“Hmph!” she growled, narrowing her eyes at the tom. Drat. What now? She decided to dart towards the tom aiming to slam into his shoulder and knock him off balance a bit.

She snarled as her head got pushed but the thing that made her the most angry and fueled about that? Dirt. Her pretty face and fur and head touching the dirt. The sass queens eyes got narrow and dark and she used her back paw to go under his paws and her front foot to push his head down, hoping it would work.
GROUSEPAW THE TRAILBLAZER
⋆˖ The Fool ˖⋆ SILVER TONGUE - JUST A SCRATCH - BURN, BABY, BURN
"either or, it doesn't really matter. neither really phase me, it's war and war is madness."
"i can hunt," grousepaw grunted in acknowledgement as the dawning woods sprawled out before them. his head lifted, gaze flickering around. this was new territory for him, other than the occasional pass through, so he took minute care to file the area to memory. he wondered if mistle was sucking up to dawn by choosing the place bearing her name. probably. it earned a low laugh that pushed its way out of his throat during his reverence.
turning his attention back to dawnstar, he added, "or, i know the basics, anyway. practice can't hurt." a disarming grin tugged at his features, and his head canted. then, after a long beat of silence, he nodded and turned to slink off and find some prey.
[rolls: 11, 3, 2, 10, 12]
jaws parted to scent the air, grouse patrolled through the sparse undergrowth. ferns brushed along a thickening pelt, catching tufts of stray fur on occasion. the last stages of filling out into his adult coat meant shedding and lots of it.
hearing a low rustle, grouse slowed his pace and dropped low until he was crawling along the pine-needle soil, just a breath above the ground. his tail lay flat at his heel, tall ears pinned. then he lunged, bringing the wrath of the stars down on the mouse with ease. he loosely covered his prey, then moved to hunt further down the path he was taking.
he knew he wasn't really built for hunting- too broad, tall. too brightly coloured. at least those wide paws helped dampen the sound of his steps, but even then, his next two attempts were blunders and he was left thoroughly humbled.
still, his next two catches went well enough, and in the end he returned with a mouse and two nicely sized toads in tow. well, it was more than two, and for someone who very rarely got the chance to hunt he was rather pleased with the haul.
[1 mouse, 2 toads]

Tattered battle-torn ears flickered at the response from Grousepaw. Wonderful, then she didn't need to waste time with a lesson. Still, she watched him as he went to hunt down his first prey, a mouse. After observing his technique and assuring herself that he did indeed know how to hunt, Dawnstar turned away to begin hunting.
For some reason, she never thought that having a bit of extra weight would affect how she hunts. But it did sadly. Spotting a rabbit chewing on some grass, Dawnstar discovered that she needed to widen her stance to properly distribute her weight evenly and that crouching to a certain point left her feeling uncomfortable. She had to put extra strength in her leap to sail through the air and pounce on her target. She still missed, originally aiming to land atop the rabbit, not a few paw lengths behind it.
The rabbit's initial response to freeze and then run saved her from losing the skittish animal. Her long claws barely managed to strike its hindquarters and keep it still enough to sink her fangs into its neck. She felt strongly winded after the whole thing was finished. Grumbling about stupid spawn eating up her energy, she tossed the rabbit into a nearby bush and continued hunting.
It took longer than she was proud of yet eventually returned to the bush with a crow in her maw, a squirrel, and out of raw determination a frog. The leader returned to the pair of warriors with a few bloody scratches on her front leg and cheek where she had thrust her paw into some brambles to draw out the mouse she had missed pouncing on and completely lost, and some burrs tangled in her tail, the side of her neck, and hindleg after falling into a patch during her second failed attempt to catch a frog.
Her flanks heaved as she panted through her nose and her tail whipped back and forth behind her like an agitated snake when she noticed the other two had finished hunting before her. Her pride at being able to hunt in this state dwindled rapidly when she thought about how time-consuming it had been.
"Now I understand why kittypets suck at hunting." She grumbled under her breath while glancing at each of the cats and counting their catches. "Good work, shall we head back?" Even though it was phrased as a question she gave the pair leave to go ahead of her. She needed to get the burrs out of her pelt and clean up her scratches. Dawnstar didn't want Mistlewhisker pestering her with questions or daring to think she was incapable of doing patrols.
[ +1 rabbit, 1 squirrel, 1 frog, 1 crow ]

Darkcloud
Shadowclan warrrior
Purrks: Just a scratch and Shadow fiend(both inactive)
Nice to see her work was appreciated. Seeing that Dawnstar's question was rhetorical, Darkcloud silently started padding back to camp. Keeping a steady pace in case Grousepaw wanted to take the lead, she wouldn't bite. Now Shadowclan would be stocked with prey for the time being, her job was done.
"Bitternpaw, come with me on a quick trip to the territory!" The Commander would call into the Apprentices' Den that morning. He had a mission and he wanted to drag along the silver apprentice that caught his attention a week or so ago. Why not?
..
Upon arriving at the Dawning Woods, Hawkbite would lead the duo through the lighter forest. This was the perfect part of the territory for the lighter furred feline to blend in -- a hint from their recent lesson. The darker feline strolled along fairly at ease. He was well aware of the risks out here, more predators here than most of the territory, but they were still new here. Eventually that risk would die down with driving them out and marking. "You've been out here, haven't you?"
That wasn't why he was here though. There was an herb he wanted to show the apprentice. An herb that he was fairly fond of and could find just with scent alone.

A trip to the territory? Would this be another lesson? Rising quickly from his slumber, the pale apprentice stretches out his back as quickly as he can to force the sleep from his limbs before following the Commander out into the territory.
A new part of it, from what he can gather. Curiously he stares up at the trees of the unfamiliar forest, wondering if he could climb any of these trees. Well, actually, climbing wouldn't be the hard part. He was fairly good at that last time he tried. Getting down from these trees, with how tall they were, would certainly be the challenging part. When he's spoken to his attention once again falls upon the older tom and his first response is to shake his head.
"No. I have not been out here yet. I think this is just about the last place in the territory I've yet to see."
Convenient that they came out this way. Now he's seen it all!

Okay so, first impressions. This place was gorgeous. Large evergreen trees shaded the area, yet sunlight continuously chased down the shade. It was a nice mix and it made Mudslide realize how shadeless Shadowclan had become. Not like she hated it entirely. Emphasis on entirely. Magpiepaw was close behind her, but also constantly attempting to get ahead of her. For what reason, Mudslide wasn't sure. Though, she wasn't about to fight with a seemingly young apprentice, and Mudslide could walk much faster that her anyways. Though, with Magpiepaw's loud and assertive tone, Mudslide would much rather her lead the patrol. Yet, she probably wouldn't feel safe around her loud and abrupt yowls. There was no pattern nor familiarity to them and it startled the lengthy warrior. Eh. So maybe this was better.
Foxfury on the other paw was quite keen on nicknames. Mudslide had met a few cats like that before, just a couple. She never really minded it, but it made her squirm in some odd, uncomfortable way. Kind of like holding in a sneeze? Anyways, the warrior seemed to be on the same level of cockiness as Magpiepaw which might just kill poor Mudslide. One she could handle, but two? No. Thanks. Just throw her to the coyotes, please and thank you. Things weren't too bad though... Yet. So, Mudslide made sure to cherish the rare moments of silence as the patrol leader could never catch a break, mentally or physically.
Suddenly, the she-cat stopped in her tracks and nodded her head towards the area. "Here." She rasped, flicking her lengthy tail behind her and briefly causing a small flurry dust to plume at her tail. And with that, Mudslide slinked away, keeping her oddly colored ears as far away from the sunlight as possible. Yeah, she was actually starting to hate the lack of shade now.
She assumed that thyme would be easier to find than the berries since Mossfreckle implied they'd be found of the branches of a tree. Regardless of how tall Mudslide herself was, she wasn't too keen and drawing attention to that. But if any of the shorter members needed help, Mudslide would help. It was the right thing to do after all.
Without much else thought, the she-cat sniffed around at every green and spikey plant she could find. It wasn't long before she smelt the nose burning aroma of thyme.

"Why pick them when I can do it so much better?"
Yup, yup, yup, plant this, plant that, blah, blah, blah. Now time for some fun! Since Mossfreckle was oh so helpful by providing in depth descriptions of the herbs, Magpiepaw was itching to get to the Dawning Woods as soon as Mudslide guided them out of camp. When she was given a very eerily quiet okay by the patrol leader (who the heck talks like that!?) Magpiepaw was overflowing with excitement. "C'mon let's goooo!" She yowled, skipping across the grassy floor and giving Foxfury a wide and uneven smile. "I've been wanting to try one of those berries, now I have permission, HAHA!" So what if Mossfreckle didn't specify whether or not they were safe to eat? They were herbs after all. Plus, Magpiepaw wasn't even scared of them tasting bad, she was just plain curious.
So, it was safe to say that she was ABSOLUTELY INFURIATED when she saw how high those stupid STUPID plants could be. "Oh. My. Stars. I'm about to climb this tree, IF IT'S THE LAST THING I DO. Which it won't be because it won't take me allll my life!"
A trip to the territory? Would this be another lesson? Rising quickly from his slumber, the pale apprentice stretches out his back as quickly as he can to force the sleep from his limbs before following the Commander out into the territory.

Hawkbite waved his tail with delight about killing two birds with one stone here. The Commander would glance around the brightly lit forest around them and inhale to take in the scents surrounding them. "Well, this is one of the newest parts of our territory. It's been pretty safe so far, but predators love to hide around here so we must be careful. However, I brought you here for something different. An herb," Hawkbite spoke, pinpointing the scent he was searching for.
The Commander led the apprentice further along, his tail tip twitching with anticipation at the treasure ahead of them. Then, a patch of the sweet scented catmint came into view and Hawkbite picked up his pace. "This is catmint. It's my favorite herb to look for," Hawkbite spoke, coming to a halt at the patch of herbs. His gaze shifted over to Bitternpaw, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Take a sniff," Hawkbite gestured, giving the apprentice a moment to do so. The scent was intoxicating to the tom.
Then, the Commander broke his stoic character and dove face first into the herb patch. He sprawled out, twisting and rolling over the patch of herbs with a deep purr erupting from him.
Would Bitternpaw join?
Hawkbite would pause and gesture for the tom to join him.
Then, after a few minutes, the Commander would get back up on his paws and gather up a few of the loose herbs to bring back to the medicine cats. "And of course, we don't waste them!" He chirped, suddenly more chipper than he'd been in a while.
[ @Marigoldwhisper - sorry for the delay! feel free to have them head back whenever. ]
FOXFURY
The black she-cat wandered along with the others, letting her orange gaze drift around the territory in morbid curiosity. Usually she'd be chattier, perhaps try to annoy this skittish patrol leader for her own amusement. But this was the first time she'd been out in the territory since her joining, and she was entranced by visually mapping out the land. The pine trees were very different than her temporary territory in the outskirts had been, but somehow she felt right at home. It was perfect for her. Her dark pelt blended in perfectly with the shadowy patches of long grass. Plus there was minimal dust to get stuck in her fur like it had constantly done in the Windclan tunnels. That had been a nightmare.
The probationary warrior stopped behind Mudslide, craning her neck to hear her soft command. "Alright alright alright!" she grinned, angling the opposite direction as the strange molly. However, before she even took a step, Magpiepaw dashed past her, screeching in excitement. Foxfury returned a toothy smile. "That's the spirit, furball," she encouraged. Wait. Oh shoot.
"Hold up!" she called after the apprentice, darting after her with sudden urgency. Eat them?? How dumb were these clan cats? Thankfully the berries that Magpiepaw stumbled upon were out of reach for the smaller she-cat. Phew. Foxfury didn't need a dead apprentice on her paws during the first time she was placed on a patrol. "I'll show you how to climb this, c'mon," she said, leaping onto the trunk and digging in needle-sharp claws. "But don't eat them!" she ordered, "because I'm not lugging your limp body back to camp."
She launched herself up a couple tail lengths with a push powerful back legs, detaching and attaching her claws swiftly. Turning her head over her shoulder, she slashed her tail as a signal for Magpiepaw to follow. "Your turn Mags," she called. "Use your hind legs, that's where all your strength is. And don't forget to move your front ones so you don't trip."
With that, Foxfury bounded up twice more, orienting herself against the bark so that her neck could reach the spindly branches off-shooting from the main trunk. [ rolled a 1/20 for first attempt ] Unfortunately, she overestimated the strength of the neared branch. When she reached out a paw to pull it close, the whole thing split off, plummeting to the forest floor. "Whoops," she cackled, tipping forward a bit with the momentum before catching herself. [ rolled a 1/20 for second attempt ] She tried the next branch, but to no avail. The same thing happened, and a second branch fell out of reach. Why couldn't they have been assigned hunting instead of flower picking?
Foxfury scrambled around the trunk to the other side, hoping to have more luck with the branches over there. [ rolled a 16/20 for third attempt ] More gently, the she-cat hooked a branch with one of her nails and drew it close. With gentle teeth she snipped a small twig of the berries off the stick, careful not to puncture the fruits. Not the ripest, but they'd do. [ rolled a 6/20 for fourth attempt ] The next one was just out of reach. Grumbling to herself, she repositioned again. [ rolled an 11/20 for fifth attempt ] This time, she succeeded in snagging a branch, but in her impatience she accidentally shook a couple of the berries off. Whatever, good enough.
She was about to head back down when a rustling nearby caught her attention. Ooh, a squirrel! Gripping the tree trunk tightly with her back legs, she stretched out across the rodent's branch silently, hidden by the foliage. [ rolled a 13/20 for hunting ] In a swift movement, she brought a heavy paw down. It dashed forward, but not quickly enough to avoid her grasp. It was dragged back by the tail and smacked against the tree trunk abruptly, putting an end to the brief misery.
Juniper branches and squirrel clenched in her jaws, Foxfury began the descent down, shimmying backwards until she was back on solid ground to await the others.
