Silentpaw was on his way back to the Apprentices' Den from a rather unfortunate trip to the Warriors' Den and back. The last thing he needed was an oblivious kit--or apprentice-- to come ruin his entire mood. He whipped around and faced the unfamiliar apprentice, fighting to keep his face neutral and not instantly scowl.

As much as Silentpaw wanted to snap at the apprentice, he couldn't. Clovepool will be disappointed in him for picking up a fight with a random apprentice he hadn't even met yet. And, to be truthful, this strange cat hadn't even done anything bad to him. It was just her tone of voice that really hit Silentpaw in the wrong spots. He merely narrowed his eyes, not going any further to show his frustration, as if waiting for the black-furred apprentice to say something. Either something to fix whatever the hell she just said, or to provoke him further. He honestly didn't mind.

Okay, maybe he would mind. A little bit.

Maybe a lotta bit.

It appeared they had gotten someone's attention judging by the presence they could feel in front of them. They couldn't discern who they were since no words came from them, not even a hello. Their scent wasn't familiar to them since they never bothered to talk to said cat before nor did they sleep in the apprentice's den. This interaction so far was feeling like that one they had with that Mudguy or whatever their name was. The difference was that they at least spoke to them, albeit with the same snark in return. This one, this THING didn't say a lick, left them standing there like an idiot, no one got away with that. "What? Too good to talk to someone? Or did you get your jaw snapped by some cat out there and can't talk anymore?" If this cat didn't say anything after that, they might just rip out their fur in frustration. Their remarks usually got a kick out of others, they always seemed to get a stick up their ass when they would hear what came out of their mouth. "Oh wait, are you just a sit-in apprentice, one of the lazy ones who can't be bothered to even do anything so you don't even know what there is to do?" maybe now this thing would say something, hopefully.

Now this cat was really getting on his nerves. He wanted to snap at her and say something to retaliate.

Lazy? Him? Anything but that! He might just be one of the most hardworking apprentices in the Clan! Obviously this oblivious cat had no idea. First Clovepool, now this tick in his fur? Could his day get any worse?

Silentpaw restrained himself, tail and ear twitching in annoyance but he refused to say anything.

She probably wants me to say something.

I won't give her what she wants until she can prove to me that she deserves it.

So he held his tongue. Not saying anything. This Apprentice will learn something today. Hopefully. She seemed a little too stubborn to learn anything, for that matter.

What were the chances they'd get in trouble if they wrapped their paws around the other's neck and squeezed? There is a high probability of them getting disowned and killed on the spot for causing harm to a clanmate. In their defense, the other wasn't speaking at all, with no response, not even a grunt, just silence like their name. At this point, the paw was ready to make themself into a bald cat just out of pure frustration from something not going their way. "You're insufferable" they groaned out though it probably came close to a hiss. "All I sought from someone was a decent conversation but it seems I'm asking too much of anyone!" were they doing this in spite of them?! Mudslide, or whatever their name was, despite being snarky back at them they at least spoke back, they had something going on for them! This, whatever it is thats happening right now was nothing it was like trying to talk to a dead body and expect a response out of it. "You probably drive your mentor up the den wall if you're like this with them, I might not be able to see but I can smell another paw when I catch a whiff. Wispypaw didn't expect the other to respond to their words, not like they seemed to intend to do so in the first place.

This cat was... Irritating, to say the least. All this just because he said nothing? What did this apprentice have against cats that didn't talk? A decent conversation? Silentpaw detested any sort of conversation, and especially not one with anyone like this! He wouldn't say anything, then. They can go be mad at a tree or something.

But mentions of his mentor? Oh hell no.

"... What...? Are you saying?" Silentpaw growled, his voice low, eyes narrowing. If anything, he expected Newtbelly to actually like him a little! They were similar, seemingly not much of a talker, and Silentpaw tolerated Newtbelly. And Newtbelly probably tolerated him, as well!

Happy I finally said something? Silentpaw thought bitterly, biting back the urge to scowl at the dark-furred apprentice.

Oh so they finally decide to speak

They rolled their eyes as they stood there momentarily, contemplating what to say next. Figures that it would take them saying something about the other's mentor for them to make sounds. Wispypaw didn't get why other paws got so attached to their mentors, they weren't meant to be friends just a means to get further ahead. They never bothered or tried to get close to their former or current mentor. Especially weren't going to try with their current one, they seemed more invested in their other apprentice at the moment. Whatever, this one could go seek training from others around them anyway. Their focus returned to the stubborn cat in front of them, they finally got them to say something and wanted to keep it that way. "I said" a pause to enunciate their words to keep the attention going. "That your mentor must find you annoying" they dragged out the tail end of it as they leaned forward and a lash of their feathery tail. "So, are you going to be civil and let me have a conversation with you or are you going to give me the silent treatment like an insolent kit?" they sure hoped it was the latter because they feared they'd grow old by the time they even got to conversing.

This cat was more insufferable than they'd said he was. Did they wake up on the wrong side of their nest? What was up with this cat?

"I heard what you said," Silentpaw snapped. Wow. That might have just been the most words he'd ever said to a stranger. "What do you know about my mentor?" He knew the answer. Nothing. They didn't know anything about Newtbelly, he presumed, given they'd say such things like that. He fought back the urge to roll his eyes. All worked up over him not talking? Unbelievable.

... Did not talking make him annoying? of course not. Firepaw' didn't think he was annoying when he hadn't talked much to her.

Shadepaw hadn't thought he was annoying when he hadn't talked to her, or at least that's what he wanted to believe.

And he knew for sure Newtbelly wasn't bothered at all about him being quiet.

"And your mentor? I'm sure they have a fun time training you." He wanted to snap. But he stayed put, not saying anything more. His ears pinned against his head, he bit back a growl.
