Whisperingpaw snorted but followed his mentor. Once Beastpaw's racket was no longer in earshot, Whisperingpaw felt better. He crouched down once his mentor told him to, copying it almost exactly. One of his rear legs were just a bit to far out.
The small, speckled molly smiled at her apprentice, and then nearly nodded, pausing only when she realized one of his backlegs was misplaced in position. "Just a... a little more in." She whispered softly, and once he'd fixed his stance, she nodded.
"Y..yeah, that's it. Now, can you tell me if you... smell anything?"

Whisperingpaw shifted his leg in further once his mentor pointed out his error. This position felt weird, but rhe young tom quickly got used to it. Whisperingpaw flicked his ears at the question, opening his mouth the taste the air. "I smell a mouse up ahead.."

Berryfrost nodded at her apprentice, smiling faintly. This wasn't so hard, she supposed. Blinking once at the young tom, the speckled molly shifted on her paws. "I... so basically, most of hunting is just instinct. I can't teach you it -- it comes on i-it's own. I- I, um, want you to stalk that mouse you smell. Get as close as p-possible without alerting it and then just... just, um, pounce? It's n-natural, you should be able to do it." Her words were barely a whisper -- she didn't want to scare the prey away.
Beastpaw wandered off to go and hunt grasshoppers. Fallownose would be so happy, they were super crunchy and delicious! SHe bounced off in search of her quarry.

Beastpaw ran out of the sparse udergrowth cover that sheltered the underaged 'paw from the raptors of the skies. She was on open ground now, chasing a wayward grasshopper through the fields. The kit paused. Was that... a bird shadow? She looked up to see the hawk circling above. A new birdy-friend! "HIYA!" she roared squeakily, squinting up at the descending figure. Oh, it was riight above her now... Wait. TALONS! She vaguely remembered somecat warning her away from taloned birds. They ate kitties. Beastpaw started running at full tilt, screaming for her life. Sharp claws grazed her flanks and she tumbled from the painful touch, shrieking. The hawk dove once more at its quarry, talons outstrectched. The underaged apprentice rolled onto her back, needle-like claws unsheathing to meet the predator's larger ones. A fight she was doomed to lose if alone. Where... Where's Tigerhaze? she thought, moments before feathers enveloped the world around her, shrouding the child from view. Shrieks ripped the sky as Beastpaw struck out madly at her assailant.

Beastpaw latched onto the predator's wing with tooth and claw, grateful for her mentor swooping in. She could feel the bird frantically flap its wings to dislodge her (and maybe Tigermist?), trying to take off. There was a snapping sound as a bone in the wing the 'paw clung onto broke, sending her tumbling to the ground, winded.

*Tigermist continued to fight the bird until it dropped dead*
