A warrior naming ceremony never failed to make him jealous. How he longed to be up there with the clan calling his name and Dawnstar looking down upon him with fondness in her gaze. One day, Bittern, you must be patient...

"Midnightpath, Midnightpath!" He calls quietly amongst the cacophony of his clan mates, too reserved to make his voice heard above it.

As much as he was grinning deviously at the newly named Midnightpath, he resisted the overwhelming urge to make his way over to her in front of everyone and make a fool of her. If she wouldn't hate him forever for doing so then he absolutely would have done it! But he decides he'll behave and chant along with the crowd, though his expression and tone is entirely teasing.

There was a pang of pride in his chest. She had worked hard. Stayed diligent and now found herself amongst the rank of bloodthirsty killers that the clans deemed worthy of battle. Part of him worries, too, because this meant that she could go off into battle and never return. But the doubt is swept away faster than it had appeared. There was no way anyone would be able to take Midleaf away from him. He simply wouldn't allow it. He would annoy her until her dying breath and only then would she be allowed to pass on.

He would swear his life on it.

Hillstrider cheered happily as apprentices were named. He leaned over to nudge Ravendude as Wildpaw was assigned to them. "Hey, first apprentice! We should do joint training sometime, my dude!" How exciting!!! He was pretty sure Fogwatcher also had an apprentice, and it seemed like Rookfire did now too! Maybe they could all go training together. From his experience, training as a group was helpful for both the apprentices and mentors.

"Hillstrider," they greeted. His friendly nature was growing on them. "I agree. With our combined powers, we'll train the best warriors in Shadowclan."

An exaggeration, but Ravenheart did have high hopes for themself. Leadership, especially to an unruly young cat, was not their strong suit, but this was a chance to change that. Ravenheart, a strong and dependable member of Shadowclan. Ravenheart, a trusted mentor. Ravenheart, not a trembling coward who backed away from a fight.

Wow, a single new warrior. Yellowtwist barely knew this cat existed, even then it was only because they were in his clan. Anyway, coming to these meeting were kind of getting pointless. At the moment, there wasn't a chance his rank wouldn't go up so why come? 'but yellowtwist, thunderclan war,' but actually no. for some reason ratstar wasn't going around killing people. This must've meant something was wrong with thunderclan. YAY!

and the reassessments. why did these have to happen every meeting? lazy ass clan.

Ooo, he was gonna do a battle assessment? That was cool. Apparently cryingelk was still training? Yeah actually that tracks.Oh and more outsiders. Most of them weren't fish. Most. Adderpaw was going to be very evil. you know, a long time ago windclan would've been his least favorite clan, but now that Thunderclan had wronged him 3 times and some idiot (no seriously, like they were stupid) had clawed his shoulder, somehow windclan would be the last clan he would attack. He didn't trust them to keep it that way, though.

Hazelstripe (Aka Hazelpaw but she would never call herself thus) came to the meeting late. Honestly, she hadn’t planned on showing up at all. After her demotion, she kept a low profile, glaring at anyone who would dare speak to her and going so far as to sleep out in the clearing to avoid being caught within the apprentice’s den. Honestly and truthfully, she was in a horrible mood.

Despite this mood, she decided to suck it up in hang out among the fringes of the meeting so she could at the very least hear of any new information. It just so happened that Runt had been called to the forefront after the kits were apprenticed. She didn’t care to cheer their names, it was beneath her. Her perfect legacy was stained with the punishment she had received, and she wouldn’t dare take further actions to compromise herself.

After Dawnstar finished the new apprentice’s ceremonies, the Queen of Mean began the familiar formalities of a warrior ceremony. Runt, her first and only apprentice was becoming a warrior. She… didn’t know how to feel. Her heart was beating, and she couldn’t help but feel butterflies in her stomach even though she wasn’t the one receiving their warrior name. She had to get closer, she had to—

All former hesitation thrown out of the window, Hazelpaw worked her way through the crowd with silent steps. As she made her way through the mass of cats, a loud, all too familiar voice caught her attention. Hillstrider! She knew him! Slowly, she eased her way to his free side, leaning in to gently rub her face against his shoulder. ”Hey there, Hilly ~” She cooed softly. The handsome tom, though annoying as all hell, brought her an odd sense of comfort and made her feel stupid (she was still definitely pissed with him for finding that ThunderClan apprentice but that was neither here nor there).

The moment didn’t last long, however, as she watched with pride as her apprentice was given her warrior name. Midnightpath! A fitting name! Then the cheers erupted and the newly named warrior was quickly approached by Nightshiver. Hazelstripe had been in the process of removing herself from Hilly’s side when she saw this. She stopped. She… she shouldn’t. The wide smile that had plastered itself on her face unbeknownst to her had started to fade as her amber eyes looked on. Runt looked so… happy. Though she was generally selfish, she couldn’t help but want to give her former apprentice some time to enjoy the moment. After all, it was what she owed her after their sometimes tension-filled moments together. The happy feeling she felt was then replaced by a sense of unease, a squeezing sensation within her chest.

She was jealous.

She wanted to be the first one to congratulate Midnightpath. She wanted to be the first to cheer her name. She wanted to the one her apprentice looked to for comfort in this moment. She wanted to be by the new warrior’s side.

They were taking her away from her.

They were taking what was hers.

Ears flattening against her head, she whipped her head away from Runt, whom she had been staring at for some time now. An ugly, imperfect emotion was starting to itch and prickle and scratch its way through her tricolored pelt. She hated it.

It was in this moment her amber orbs locked onto Rookfire. Irritation and anger flashed behind her eyes as she took note of the enforcer. She had taken what was hers as well. Hazelstripe had worked so hard to get Mossfreckle to give her attention, and here comes this RiverClan fish-muncher to steal him away from her. How dare she!? How dare that stupid new cat take what was rightfully hers? She hadn’t minded sharing Mossfreckle with Fogwatcher, and she was getting used to the idea that Hillstrider would have to be there as well, but Rookfire? They weren’t even a ShadowClan cat! They were the enemy!

As she glared at the former RiverClan cat through narrowed eyes, her fur began bristling with barely concealed anger — shaking in her spot next to the orange tom (Hillstrider). She was not happy.

rookfire gave lostspark a brief glance, eyes softening ever so slightly at the sight of his former mentor and one of the two cats he had actually grown to trust over the short time hes been here. he let flashpaws denial of her abilities (really, killing a whole warrior out for blood was quite the accomplishment) disappear into nothingness between them, not really invested enough to care for flashpaws self esteem. besides, the lingering feeling of being watched had settled heavy on his side so his attention was devided, unfocussed. another glance to his new apprentice, something between pride and dread clouding in his stomach and whilst cinderpaw did not seem very convinced of her abilities, rookfire sure as hell was. "im sure you will" he assured her before averting his gaze. finally, he locked eyes with a cat he barely knew by sight, hazelstripe, (or hazelpaw as he was quite sure she was demoted at the moment) and the anger in her eyes, unexplained and with no appearant reason made him jerk his head up, questioning, baiting.
rookfire wouldve liked to see himself as a level headed and rational person, however, it appeared that some time between his first memory in riverclan and now, he had become quite quick to anger. this probably wasnt the best first impression one could give, appearing out of nowhere to praise someone for the murder they commited, exchange barely a handful of words and then disappear, tail briefly moving from side to side in quick jerks and shoulders set tense simply because someone had looked at him wrong. but thats exactly what he did, find his way around the cats between himself and hazel and come to a halt in front of her, almost too close to be casual. remaining white tipped ear twitching as if attempting to scare away flies, not getting close to flattening yet showing his displeasure clearly, he had straightened up to stand at full height and stare down at her. "you've got a problem?" rookfire asked, voice level and overall collected enough to keep most of the irritation inwards. if necesarry, the tense posture he could explain away by reason of the shoulder pain that had been a part of his daily life for the better part of a moon, and otherwise, rookfire had always been one to keep it just neutral enough to fly under the radar, he had no intention of getting into trouble with dawnstar or mistlewhisker after all. additonally, 'keep the emotions you feel most closest to you', his mother had said, remaining in his foggy mind as probably the truest bit of all her teachings.

He changed for his now ex-denmate. “MidnightPath! MidnightPath!” one day that would be him! Or would it? His head went down that stupid rabbit hole again. That he can’t do it. That he’ll never be good enough. Day by day he noticed himself falling off the edge more. Slacking a lot or just getting side-tracked. He felt like instead of improving he got worse and worse and worse until he just…failed forever. Was that the solution? Just failing?

Great StarClan why did he feel not ready for a life in ShadowClan? Bristle’Thorn did her best to build him up right and his confidence but that all seemed to be wiping away as 12 moons neared. He didn’t wasn’t to be a late warrior. His ears were pinned back as he stared at his paws. Why was it so tough? At first it seemed all fun and games, then turned into hard work but…still reasonable. It felt more noble then. Now it’s stress. Just stress that was building up inside of him.

FOXFURY

The black she-cat beamed at Dawnstar's mention of her. Didn't even need battle training, look at that. She tossed a wink in the leader's direction before turning to search the crowd for her new mentor. Owlthroat. What a peculiar name. She understood her own name, the fury of a fox and whatnot. But what did owls have to do with his throat? Did he make super convincing owl noises? Foxfury supposed she'd find out.

The tom was making his way towards her, a scowl etched into his maw. Ooh, he looked fun. "Hello, teach," she smirked, thumping the ground beside her with her tail in an invitation to sit. Whether or not he did was a 50/50 chance but she didn't care much either way. It wasn't like she'd be at his eye level anyways.

"Gonna show me the borders and whatnot, eh? And show me how to hunt them toads you lot like so much?" She'd noticed several of the amphibians in the prey pile, which was interesting. She'd caught a couple before, but only when she was desperate. And it certainly hadn't been graceful.

Her head swerved around when... her name was called? What- who- ?? Then she located Mintpaw in the crowd and grinned. "YEAH? MAYBE, I KINDA NEED TO HEAR THE QUESTION FIRST." The cheers and raised voices after the ceremony was dying down, so as not to disrupt the meeting, Pigeonpaw hopped up and bounced a few fox-lengths towards Mintpaw to be able to talk normally. "Hihi when you're mature? I'm not mature, so we can be friends now!!"

Dawnstar narrowed her eyes and lifted the corner of her muzzle to expose a fang when Foxfury winked at her. Infuriating mousebrain. She'd never understand her tastes in cats; well, except for Mistlewhisker who was the only one who didn't fall into the vexing category so she was an oddity herself.

Anyway, Dawnstar watches as the rest of the apprentices and mentors meet up. She wasn't hearing any complaints and didn't seem to have forgotten anyone. So it was about time she wrapped this meeting up.

"We've lost one of the fiercest Enforcers. Silverlark passed away from an illness and has since been buried. As far as we know it's not contagious, but a reminder to those who may not feel well; visit Mossfreckle and Grousepaw. We have medicine cats for a reason." Dawnstar hadn't known that Silverlark had been sick in the first place. It irked her endlessly to hear that he had just passed away.

The tom was a great warrior and strong Enforcer, his loss would be mourned even by her. Finding a cat who could rip through predators like him was rare. His loyalty to ShadowClan had been unwavering. He had been among her greater elites like Shadowfur, Mirehound, and Cougarivy. He'd be sorely missed.

"I want to remind those of you who find tresspassers in our territory that before you attack or kill them you must warn them to leave. With the trouble from the death of the WindClan warrior and the attack on the ThunderClan apprentices, until RiverClan returns I can only assume both ThunderClan and WindClan will have their eyes on us." She growled with her ears flattened against her skull.

"Twilightstar's already proven that she'll no longer tolerate reckless attack on her Clan and Bumblebrat is Bumblebrat. As I utterly hate having to cover the clan's ass for problems idiots start, from now on if you cause trouble for the clan you'll be the one to take responsibility for it." Dawnstar did not like being in the wrong and hated it more when ShadowClan looked bad.

"From now on whether you kill or attack them, you will bring said clan trespasser back to their border and wait for a patrol to come and then explain why whatever happened did happen and report back to me. Hazelpaw's folly," Dawnstar growled glaring at the demoted she-cat who seemed to be upset about something with Rookfire. "got her tricked by a trespassing ThunderClan apprentice and has ThunderClan thinking ShadowClan brutalizes apprentices like RiverClan. All because she decided to leave said apprentice in our territory instead of ensuring he got over the border." Even though Hazelpaw had seemed rather regretful about it, further humbling the she-cat wouldn't hurt. Once Dawnstar was certain that a cat had learned a lesson she didn't normally continue to bring up their past failures so long as they weren't repeated.

As she had considered Hazelpaw one of the occasional warriors with common sense, it worried her about other mistakes intelligent cats could make. "If you are defending our borders as true warriors should; take responsibility for it, and for the love of StarClan report it to me. That is all dismissed." She finished with a dismissive lash of her tail.
