'Oh, it's you again.' The grey tom blinked in surprise at the calico she-cat. 'Though I'm not going to start anything,' he mewed hastily. Staring at the ThunderClanner, Basil finally noticed her unique eyes: one pale blue, the other, a fascinating red. He hadn't known that it was possible to have red eyes. Her sleek, diluted calico fur gleamed in the sunlight. 'Um. I guess I'll be going, then?' Basil said awkwardly, not knowing what else to say. 'Uh, bye, I guess?'

Mapledawn tilted her head slightly in confusion, twitching her ear. No aggression was detected, making Mapledawn calm down a whole lot. She thought for a while. Does a ThunderClan cat and a ShadowClan cat always have to be enemies? Does the Clan a certain cat lives in really determine who they are? Mapledawn shook her head.

Of course it does. She thought to herself. This is for the better of both Clans. But then again... Could two cats from enemy Clans be friends? Mapledawn's expression soured at her sudden disloyal thoughts. It was horrible she thought that, but it did get her thinking. I can't make everyone my enemy. She decided, lashing her tail.

"Mapledawn, by the way." She spoke, shooting the tom an unreadable look.

Mapledawn. The name echoed in his mind. It was just, like, so unique as a name. But it fitted the she-cat perfectly. With a swish of his sleek tail, he responded, 'Mine's Basilwisp.' Could he be friends with Mapledawn, though, despite their clans being enemies? Basil knew that he didn't want to be enemies with this particular cat. But he pushed the disloyal thoughts away. I'm loyal to ShadowClan. I'm loyal. Of course I'm loyal. I'll always be loyal, right? 'Well, see you around the border, then?' he half-joked uncertainly, before turning away.

I can't be friends with ThunderClan. Can I?

Mapledawn let out a small laughter before turning away herself as well, the words of the tom ringing in her head. Would they really see each other again? On the same border? That would be pure coincidence. Unless...

Basilwisp. That was the tom's name. Easy to remember, and rolled right off the tongue. Maybe she'd remember it for long. The thought of enemy Clans being friends flashed into her mind again. if they truly became friends... Would they be able to face each other in battle? Bumblestar wouldn't like that, she had already been lectured by the leader for something similat, she didn't want to show Bumblestar that she wasn't loyal to ThunderClan, not that she wasn't.

He was padding along the border. For absolutely no reason at all, he told himself, but he did know a reason. A reason he didn't- couldn't- can't- He just wouldn't admit it to himself. Mapledawn. The name flashed into Basil's mind. The pretty ThunderClan calico she-cat. The one with those mesmerising, two-coloured eyes, one blue, and one red. The reason he was pacing the border, just knowing she'd appear. He was being disloyal to ShadowClan; waiting to see a ThunderClanner instead of hunting for the clan. And it wasn't like he was guarding the border, either.

Nothing's going to be affected, Basil thought. The clan isn't going to starve because one single warrior, one of many others, didn't hunt for a short period of time. That thought soothed his anxiety, and he relaxed, but stiffened as a bush rustled. Hope and excitement made him leap to his paws. 'Hello?'

Ah, just as she'd expected. Strolling at the ThunderClan-ShadowClan border again, hoping to see him. The ShadowClan cat. Basilwisp. Mapledawn couldn't believe she was here for a ShadowClan cat, and something told her she shouldn't. That she should stay in her Clan. Help the apprentices, hunt. Fight for her Clan. But she ignored them. She knew he'd be here, and sure enough, he was.

"Hello, Basilwisp," Mapledawn let out a small purr, her eyes glistening with joy. She remembered when they had first met. Her eyes hadn't shown the slightest of joy. Only pure aggression and irritation. Her dual coloured eyes met Basilwisp's green ones. She swore she could see a hint of hope in it. "I hope you don't mind me being too close to the border." She flicked her tail and narrowed her eyes, slightly teasing.

'Oh, no, it's fine,' he responded with a smile. He felt a slight prickle of guilt; he was having a friendly chat with a ThunderClanner, ShadowClan's enemy! 'How are you?' He didn't know what to say, so why did he come without thinking it through properly? 'Any problems at your camp or anything?' He came because he wanted to see her. 'Or has it been peaceful all day?'He was bombarding her with questions. A lot of them.

But Basil just wanted to talk to Maple for once. An ordinary chat, acting like they weren't enemies.

Mapledawn gave a small purr at Basilwisp's questions.

"I'm doing pretty great, thank you, I hope you're doing just the same," She answered his first question. It was strange yet quite soothing to hear a question about ThunderClan from a ShadowClanner, and she found it amusing. Might as well tell. "There's not much problems in ThunderClan, actually. Things are working out quite well. May I ask the same for ShadowClan?"

Welp, time to tell Maple something important. 'So, uh, I haven't been attending much ShadowClan meetings lately,' he admitted, embarrassed. How silly of him! 'But things in ShadowClan have been fine, as far as I know.' And he was stuck without anything to say again. Basil stood there awkwardly as he tried to think of at least something to say. He thought... and thought... and thought...

"Hm, well, that's reassuring to hear," Mapledawn hummed, her lashing tail making soft indents in the ground below. She briefly turned back, her ears pinned in alert. She immediately turned back to Basilwisp, a soft smile on her face. "I hope none of your Clanmates are suspecting you being gone from camp multiple times for long durations." She murmured, still smiling but her eyes showing slight worry.
