Thistlestep moved to be positioned to Blizzardpaw's side, surveying his form before moving on. "Now move forward. Step lightly, keep in formation. The point is to stay quiet - you'll be able to sneak up on prey, close enough to where you can pounce on them and kill them."

Blizzardpaw gave a nod surprisingly he was stepping decently quite. You’d expect him to be stomping, but no he was alright at creeping forward.

"Now scent the air, and follow your prey. Stay crouched, keep your steps quiet." Though Thistlestep probably sounded like a broken record, he didn't want Blizzardpaw to get careless. "When you feel like you're close enough to your prey, you can leap for it. Use your instinct, not your brain."

Blizzardpaw wanted to prove to his mentor that he was smart so he decided to ignore his instincts and use his brain. He scented his prey before stalking it but while still far away leaping clearly simply scaring the bird off and faceplanting in a muddy pit. He just laid there.

Well, he wasn't surprised, but he did want to smack his head against a tree.

"Try again." His voice was a low growl. "If that was your instinct, Stars forbid I find out how you handle this using your head." He knew it was unlikely he obeyed following his instinct.. but yikes if he actually did.

Blizzardpaw flicked his tail,” I thought I’d prove to you I’m smart...” he muttered before scenting out a squirrel and dropping into a crouch this time he used his instincts and stalked forward and launched forward and too his surprise he actually caught the squirrel and instead of killing it he tried to smack it on the ground to kill it, but it escaped when he tried to pick it up to throw it down on the ground.

Who would've thought, the thing that'd take all day was the actual hunting part of this. Thistlestep wanted to smack his head into a tree more than ever. A nap would make this go quicker.

"Yeah, the only thing you've done so far is the opposite of that." Not that he had high expectations to begin with. "Why can't you just.. do things normally?"

Blizzardpaw gave a shrug, he hadn’t really thought about it,” I want to be unique and cool.“ he replied,” Invent a new way to hunt.” he replied he didn’t realize how frustrated Thistlestep was with him currently.

"But you're neither!" Thistlestep snapped angrily. "You're disobedient, obnoxious, and you scare off half the prey in the area. There's no invention, only loss." How did he get through the blockhead that this wasn't fun? Or exciting? It was a waste of time and resources.

Blizzardpaw shrugged,” I have to keep trying. I have to do something like that if I ever want to earn my place as Riverclan’s leader after Sootflare.” he explained proudly still not getting it.
