Owlpaw slowly nodded, feeling her pelt heat up from embarrassment. “O-okay.” She parted her jaws slightly, picking up a few different scents. She barely managed to focus on one before answering the questions. “I scent a cat from our clan, I think... Its kinda dull, and uh...” She turned to Lightstreak. “I think it’s safe.”

Lightstreak gazed at her apprentice, letting some of her approval show in her eyes. "Good. Do you smell anything prey-wise?" She sniffed the air again. There was a small hint of thrush. If Owlpaw couldn't detect it, she could teach her how to catch fish instead. Yes. This was all going well.

“I’ll try again.” Owlpaw parted her jaws to try and pick up a scent. “I-I picked up something,” She took a few steps forward, her tail flicking. “It’s uhm, it leads that way.” She glanced up at Lightstreak. “...I think.” Owlpaw flattened her ears, growing nervous as she waited for a response.

Lightstreak walked forward a few paces. "Lead the way."

Owlpaw nodded and turned to continue walking. She paused for a moment, trying to pick up the scent again. When she thought she had it, she bounded forward, her ears swiveling around as she listened to the sounds in the forest. She slowed down a bit when the scent got stronger. Owlpaw briefly glanced over her shoulder to look at her mentor, then walked forward, nervously flicking her tail behind her. A soft gasp escaped her lips when she spotted a small bird hopping around. She turned to look at her mentor, waiting for more instructions.

Lightstreak nodded, and flicked her tail at he bird. She looked expectantly at the
apprentice, then quietly got into the appropriate hunting position.

Owlpaw watched as Lightstreak lowered herself to the ground. It took her a moment to realize that she should probably do the same thing. She dropped into a crouch, trying her best to mimic Lightstreak’s hunting crouch. Owlpaw shifted around a bit, trying to get comfortable.

the battle was successful besides of the, well, death. the apprentice didn't know how to feel about it. at least starclan would take frostfall with open arms. wormpaw roll his shoulders, gazing at his mentor with squinted eyes. "i want to learn offensive moves, at least the basics, " he said bluntly. he had stayed behind to guard. he was extremely frustrated about his lack of a battle. if he wasn't a moon behind, he could've went. instead he had to wail internally as he waited. wormpaw unsheathe his claws and sheathe them, repeating the process as he dogged up island's dirt. "p..p ple ase…?" he wheezed out, tilting his head. oh! how lucky was dirtfur! the dark lord was begging. he felt so.. so pathetic.

Dirtfur shook his head, dabbing dirt on himself once again. He ignored the dark lord's wish. The small warrior's ears were fuzzy in a way, and his vision was blurry and dull. He blinked a million, hoping it will go ahead. The mentor thought up any battle moves to teach this annoying pest; Wormpaw was wailing, wanting to do the offensive moves. The survivor glared at his apprentice, snapping his voice at the lanky tomcat. "Stop whining, are you an apprentice or some kit who doesn't deserved to be a warrior?" he snarled, baring his teeth; he had a bad day, his visions and hearing are getting worse and if Lionstar finds out, he'll never be a true warrior and has to become a warrior! Dirtfur then stopped, realizing that he shouldn't snapped at an apprentice, even a wailing one.

wormpaw gazed at dirtfur, waiting patiently for a reply. the warrior seem distracted by something else. he suppose the death was also bothering the mentor. maybe the dirt was sad today. he paw at the dirt, the ground did seem droopy. or well mushy. it was usually like that however..? he blink, is the dirt depressed..? he raise his head, a bit surprised at being snapped at. wormpaw was quite used to it. 'personal space!' was one of his main reasons for the outbursts he guessed for most cats. wormpaw took a small step back, maybe he was invading dirtfur's space. he didn't mean to whine however.. wasn't please supposed to be a kind thing..? oh jeez, he couldn't keep up with manners. "are we learning defensive ones again then?" he questioned, brushing off the question. the lanky tom was pretty sure he wasn't a kit. kits were very much more.. rawr rather than roar. wormpaw figured it was the case, it was good to master defensive moves too. perhaps he could try adapting them to offensive ones in his free-time. that seemed nice.
