as questions ceased, rookfire offered a few more moments to silence for the information to settle before deciding he would move on instead of giving mossfreckle his turn, this wasnt what was supposed to be happening, they had planned to do this uhm how do you call it...doesnt matter, they wanted to take turns introducing herbs but outside forces are forcing rookfire to make the decision to continue by himself for now which no one will mention please.
"alright lets move on, moss and borage to represent green and blue now. first up moss, im very sure the majority of you guys already know moss" the medicine cat apprentice began, holding up a piece of more or less moist moss (man he shouldve dipped it into the stream before this) and feeling more than a bit ridiculous doing so. there was a reason they were addressing moss again though so he pushed down that feeling in order to continue explaining. "you've all seen moss used in nests before n kits play with mossballs but its actually a very important aspect of first aid. cobwebs are too rare, flimsy and sticky so we use moss to press it to wounds, sort of like this-" rookfire pressed the piece of moss to mossfreckles shoulder (wow that sentence was bad, who had decided to name a medicine cat mosskit at birth. like they knew what he'd become..), one paw resting on the moss whereas the other held him in place before he let off again. "- to stop wounds, 'specially big ones, from bleedin' heavily. once its slowin' down a bit ya can apply a herb to prevent infection and stave off the bleeding even more or just go straight ta' cobwebs." first part done, next the second aspect of moss' medical use.
"secondly, moss soaks up liquids which means ya can do a lot of things with it. for one, its a way ta' get water to cats that are sick or injured n cant move at the moment. but ya can also use it ta' catch the liquid that comes with chewin' up herbs like celandine and make using those easier. with the celandine example it'd make it easy ta' drip it into the injured eye" tail flicking back and forth in thought, he stayed quiet for a moment longer, going over the things he knew in his mind once more in order to figure out if he had missed anything. the answer to that was no, but he did feel the urge to go back and explain some of the previously mentioned things more in depth.

moving on after the moss related questions that rooks roleplayer hopes will actually be asked, borage would be the next plant the medicine cat apprentice would speak about. now that he was looking at the borage he wasnt so sure about it being blue anymore, looking very much purple in the brighter light outside of the medicine den..but he was nothing if not ready to improvise so he didnt worry but about that. he took a moment to go over the information in his mind again.
"forgot ta' mention it but moss grows pretty much everywhere moist, 'specially in places like evergreen grotto n borage-" he help up the plant, shining purple and blue in the light dappling the clearing "- is the same in that aspect, it grows everywhere moist" placing the plant back down between himself and the crowd the medicine cat apprentice briefly cleared his throat.
"as ya can see, its blue or purple flowers, which is why we are introducin' it as 'blue' in this lesson, n the leaves are what we need so youre theoretically free ta keep the petals n stuff." a shrug, he picked off one of the petals in mild distraction before moving on.
"the leaves are chewed n eaten and can be used for a lot of things includin' milk production for queens with lots'a kits or issues for other reasons, can bring down fevers n sooth stomach aches" aaand that was pretty much it, for some reason he had expected to have more to say about borage than moss but it looked like he had been very wrong about that. hmm what else what else. distinguished smell, bitter taste, yeah who cared, they'd figure that part out if they ever decided to eat one of the leaves, not really his place to warn about.
