Goldenstorm dashed into the nursery and looked around for his mate. "Creamfrost!" he called. It was then that he noticed the yellowish she-cat curled up in one of the nests with a small body tucked in the curve of her belly. "Creamfrost, there you are. I almost jumped out of my fur when Gingerstep told me you were having your kits!" The large tom trotted forward and sat at her side, then with a glance at her kit he added, "From what I see here, I guess it was true! Is he the only one?"

The small scrap of fur was quite big for a newborn kit. Big and strong, that's for sure; just like his father. He had long golden-brown fur that grew extra long around his neck. That fur looked like a mane. In fact, the little kit looked like a lion.

Creamfrost looked up, her gaze catching on her mate; Goldenstorm. The small molly nodded. "He is." she answered, her heart sinking a bit. He wasn't mad that there was only one, was he? Creamfrost thought that was silly, but mostly she was scared. The little tom was so special to her, she didn't want Goldenstorm to be made because he was the only one. "What should we name him?" she asked, quickly changing the subject.

The tom crawled forward, pulling himself with strong front paws. He let out a loud mewl, almost like a lion's roar, before suckling at his mother's belly for the sweet milk she had.

Goldenstorm smiled at his mate, then his kit. What a perfect little tom, he thought. "Hmm... Well, with all that fluff around his neck, he looks like a little lion." The tom swept his bushy tail around the tiny bundle. "What do you think of Lionkit?"

Creamfrost smiled in relief. He did care about his kit. "Lionkit, Lionkit.." she said, testing out the name. Having heard his little meow like lion, she agreed. The name suited him. "Lionkit it is." she stated, looking down at the little tom. "My little Lionkit." she murmured, rasping her tongue over the suckling kit.

The small kit started purring at the affection from both parents. Once he finished suckling, he drifted off to sleep at the curve of his mother's belly.

Goldenstorm's heart warmed as Lionkit's name was found and he realized he now had a kit to call his own. He could remember how his mother had often teased him when he was an apprentice, saying that she was never getting any grandkits from him -- he had been very shy and submissive back then, after all. He wondered if she was watching him now, and if she could see his beautiful mate and wonderful son. Goldenstorm missed his mother, but he took comfort in imagining how proud she was of him now.

"Well," he mewed softly to Creamfrost as Lionkit began to drift off, "I'd better go hunting -- you'll need to eat and keep your strength up if you're going to be providing for this little fuzzball day and night." Goldenstorm touched his nose to the she-cat's ear. "See you soon." With that, he stalked out of the nursery, feeling like a kit himself.
