Daffodilpaw’s jaw dropped at what Elkjump just told her. “They don’t…care about speed?!” She couldn’t comprehend it. She shook her head with disbelief. “What fuzballs…” She mumbled. “They must have some of that undergrowth in their brains or something! Running fast is the best feeling!” But as she spoke, she realized that this was exactly why the clans were separated. Each living in their own territory that suited them best. I could never live like a ThunderClanner… She looked back at her mentor expectantly. “What’s next? Should we hunt?” She remembered how their run made them hungry. And the sooner they went further into their open territory and away from this awful territory the better.

Daffodilpaw nodded, and started trotting after her mentor. But there was a familiar itch in her legs and without warning she hared off in the direction Elkjump had been heading, playfully brushing her tail under his nose as she passed him, laughing in delight. She had no idea if she was going the correct way or not, but she assumed Elkjump with his longer legs would soon overtake her resume the lead. “C’mon, Elkjump!” She called over her shoulder in a playful taunt. “Lots of ground to cover, so little time! You better keep up!”

“You're on!" Elkjump declared, quickly running past Daffodilpaw. “NOW YOU BETTER KEEP UP!" he jokingly declared.

Daffodilpaw let out a shout when Elkjump surpassed her, letting out of a powerful yowl in answer to his challenge, like a kit pretending to be a badger. “Beware the fastest cat in all of WindClan!” She yowled, unsheathing her claws to give herself more traction as she propelled herself across the landscape. Physically pushing herself to at least keep up with Elkjump, his tail streaming out about a tail-length in front of her.

Pushing paws towards the flat moor, Elkjump got out of sight.

Daffodilpaw squinted as her mentor slipped out of sight on the open moorland. She slowed down, uncertainty prickling in her pelt. Where did he go? Where should I go? She wasn’t familiar enough with the territory to know which direction was the right one. Instinctively, she opened her mouth to taste the air, moving to follow Elkjump’s scent in the air. It was a bit of challenge, since he had been moving so quickly, but Daffodilpaw could still detect it in the grass enough to follow the trail at a slow run.
