Silentpaw finally let out a relieved breath. He could have sworn he would've fallen if they went any higher. He gave Newtbelly a grateful blink, looking down at the ground.
Oh.
How was he going to climb down?
StarClan, he was going to fall and break something.
The tabby-tortoiseshell tom slowly but surely descended from the branch he was on, and made his way to the branch he had first been intructed to climb to. Alright. Progress. It had been excruciatingly slow, but progress. He looked up to Newtbelly, before turning away and jumping dow-
Or at least, thinking of jumping down.
He couldn't.
He looked back at Newtbelly again, panic flashing in his eyes for a brief moment.
Looked like Silentpaw wanted to head back down, considering the way he gazed at the floor. After some hesitation, he headed to the lower branch, then looked back up at Newtbelly - then back to the ground - and up to Newtbelly again - was that? Panic in his eyes? It had to be. The apprentice certainly wasn't budging. Not one bit. He supposed he should lead by example - jump down and prove there's nothing to be scared of. Taking a breath in, he pounced down to the forest floor, trying his hardest not to shake the trees. Now what?? Some kind of words of encouragement? This certainly wasn't his forte.
"Not far now! If you topple at all, I can break your fall," he demonstrated, weaving under the branch - before an idea crossing his mind - "Or if it's easier, you can climb on my back? Then I can lower you down?" It seemed a strange idea, but what else was there to do? Despite his usually uncaring nature, he hated to see the paw so stressed. Eesh, would Owlthroat ever do something like that? Well, did he have to do everything the way Owlthroat would? He wasn't too sure. But he knew how he wanted to act right now. Any kind of analysis was for later.

He lowered his body, preparing to jump. He was a cat, for stars sake. He was made to jump to and from high places. This shouldn't bothering him. He shook his head at Newtbelly, a silent "no need".
He had to get over his fear. If he'd even call it that. Why'd he even agree to this? He'd jumped plenty of times before. This should be easy. He shook his head to clear his mind, shuffling his paws before shutting his eyes and pushing off the branch.
Was he dead?
He opened his eyes, and he was... On the ground! Finally! He did it! Without breaking a bone! Or dying! He let out a shaky breath of relief, and looked to Newtbelly. He didn't look... Quite as alright as he'd expected. If anything, he could sense a twinge of worry. Great. This training session went awesomely.
But he couldn't help but feel guilty for "worrying" his mentor. This wasn't something he should've been worrying about.
"... Sorry." He murmured, realising with a start that it was the first time he'd ever said anything to his mentor.

No need for that - he was kind of thankful for that. The apprentice jumped down, pretty smoothly, actually. Sorry? That was the first he'd heard him talk - he'd actually assumed he couldn't at this point, and just kind of forgotten about it as a thing.
Beside the point - there was nothing to be sorry for, but... How was he meant to respond to that? "It's alright. You did just fine." He mustered a slightly awkward, but encouraging, smile. "Let's head back."

Ok. So no huge reaction. Perfect. Silentpaw nodded, padding towards Newtbelly. That annoying black-furred cat's words rung in his mind again. Seriously, how did Newtbelly tolerate him?? But then again, the calico tom did not seem like quite the type to enjoy long conversations, so it was probably normal for him. And did he smile? Silentpaw doesn't think he'd seen Newtbelly smile at all. Or maybe he missed it. Though, he highly doubted it. He was... Pretty confident in his ability to remember details.. But that was not something to be concerned about.

Newtbelly emerged from the warrior's den, early as usual. With the clan on lockdown, he figured they could do more battle training - camp was big enough. White paws slunk into the apprentice den, prodding Silentpaw, "mornin," he murmured, before heading out the exit.

Silentpaw was again woken up by a gentle prod. He opened his eyes and yawned, getting up on all fours to stretch. With the lockdown now in place, there wasn't much they could do. At least, that's what he'd expected. He gave his pelt one final shake and padded out of the den, towards where Newtbelly was. He gave his mentor a single nod of acknowledgement, and sat down.

Silentpaw was out quickly, as per usual. He wondered how he'd ended up with such a well behaved apprentice, but he shrugged it off. "Right, since we've got a lockdown on, I reckoned we might as well do some battle training here in camp." He mewled, "Let's build on what you know - try attacking me, and I'll counter. Doesn't have to be anything big." It seemed a little full on for first thing in the morning, they'd normally walk through the territory, giving them time to wake up - but what could be done?

Silentpaw moved pretty quickly - confidently too. He hadn't expected it actually. He dodged out the way, but not before Silentpaw's paw grazed his side - "nice one! With your claws, that would've hit." He called as he landed on his paws. "Go again - try something else maybe?" He could teach Silentpaw some new techniques, but it would be interesting to see what he'd come up with on his own.

Oh. He hadn't exactly expected for Newtbelly to move out of the way, but then again, he is a fully trained warrior. Warriors need to be prepared for anything. The apprentice landed on the spot where Newtbelly had previously been, and swerved to look at the tom. He nodded, looking down at his paws for a moment. Hmm... Something else. He hadn't been taught much, but, sure, he could do something. Probably.
He gave the ground a few taps with a paw before jumping at Newtbelly, teeth instead of claws aimed for his shoulder. His paws aimed for his chest and other shoulder, attempting to pin the warrior down. He... Would have gone for the throat, but he did not figure it would be very necessary. He wasn't fighting for his life, after all.
