Goopypaw was more than a little sad as he lay in the apprentice's den. A single unsheathed claw drew circles in the dirt, a mindless motion to make while his thoughts were miles away.
Dawnstar accepted my plan to secretly kill unsuspecting Thunderclan cats. I should be happy... right? I mean I'll get to avenge Shadefrost and Ospreysplash... Hawkbite too... I'll be a hero! A hero worthy enough for Rot and Bile and Guts to call me their brother. Whereever they may be... He sighed. Where had the rest of his litter gone? Had Thunderclan killed them too? Lynxes? Twolegs? Ugh, there were too many variables at play. He needed to eliminate the unknowns one by one...
A voice as sweet as a summers day sounded nearby, instantly shooing away the dark storm clouds that had been raining on the calico all week. "Hi S-squirrelpaw!" He smiled brightly at his dearest friend, hoping he had erased the sadness off his face fast enough. She seemed... chipper today. Unexpected, but not unwelcome! Speaking of unexpected...
"O-oh!!" He gasped excitedly, scooting his front paws backwards until he was in a sitting position. She had brought him a present! His pink nose wiggled around his slimy face as the pebble was given a thorough sniff. Where had she found such a smooth stone? And why was she giving such a perfect treasure to him?? "This i-is a delightfully s-smooth sto-one! Where did you f-find it? Was it in the r-river?" His paws began tippy tappying in excitement as his mind raced with possible locations. What force of nature (or Starclan for that matter) had shaped the stone in such a way? And could Squirrelpaw swim????
@furrensic I loved your post, no need to apologize for greatness!! She is SO. CUTE.

Was this what it was like to... make friends? Cinderpaw can't be sure, but there's a warm appreciation in her gut for the ginger molly, and a brief, possessive surge makes itself known in her gut. It seems to be saying 'this one wants me, no one else can have her!' before Cinderpaw manages to stamp down on the weird instinct. Instead, she smiles a little bit to Flashpaw, dipping her head in thanks again and hobbling over to the nest made just for her.
It's bigger than she is - room to grow into, Cinder supposes - and lined with downy feathers. Hm, comfy. Carefully, she shimmies her way into it, testing the comfort level and kneading some of the edges. It's nice... the only ones who ever helped make her nest were momma and Nightshiver, so the gesture is already one she associates with love. Turning her amber gaze back onto the other apprentice, Cinder smiles again, taking in her words.
'Thank you,' she tries to sign again with a glance to the nest and back to the apprentice, followed by a gesture with her paw - touching her chin and moving her paw outward from there. Then, she moves her paw to her chest, a gesture she hopes comes across as a 'me too!' in response to the ginger molly's hope to train together. But she grimaces and glances to her leg - or lack thereof. She won't be training for at least another moon.
'What's your name?' she tries to ask next, tapping both paws together and bringing them apart before bringing them together again, a quizzical expression on her face. She's not sure how easily the question might come across, so she mouths the question as well.
[LMAO no worries ^^!!]
Flashpaw smiled purely in response to Cinder's acknowledging head-dip.
This sent a jba of pleasure through her veins. So far, so good. She was yet,
it seemed, to faze the apprentice with her stutters. A bubbly excitement found
its way into her heart. This was a rare feeling for her. More often then not she
quieted down at this point. After another brief moment she noted that Cinders
was signing. Something she had touched on. She watched carefully with each
movement of the fellow apprentice's paw. Me too. Okay, that was something
she understood well. Flashpaw then attempted to sign and speak back. She decided
if she struggled on a word, she would sign. An interesting method she could use
in the future. I-I-I b-be-bet y-y-ou'll b-be th-th-the bes-best w-warrior. Her paws
rapidly flicked and struggled. She needed to work on it more than she thought. A
tiny laugh escaped her jaws. G-g-guess I-I g-got t-t-to p-pra-practice th-that.
She mewed, M-ma-maybe y-you c-co-could h-help m-me. A tiny, happy smile
was plastered on her face.
The question about names reminded her of Magpiepaw, the eager, excitable apprentice
she had spoken to occasionally. She liked Cinderpaw better. More quiet. A little less
"HI I LIKE YOUR STRIPES" As Mags had greeted her with that one time. F-Fla-
Flashpaw. She replied, feeling silly for stumbling over her own name. Well, it would
take time to properly speak with little to no stutter, but she intended to get there at
some point. After a second she sketches a rough spark [Asterisk] and a pawprint
in the dirt. Just in case her quiet voice didn't stretch across the area.

(Lost is Cougarbites mothers sister, but shes like an aunt to his kits so these two are basically cousins.)
"I dont know him, but I hope he works out well for you. My mentor seems nice enough." Forestpaw told her. Then he realized something. "You're lostsparks daughter, right? That makes us cousins since your mom is my dads moms sister." He told her. "I'm Cougarbites son."

Oh, so she was related to this annoyance...wonderful. Quietpaw wasn't even that fond of most of her kin let alone some random cousin so she wouldn't be any nicer to Forestpaw than she was already being, but she wouldn't be any meaner either...unless he annoyed anymore, and that seemed likely.
Finally satisfied with her newly made nest, Quiet stared at her work absently. Now what? She didn't feel like sleeping nor did she want to speak to her apparent cousin. If she had a choice she'd simply leave camp but with the current rules in place she couldn't do that without a companion...*sigh* guess she just had to wait until Forestpaw leave until she could think of something to do...

Dipping her head in slight embarrassment by the praise, Cinderpaw can't help the smile that creeps to her lips. It's strange, she'd gotten praise before, but never from a peer, and never for something like signing - she wasn't even all that good at it, she never remembered how to say more complicated things, instead keeping her comments short or nonexistent. To be praised felt... strange. Like a warm expanding in her gut and infecting her veins. Attachments were not something Cinderpaw had ever had the luxury of making easily. She'd thought her family would be the closest attachment she'd ever have but... they seemed to have other ideas.
At the notion that Cinder could teach her new... friend? Is that what they were? Was it that easy to make friends? Just say 'hi' and suddenly you've become part of an unshakeable bond? Somehow Cinderpaw finds that hard to believe, but maybe it really did work like that? Still, she grimaces slightly, and, with a rueful shake of her head, she tries to get across that she's still learning - a tap to her head which she thinks she remembers means something like 'to know' or 'knowledge', and a rueful expression that indicates she's not all that confident in her signage.
'Flashpaw...' she mouths, thinking at first that she managed a whisper before she realized she only heard her voice in her head. Damn, that's frustrating. Wait... Flashpaw had drawn in the dirt, too... did she think Cinder was hard-of-hearing or deaf? Oh! No... Cinder didn't want that misunderstanding! She didn't want to pretend to be more inept than she already was! A little more frantically than was necessary, the tabby sprung out of her nest and made sure she was right in Flashpaw's line of sight. She shook her head frantically while gesturing to her ears 'Not deaf!' she tried to say, and then, gesturing to her throat where her larynx resides, she shook her head again 'Voice won't work...' She's unsure how well that comes across, but she doesn't want a misunderstanding!

Ivorypaw came up, scowling. "Hey, Quietpaw. You gonna be all silent?" the tom asked. He was ready to make her prove she was a true Shadowclan cat. This place was full of losers. Like Moonpaw.. oop, she was Moonkit now, right? What a loser. "Cat with a name like that isn't a true Shadowclan cat. There's only one way to prove you are. Wanna know what it is?" He cocked his head, smiling cruelly.
SQUIRRELPAW she/her. 10 moons. small russet molly with brown markings and yellow eyes.
squirrelpaw blinks. part of her could only pray that starclan would give her the confidence to get close enough to a river – let alone actually snag a rock out of it. knowing my luck..I'd fall in, she thinks, shuddering at the thought. she'd prefer to stay nice and dry, and definitely away from any water she could drown in, please and thank you.
she shakes her head, gaze drifting off to the side. "..no..i-it was, well.." she shifts, sitting down, bushy tail wrapping around her paws. "..i-in the territory..I ju-just can't remember..the ss-specific spot.." she explains, eyes landing back on the smooth pebble. it was on the way back from her battle training when she'd found it. definitely the smoothest one she's ever seen.
finally, she looks back at the calico. she wonders, very briefly if she should ask about..er, the missing three. she quickly decided against it, though. she didn't want to upset goopy!! or worse, start thinking about the possibilities of the three missing siblings being..alive. and well. she hoped they were. goopypaw won't disappear too, right?
she internally screams at herself, shoving the thought away. goopy was her best friend, the stars that lit up the night sky. no way he'd disappear..right?? "hows training..g-going?" if she remembered correctly, the calico was close to being finished with his training too. which was great!!

"What are you most excited about, or looking forward to, about being a warrior apprentice?" Forestpaw said, his friendliness not letting him leave this grumpy cousin be.

Noticing her cousin still hadn't left, Quietpaw was considering scaring him away herself when an equally annoying yet slightly more mocking voice caught her focus. Another random cat had come to socialise with her? No, not socialising, this cat seemed more intrested in patronising her from what she could tell by the obvious taunting edge to his tone.
So what if she was going to be silent all the time? She wasn't, in fact she'd said at least one word a second ago so she couldn't be classified as completely silent. Already cold gaze growing sharper as Ivorypaw went on the young apprentice found herself growing more and more agitated by him. If there was one thing she couldn't stand it was stupid cats pretending to be smart.
Not willing to listen to his jeering antics any longer Quiet decided it was time to put Ivorypaw in his place. "Being quiet does not mean one is stupid, you'd be smart to learn that. Besides if you have a problem with my name then take it up with Lostspark. It's not like I chose it." And there it was. Her sarcastic, ruthless way of speaking. See she may have been slightly less loud than other cats but when she started talking she had a tongue as sharp as a whip and it was hard to silence her after.
Watching the other apprentice with unimpressed eyes, Quietpaw soffed slightly at his offer to show her how to prove she was a "true" Shadowclan warrrior. She was an enforcer and medicine cat's daughter and Dawnstar's granddaughter if that didn't make her Shadowclan thet what did? Oh wait she didn't want to know.
"If you think a name is what makes someone a so-called 'true' Shadowclanner then I think I'll pass, thanks" Deciding she was done on wasting anymore attention on this menace the splotched she-cat completely ignored him and turned straight to Forestpaw who'd asked her yet another question. Why was there so many, stars. Not really invested in these questions and done with speaking for the time being she gave a simple shrug.

"Thats not what I was saying at all... I was just asking a simple question. I'm most looking forward to learn how to fight, because I have long claws and a capable bloodline so I think it'll be fun." Forestpaw said.
