She padded out into the clearing from the warriors den, shaking some leaves from her fluffy pelt and looked around. Ah! Her eyes flashed with familiarity as she spotted MeadowFall. She had just spoke to the queen the previous day when she was in the nursery watching WillowKit. Goodness she wished she could always be with the kit! She’d check on her soon, for now she’d try to forge a bond with a fellow clan mate!

He happily bound up to the queen, her typical grin on her face and her eyes shone bright. “Hey MeadowFall! How are you?” she asked politely, glad to be interacting with the cat again.

Meadowfall had been relaxing in the clearing, watching the cats go about their daily lives- and resting from her own responsibilities, if but for a moment. She was just about to get up and continue on with her day when she heard a familiar voice call out for her.

"Orangeflower! It's lovely to see you again. I'm doing well, thank you for asking." The queen stood to greet her. Her tone was quiet and even, typical of her, but she still held warmness as she looked upon her fellow she-cat. "And how are you doing? Any plans for today?"

Wolfhive was crossing the clearing when he noticed a few oddities.

ONE, Alpinepaw looked like she'd just seen a ghost. Wolfhive had never seen her so pale.

TWO, her paws were caked in dirt. This alone might've not been notable, if not for the suspicious looking upturned soil nearby. Wolfhive paused.

"Everything alright?"

Alpinepaw stared at the dead sparrow and answered after a minute or so, "I don't know, Wolfhive." She pawed at the fledgling and it felt damp.

She was glad that the she-cat was doing well, her smile getting even brighter. “I’m alright. Just busy. I may go hunting with a friend today! Well—after I spend time with WillowKit. She’s so sweet!” She spoke happily about the kit she took up. Goodness was the kit some work but she was an angel!

The warrior sat near MeadowFall for the sake of a conversation and politeness, at least so it didn’t appear she was just making a quick small chatter with the cat.

Flameheart looked at Wolfhive. "yeah Alpinepaw over here just caught a bird." she mewed @BEAR. @Highsnow of Matterhorn

They had different answers, another weird little thing that didn't assure Wolfhive in the slightest. "I can see that, Flameheart." A sparrow in camp was also kind of strange - it made him wonder if the little training area he'd built some moons ago was actually working. He meant to check it, just had been so busy he forgot it existed. "Doesn't explain the dirt, though. She go digging for it?"

As for Alpinepaw.. he was more concerned. Physically, she seemed fine outside the dirt - was it about killing the bird? "Well, how do you feel?"

"Willowkit is very lucky to have someone as attentive as you, you know. I absolutely adore that you're so caring towards her." It's honestly what she expected of everyone in the clan, to some degree. As idealistic as it seemed of her- She knew not everyone had a nurturing streak. "Hunting! That sounds wonderful." It just so happened to be one of her favorite activities. "I need to get my fair share of that in before I'm no longer able to perform my duties." Her tail curved around around her paws.

Alpinepaw put her paw on the dead bird to secure it, looked up and spoke, "I feel...strange." One of her ears flicked. She didn't know what to feel about her first kill.

A hole... well, that explained some things. Wolfhive furrowed his brow. "Let's not dig up the camp please, we already lost one due to a lack of structural integrity and I'd rather keep this ground stable." Maybe Flameheart didn't remember the sinkhole, but he remembered enough to know he didn't want a repeat.

"Animals die so we can live; and one day, we will feed the animals that our prey feeds upon, and so forth." As unpleasant as it was, bodies rotted for a reason - flies, worms, they took what they needed. "Don't think too much on it."
