Wavebreaker
|43 Moons|
As Wavebreaker emerged into the concealed space of the nursery the differing sounds and smells of the clans many kits confronted his nose, challenging him to find Starrykit among the dizzying array of scents. Wow! Even without Fadingstars kits in here there's still so many! As his initial amazement wore off, the warrior found himself hoping that meant RiverClan had a bright future ahead. In his heart though the older tom understood clan life could be brutally short. All he needed as a reminder was Starrykits sister. He tried not to let the somber look cloud his eyes, the small white striped she-kit would need to see courage to find it.
As Goldenwing padded through the entrance behind he flicked his tail in greeting once more tapping her shoulder. "I'm glad you came, He stated, audibly grateful. "Warriors are more than just fighters, I wish every cat understood that sometimes." Wavebreakers words fell wistfully from his lips, then he turned back to look through the nursery for Starrykit. "You here Starrykit? I wanted to visit you?" When he spoke, Wavebreaker was suddenly thunderstruck by the thought that he should have brought the youngster some prey to eat. That might get her to open up a little better, Wavebreaker contemplated. He turned back to Goldenwing face to face with her piercing citrus colored eyes.
"Goldenwing, do you think you could get us some prey from the fresh kill pile, I'm famished. I bet you are too after all that practicing." The senior warrior gave the she-cat a subtle nod, hoping she would understand that he didn't want Starrykit to think they were bringing her the food out of pity.

Cloudsong's head jerked up. "Well, finally, some cat brought new bedding!" He grumbled and shook his head to clear any small signs of sleepiness. He looked back and forth between Fawnpaw and Wavebreaker. "Ah, Wavebreaker." Cloudsong meowed and dipped his head. "When ya movin' to the elders den, huh?" He asked in a grumpy voice but the glint in his eyes showed he was teasing. Cloudsong stood and stretched his legs. "I suppose ya can line my nest." He muttered. "Make it quick." He added sternly.
Wavebreaker was surprised by the elders quip, He seems to be in good spirits today. The warrior had only ever known the old cat to be grouchy. He wanted to tease the elder back but thought better of it as his apprentice showed up and dropped her wad of moss on the ground. I have an example to set."Of course Cloudsong." The large broad shouldered tom dipped his head courteously to the elder, before turning his shimmering dark blue gaze in the direction of his apprentice. "Watch closely Fawnpaw, it will be your turn to take care of the empty nests next."
Wavebreaker padded to the recently vacated nest of Cloudsong who was watching the pair with his one good eye. He took his paws and kneaded the outside edges of the nest until the old moss layering had come loose and was pushed into the center forming a new wad. He put the refuse between his teeth lifting it out, before ultimately tossing it aside. Then the tom carefully broke the fresh wad on the ground next to him off into a smaller piece. He picked the fragment up laying it quietly in the center of the nest, before he began kneading all the edges to fit snugly inside the circular bed.
The warrior looked back at Fawnpaw again. " There. Good as new," Wavebreaker stated matter of factly. He then added, "You think you can do the same for the rest of the empty nests?"

Cloudsong nodded and sniffed the new nest. "Well, it looks alright." He muttered. He stepped onto it and padded in a circle, looking for a comfy place to lay.
Once he had found a good enough space, he slowly sat down and loaf sat. "Hmph." He grunted as a thanks and closed his eye.

Fawnpaw watched closely, narrowing her eyes to observe her mentor's actions. When he was finished, she nodded, moving towards a different nest. Okay, so, remove the old moss.. Fawnpaw stuck out a paw and began to knead the old moss, pushing it to the center as Wavebreaker had done. She picked up the old moss and tossed it aside, before grabbing a small amount of the new moss. She repeated the process of removing it, but backwards, kneading the old moss out from the center. "There!`

Sharp green eyes split through the fading evening light of the clearing. The old abandoned twolegden in the backdrop was painted with all manner of chattering cats, who were partaking of fresh kill and grooming their clanmates. Blizzardoak felt his own stomach rumble... He looked towards the pile hungrily, but did not padd over to alleviate his need. Leafbare is getting closer, and I need to make sure I haven't lost my hunting skills. He swiftly licked his long white fur, feeling somewhat self conscious. I't wont mean much if I come out of retirement to help the clan, and cant even hunt for myself....I just hope my left flank holds up. The veteran warrior had wrestled long and hard with his decision to extend his services within the clan again, he still wasn't sure if it was the right call just yet.
He only knew his Clan were dropping like flies, and cats were disappearing left and right. Thankfully their deputy Dusklion had been found, but for others like Eaglepaw that wasn't the case. He swiveled his head looking for other available cats to join him on an impromptu patrol. He knew he shouldn't hunt alone if he could help it. As he turned the scar running over the back of his head to the chip in his right ear followed suit, the black tuft of fur lining his ears bristling alertly for any willing participants. "Would any young warrior's be willing to join more for a little hunting tonight?" His voice was lined by the tone of gruff age, but still quite deep and commanding. "I know Dusklion gathered some patrols recently, but we have many mouths to feed. If we are attacked again we will want to make sure we have plenty of extra prey before leafbare to weather the storm."
The tom hoped his seniority would account for his somewhat lecturing tone. It was a task that needed to be done after all.

Goldenwing nodded. "I'll grab some for each of us." She ducked out of the nursery, heading over to the fresh-kill pile and selecting two water voles and a shrew. The warrior gathered the prey into her jaw and carried it back over to the nursery to Wavebreaker and Starrykit.

He nodded his agreement with the Lionhearts statement about the medicine cat apprentice. “Yup—she is. She helped me wit’ my jaw n’ all, she was brigh’ on the subjec’.” he stated, flicking his gaze to the temporary medicine den. Ah- right, he had to remember his check-ins. He assumed he could do it once a moon maybe? Unless it was bothering him that was.
His gaze flicked from her to his paws, lifting one as to inspect it closer. It was puffed up and just looked…odd. They were a lighter pink instead of their usual darker shade, and seemed mushy. Yuck. He set his paw back on the ground carefully, hoping to rid the sight from his mind.
Then- oh hell, he got caught. Now he had to ramble and stumble over every other word, great. “I’s jus’…y’know…I feel like I’m failin’ my warrior duties n’ bein’ a mentor. Since my jaw injury I’ve los’ mobili’y ‘n my tongue. I cant’ bite anythin’ n’ i’s gettin’ more sore by the day…I’m gettin’ trea’ed for an infection now n’…i’s jus’ a lot. I- I don’ wanna seek the role out but- I feel like bein’ medicine cat- woul’ be easier…” he sighed, looking to his paws to avoid eye contact. He didn’t want like to be overly-easy, he didn’t want a comfortable soft life and in no way was that what he was seeking out. “On the other paw…the new Lionhear’ role available—for some reason I’ve held a hope that if I’m worthy—if I’m mean’ t’ be a warrior…I could get it…Tha’s no’ why I voted for DuskLion to ge’ demo’ed or anythin’…just…maybe?” he didn’t know why all his wishing felt shameful. It wasn’t a crime to want to feel worthy. He and RedMire skimmed the topic a bit…
“’n- I hope ya ge’ Head Lionhear’, ya deserve it…” he concluded quietly, feeling like a desperate, needy kit compared to the hard-working cat he was speaking too.

Floodsight ✦ RiverClan | 21 moons | Mind Reader ; Beefed Up T1 ; empty slot
The silver warrior gave into a long stretch before taking a brief look out into the outside world. Once again the dappled light that filtered between the leaves cascaded into the abandoned two leg den and had warmed her fur. Though she'd been on a few outings and patrols recently, she'd thought a few more wouldn't hurt any cat. Afterall, Floodsight was getting a little antsy standing around when their new camp was soon to be found. It would be good to have a couple more prey stashed up.
She was glad to hear another cat propose the same idea. This one was an warrior who was way older than she was. Long white coat and sharp green eyes, filled with wisdom and knowledge of a past she'd never known. The silver warrior softly moved closer to the warrior and suggested, "I could go again. It's a nice day anyways. Better make the best of it."

As Fawnpaw proclaimed her success with excited words Wavebreaker cast her a disapproving look laying his ears low, as he nodded in Cloudsong direction. The elderly white toms chest seemed to be rising and falling with his breaths. I really hope he stays asleep. The elder had been kind to the pair so far, but no cat liked being woken from a nap. Least of all elders. As he made his way over to his apprentice he found himself envious of Cloudsongs ability to fall asleep so fast. Lately his thoughts had been so consumed with his former mate Irisdream he scarcely found time for sleep. But as he always did the tomcat let the troubling thought drift away for the time being. Knowing there was a waiting apprentice right in front of him. "Lets hurry up and change the rest of these nests so we can let Cloudsong sleep in peace." The warriors voice was barely a whisper, "afterwards we are going hunting.
Wavebreaker motioned Fawnpaw towards one of the two remaining empty nests with his forepaw, before heading to the opposite one. He quickly repeated the same process as before. Knead the old moss into a ball in the center, toss it into the pile of old moss, then finally unroll the fresh moss and knead it neatly back into place. Done. Once he was satisfied he picked up the large collection of used moss, and gripped it firmly in his rather large jaw. He looked over his shoulder to check if Fawnpaw was finished before he began making his way out of the elders den.
