytiger's ears perked as he heard Hawkbite call his name alongside Yellowtwist. He stood, taking a moment lower himself into a stretch before he approached the Commander with a nod in greeting. He presumed that they were finally going to get the details of this secret mission, and he automatically fell in step beside Dawnstar as Hawkbite led them out of camp.
The plan was well thought out, and the details about the clear, propped open twoleg thing brought back vague memories of his kithood, but nothing concrete. He had left the life of a kittypet behind at eight moons and honestly didn't remember much from those times. Certainly not enough for him to add anything to the plan. Instead, Slytiger turned to his mate with an over-exaggerated huff at her words. "I mean, it would be a shame if I broke one, but you're much to pretty and important to get your paws dirty, so really I'll be doing all the hard work," he teased right back with a grin. He was totally going to mysteriously disappear from the Clan in the next few days never to be seen again because Dawnstar would hide his body so well, but it was worth it!
"I don't have anything to add the plan, but if the twolegs put a collar on Woollyfeather we'll have to keep an eye out to make sure it doesn't get snagged on anything." That could end badly in many different ways, but as long as they were aware of it (assuming she even had one) it wouldn't be too much of a hassle.

Hawkbite would listen, but not comment on the couple's playful banter. Honestly, he wasn't used to hearing Dawnstar speak in such a manner to someone so he wasn't sure how to react in general. He felt a little... awkward? Like a third wheel perhaps? He wasn't sure, but he'd pretend like it wasn't happening. Like mom and dad weren't flirting in front of him.
He would, however, acknowledge the comment about the collar. He hadn't thought of that before. Giving Slytiger a grateful look, Hawkbite would pick the pace up a bit.
...
There it was. The clear entrance that trapped Woollyfeather from the rest of the world. Hawkbite felt his heartrate pick up, growing more eager than every to get to that clear entrance. Although, despite the urge, he choked it back and merely gestured to the patrol in where he was going. He'd halt them at the edge of the property, peering through the fencing at the house and making sure he couldn't see humans walking around the yard or directly inside the house. "Looks all clear to me, but let me go first."
Hawkbite would turn to look at others. "I'll bring Woollyfeather to the clear entrance and inform you guys that it's safe. No one else is going to be taken today," he spoke with more confidence. His brain was racing a mile a minute, but he held back the thoughts and held a stoic look to ensure everyone knew he wasn't working on emotion alone here.
"If that sounds good to you, Dawnstar, I'll head in."
Only once given the ok, Hawkbite would scale the fence with ease before dropping down on the other side. His green eyes would scan the yard once more and he'd take a better listen to his surroundings. Everything seemed fine so far. Staying low to the ground and keeping to the longer grasses and bushes, Hawkbite made quick work of making his way up to the window. Standing up on his hide legs like he had before, the Commander would unsheathe his claws and tap tap tap on the glass until Woollyfeather came into view.
If Dawnstar didn't approve, Hawkbite would stay back and follow the lead of whoever she wanted to step up.

Well, that went about as she expected she apparently couldn't do anything to get on this one nerve. Threatening bodily harm didn't get her far with him either. And as he was too pretty to break, so he lives. One of these days he might actually meet his end at her claws, but again she felt he'd still win these irritating games by going out with a smile. Why did she always fall for crazy ones? Hmm, that would be something for her to analyze about herself later.
Hawkbite was going over the plan. She didn't find anything wrong with it and glanced at Slytiger and Yellowtwist who more or less agreed. She nods to Hawkbite as he takes the lead, unlike Darkfall, even though he is eager he keeps his head on straight and takes precautions to ensure he isn't leading the patrol into a slaughter or trap.
Dawnstar beckoned the other two to follow as she tensed her muscles leap up to land on the wooden fence. She didn't immediately jump down, scanning the area from her vantage point, and waited for Hawkbite to reach the clear stone wall. She bristled with unease at the unfamiliar scents in the air while watching and waiting her eyes caught sight of movement behind the clearstone. There she was.
Once she was certain that it was Woollyfeather, she leaps down silently joining Hawkbite at the clearstone and rose on her hindlegs, eyeing the wooden frame the clearstone sat in. So, she just had to slide her claws in and push up, right? It shouldn't be too hard. She waited for Slytiger before she began pushing, she didn't actually want to break a claw.

Re: Rescue Mission [p]
She sat on the floor, paws carefully tucked beneath her body as she prayed that whatever had been done to her feet would stop hurting so much. She'd given up on her spot near the windowsill. She couldn't land properly anymore when she jumped, and walking around was enough to make the pain start up again.
There wasn't anything worth seeing in the outside anyway. It would just be another painful reminder that she was a prisoner here. Just another reminder of how long she'd been trapped. No one had come to see her in months, and she had to assume they had given up on trying to save her, or forgotten her entirely.
Either was possible. It had been awhile since her shared dream with Hawkbite. He'd promised....
She'd stopped hoping about a week after, with no sight of her friend. No sign she'd possibly missed him trying to come find her. She'd accepted that everyone else had moved on.
.
.
Her eyes were squeezed shut when a sound outside the house caught her attention. As much as she truly didn't believe anyone was coming for her, the sound of scrabbling claws across the fence always made her heart race, and a distant echo of hope cry for attention.
But she didn't get up.
She'd stopped checking.
It never made a difference.
It certainly wouldn't make it more likely to be her former Clanmates whether she checked or not.
It wasn't until she heard an incessant tapping of claws across the window that she opened her eyes. It stopped, and so she remained seated.
Then, it came again, and she could see a paw, strange in it's familiarity and her heart raced, and her stomach twisted.
After a pause, her head swung to look over her shoulder, so sure, so worried that the two legs would hear and come to check on what was going on. But they didn't. They never did, unless she made a fuss about it.
Slowly, she picked herself up and hobbled across the slick floor, pain shooting through her paws with every step. It wouldn't even be the hard part.
She stared at the ledge of the window for a moment. Closed. As it usually was these days.
After a few moments, she jumped up, paws trying to grip the ledge without the traction of her claws to catch her.
And it hurt. Her paws were in agony, from the jump to the landing, it had all made the pain sear through her limbs.
She breathed for a moment before daring to look out. She expected to see nothing, or perhaps to see that awful squirrel that occasionally threw acrons at the glass. Her heart nearly stopped at the familiar sight of Hawkbite.
Her whiskers trembled, and a paw reached for him. She was startled when another dark tabby joined at his side, and then more faces, some familiar, some new join at his side.
She japed.
They had come for her. It had been so long.... But they were here. And they'd come for her....
She quickly motioned for the to wait. She had to unlatch the damn thing before the tried to open it. She took another moment to look over her shoulder, and watched for any movement. She stayed alert for almost a full minute, trying to gauge the likelihood of either of them walking through before she did anyway.
They seemed to be staying where they were, so she quickly jumped from where she was, paused as she winced, and quickly looked for the tool she knew would be strong enough for what she needed.
She grabbed it when it came into view, and she leapt back to the window once she had it. It was sturdy enough to pry the window the first inch, but just soft enough at the end it didn't break her teeth.
She set the thing down, and used her teeth to catch the latch for the window, and with great effort, pulled the trigger. She froze when the thing snapped open, smacking the solid material that made up the frame.
When no one came by, she dipped her head to grab the item, carefully slipped it under the lip of the window and used it to wedge it open, just barely, just enough. She couldn't slip her own paws under. She made a small noise, and hoped it was enough to catch the others attention.
It was hard to keep this pried open. It made her teeth ache to put so much pressure on them.
Dawnstar seemed to already be sliding her claws under. Woollyfeather hoped the support would be quick to jump in.
