|| Frostkit is in his halloween costume ( so give him treats or risk a trick ) ^^ this doesn’t apply to in rp :3 ||
Oh lame. This hunt ended before anything actually interesting happened. Well, kind of, working with Jaggedkit rather than against him was nice in a way. Though Frostkit allowed Cedarkit and Ashkit to run without chase, he was still seething as he glared after Ashkit in particular. How annoying. He flicked an ear as a different commotion took his focus. Oh? What a weird looking cat? Bald. Bald paws and tail. PREY! Bite tail with no fur protection! He opened his jaw a smidge just at the thought of biting down on it! But then everything was moving so quickly and so many people were on his prey before he could even run over.
Jaggedkit was running back to the nursery now. Frostkit stared at the scene for one more moment before following his brother into the nursery with the rest of their litter. Dad was fighting the creature… Maybe dad will bring it to the nursery for Frostkit to eat! Nom nom nom. He purred at the thought, maybe it would taste better than other preys which were really icky no good.
Okay, so never leave Lightingstorm alone in charge of the camp ever again. The slender WindClan leader arrived at the threshold of the camp, ready to comment about the trench being built just outside the camp and the scent of smoke in the air, but found herself completely lost. What the hell was in her camp?!!!
Twilightstar probably knew the name, but she was pretty certain she'd never seen whatever it was Snowybreeze, Dustbunny, Dreamlight, and Owlpaw were fighting. She thought it was a rat at first from the back, but she could barely see it beneath Snowybreeze's squishing it and Owlpaw attempting to do the same.
Leopardsong, Lightningstorm, and some of the other queens were on top of herd kits to the nursery, and Leopardpaw and Maggotpaw looked to be on elder duty. She didn't see any cat from the patrols around so she assumed she made it back before them. Twilightstar's reaction was more on the lackluster side purely because the she-cat was exhausted, unknowingly escaped near death, and was so used to this insanity that not much phased her these days.
"Hey, I think it's dead," Twilightstar uttered calmly as she walked a wide circle around the three warriors, ordering them to step down wordlessly. There was a disgusting reek coming from the animal.
"Owlpaw, come here." She called to the apprentice, uncertain if Leechscar had taught her how to fight. The she-cat would usher the apprentice to get behind her as soon as heeded her order. Twilightstar's eye danced towards the nursery before returning to the threat before her. The kits were probably fine with Leopardsong. Still, she kept herself between the rest of the camp and the critter, leaving the exit wide open.
Dreamlight and Dustbunny who had been trying to gnaw off the creature's front legs, hadn't bothered to stop even after Snowybreeze tackled the thing. Twilightstar's words had the two she-cats relaxing their bite. Dreamlight tried not to gag at the putrid smell coming off the animal. Dustbunny took a few paw steps back with bristle fur remaining on guard, her eyes darted nervously between Snowybreeze and the opossum.
[As Opossums aren't all that aggressive, and I don't see one stick around to fight a bunch of ticked-off kitties let alone Snowyfreakingbreeze, I'm banking on it playing dead and running]
@Blaaze [Owlpaw] @Alchemist Kitsune [Snowybreeze/Lightningstorm mention]
ATTA- Oh, it was dead. Owlpaw stepped back from the body, seemingly reluctantly (She really really wanted to be a cool warrior!), the apprentice turned to face Twilightstar. Wait! She was back! Immediately Aubs perked up, bounding over to her leader with a newfound happiness. "Bigcat!" She chirped gleefully, "Is everythin' n' th' terr'tory okay? Have y' seen Bree- Deadmoon? Out there?" There was a pinch of hope in her tone, eyes bright. Surely Breezy was okay either way! Owlpaw was too embarrassed to ask about Stormy (Couldn't have anyone think she was crushing on him!) so she decided she would see if he was okay if he got back. Oh! What about Jumper? "N' Leechscar?"

Snowybreeze had only one objective in mind when he had rushed the horrid creature that had waltzed into camp. To ram into it with such force it would hopefully be scared and leave. Or to distract it enough for the other cats to be able to finish the job. In truth, he preferred the first option. If only because he assumed that if there had been no fire, this opossum would have never dared enter their territory so wantonly to begin with.
So when the leader arrived and announced that the creature was dead? Well... that certainly gave him pause because... golly... he hadn't aimed to kill it! Just make it go away. Still... it posed a threat to the clan, so he assumed it couldn't be helped... nor could that stars forsaken smell now wafting from it. Ew. That... that couldn't be right? He'd smelled crowfood that hadn't reeked this badly before.
"Does smell like arse, dunnit? Real shame it's not safe to go out yet, otherwise I would drag this bloody thing out myself. I'll go look for some flowers and see if I can at least mask the stench," Lightningstorm muttered from besides her apprentice shortly after he spoke, a curious glint in her eyes despite how she wrinkled her nose in disgust.
Snowybreeze found himself nodding enthusiastically to both hers and Rabbitpaw's remarks, his eyes watering the longer he stood besides this thing. It was honestly quite impressive. Nothing had broken through his nose after the smoke had taken over it, the scent of burning too powerful for anything else to shine though, getting muddled in the mix of ash and flame from the territory. And yet this thing had somehow managed to become an even bigger nuisance to his nose just seconds after death. Thank goodness it seemed to at least be getting up now and leaving by itself now that no one was paying it anymore attention... No. Wait... What?!
"EEEP!"
The usually silent warrior's squeal of terror evidently scaring the ragged looking creature even further, without another look back it ran away, leaving a trail of dust behind it. It would appear the flames seemed a lesser foe after the beating it just took. But... but it was dead, wasn't it?! Why was it still alive?! Did it have lives like Twilightstar did?! Goodness, his heart was going about a million fox lengths a stride. Gratefully, there was someone else trying to gain his attention and have him forget this whole ordeal...
"Kick it's ass, poppa!"
Beg pardon. Did he say gratefully? Oh dear... as much as he appreciated Cardinalkit's faith in him and his fighting prowess, perhaps not making fun of her would be predator and further antagonize it would be the best thing to do? At this point, he could really only hope that whoever gained her as their apprentice could teach her to temper that passion and energy for the good of WindClan. He was sure she would be a fantastic warrior if so. And if not... well... StarClan help him, he suppose. Potentially by having the ground swallow him whole right about now...
"Yes, Leopardpaw. You look very ferocious. Nobody's ever going to mess with you." Maggotpaw confirms. All things considered, she's very likely to be the most imposing one here in the company of two elders and a scrawny little Maggotpaw. Objectively Maggotpaw knows this and almost wants to have her switch spots with it to be the one pointed out at the catmouse, but there's this funny little squeeze in its chest that chokes the suggestion back down the moment it opens its mouth. It doesn't want Leopardpaw pointed at the catmouse. It doesn't want the catmouse to so much as look at her or anybody here. It just wishes someone would stomp the thing to death already.
So instead of any of that, Maggotpaw turns its attention to Duckthroat, who is telling Maggotpaw what that ugly thing's real name is. Possum. So that's what those are. It'd heard the word before—hadn't Windclan had a warrior with that name at some point?—but it had never had anything to pin the word to until now. "Possum," Maggotpaw repeats, glancing back over at the freaky lookin' thing. "Okay well. They are over there thrashing that possum bad. I think it's killed--oh," no, wait. The creature is doing weird things. Hadn't it just been dead...? Maggotpaw frowns. "I mean actually, it's going now. So we can stay out here. You all did a very good job. You were all very scary. Say thank you to Leopardpaw for being the scariest though." And it positively glows with pride to hear that Duckthroat, the smartest cat who ever lived by the way, liked the 'Get Big And Go Grrr' plan.
"Twilightstar is back." Maggotpaw observes, still on tiptoes, still bristling. It isn't aware of this. "A lot of other cats aren't yet. Whisperinghive isn't." The lack of Whisperinghive around here is particularly grating. He'd better not be out there getting eaten up by a fire or Maggotpaw will lose it. It wonders if it could go and ask Twilightstar to tell him to come back already. He's a bad listener though. He probably wouldn't come back. Maggotpaw huffs to itself.
Fleetpaw continued to work quietly and as quickly as possible as the fires grew closer. He lifted his head only when he heard Rabbitpaw's voice, then worked more determinedly. Clearly the others were handling something important, so it seemed it would be just him and Rabbitpaw finishing the trench. Finally, the two connected the trenches. Though Fleetpaw still wasn't sure if what they did was okay. He pushed his skinny body to stand on his hindlegs and lift his head over the edge of the trench. "U-Um...Dustbunny!" He called, trying to get her attention.
Landing back on his forepaws he caught his breath before lifting himself up a second time. "I-Is this okay? I-I've never...never made a trench before so..." His voice didn't carry as much as he hoped. He looked at Rabbitpaw with uncertainty in his eyes, silently asking him if he thought the trench was going to get the job done.
Cardinalkit was both in awe and confused at what was going on in the clearing. It was clear the fire was a threat. Her father never attacked anything or anyone, after all. Yet here he was, barreling into the rat cat. Looking positively terrifying. There were also a lot of big cats trying to corral the kits back into the nursery. Including the medicine cat. So why were there barely any warriors taking care of the rat cat alongside Snowydad and the few others that were fighting... including that lesser apprentice that had less brains than a mouse?
Tiny ears perking up as she heard another cat stumbling her way, the fluffy calico turned around, pale green eyes opened wide as she hoped to find Ber walking back to her and Seeds. What met her gaze, however, was no one other than Jaggs. Finally back from being an idiot it seemed, and asking rock headed questions. The young she-cat rolled her eyes, tail twitching before turning her gaze back towards the creature. Only half aware that Frostkit had joined in as well, meaning Ber had either found the rock heads and sent them here for their own safety or she was still out there looking for them.
Swallowing down in fear, the potential of her sister being in danger more discomforting than she allowed herself to show, she scoffed. "Um, that's an intruder, duh? I heard the big cats talk about the fire that was starting lose and they like, gone out to fight it. Maybe that's the fire? Looks ugly like Firenotmom. Bet that's why she was called that to begin with," the young kit mewed viciously, a devilish sneer tugging at her whiskers before she turned her attention back towards her brothers.
"Never mind that. Where's Ber? She go out to look for you two rock heads. She send you back here?" Cardinalkit asked, voice commanding as her glare turned serious for once, her sister's well being not something she was willing to kid around with, even with her other littermates.
Okay, so it wasn't dead. The fur along the leader's neck bristled in alarm when the animal jolted to its paws suddenly and bolted out of camp after Snowybreeze released it. She could have sworn it was dead though? Twilightstar supposed it could have been playing dead, maybe. It was a tactic cats use in battle. They did not play dead exactly, but something similar. Regardless it might be a good idea to bug one of the elders about it, later.
Owlpaw's voice caught her attention and the she-cat looked at the orange feline. "I believe everything in the territory is alright, I didn't stop to check on Deadmoon's or Leechscar's patrols when I was out. But I'm sure they're both alright and will be back soon." She reassured, leaning in to poke the molly's cheek with her nose.
Her single green eye roamed the camp, noting that everything else seemed to be in order. "Lightningstorm, this is the last time I'm leaving you in charge of the camp alone." Her tone was sarcastic as her eye landed on the small medicine cat with her apprentice. "Aside from our unwanted visitor, no other problems?" She asked more seriously. "Kits, you can come out, but don't get under any cat's paws, or it's right back to the nursery," Twilightstar called to the curious eyes peeking out of the nursery.
While Twilightstar was getting a report from Lightningstorm, Dustbunny relaxed and turned her attention to Fleetpaw as he came up and asked about the trench. She almost forgot they were building that with all the excitement. Dustbunny padded over to inspect Fleetpaw's work. She was impressed, Fleetpaw had done pretty well for a cat with no tunneling experience.
"Not bad, good job, Fleetpaw. Sorry, we had to leave you to finish it alone." Dustbunny added with an apologetic dip of her head. It seemed like she was doing that a lot today. "If you ever wanna learn more about tunneling, I wouldn't mind taking you for a lesson or two. You're not half bad at digging." She praised. It was not as neat as an experienced tunneler, but she's seen worse.
"You can go rest if you'd like." The brown she-cat lifted her head and scented the air. She could still detect smoke in the air, but she saw no flames or any sight of fire so she could only hope the other patrols had finished what they started.
@Alchemist Kitsune [Lightningstorm] @Luna16 [Fleetpaw] @Blaaze [Owlpaw]
Fleetpaw was…frankly stunned by the praise. “R-Really? Thank you!” He stuttered, dipping his head in gratitude and respect. He was about to tell her that it was no problem and he was happy to have been able to help, but then she said something even more surprising and exciting! “M-Me?” Fleetpaw’s eyes widened in surprise, and he nodded vigorously. “Yes! Yes I would love to!” A sound he didn’t make often came out of his throat, a purr? Was he purring? … Yes he was purring!
Fleetpaw couldn’t remember feeling this excited. Perhaps because he finally found something that he felt like he could…possibly be a little good at. I’m…not half bad at digging… Yes, tunneling training. The thought made him feel like he was glowing. It may seem like something silly to other cats, but there was something peaceful about the action of digging. It allowed him to clear his mind in a way he was never able to do otherwise, and he didn’t at all mind the dirt and filth on his paws. He was…excited! He blinked and dipped his head when Dustbunny said he could take a break, he almost missed that she had said that in his excitement. But…he hesitated, shuffling his paws anxiously. “A-Are you sure there isn’t…anything else I can do?” He asked, his eyes darting between his paws nervously.
Truthfully, he had too much pent up energy now to rest. And besides… “I-I’m more…n-nervous when I’m not doing something.” He admitted, ducking his head shamefully. Surely a true warrior would be able to relax if he had the opportunity. But in a time of crisis like this, his anxious energy combined with his excitement at the prospect of tunneling training just…well he wouldn’t feel comfortable trying to rest right now. And also… “I-I want to help my clan!” He meowed determinedly, looking up and looking Dustbunny in the eyes. And it was true. He owed WindClan everything, he could never relax as long as he could sense the fires closing in. Even with the trench there to protect them, if there was something to be done then he wanted to do it. He only then realized that he could be interpreted as being rude or stepping out of line, so he lowered his gaze and head again. “I-If that’s okay of course…” He didn’t want to presumptuous that he would be useful, or act ungrateful to Dustbunny’s kindness. What if she doesn’t want to train me anymore?! The scarred apprentice swallowed back his fear, looking at Dustbunny with hopeful eyes.
Since Lightningstorm had burst out of her den with an ominous warning to the camp, things had exploded. Thistlepaw found it too hot to sleep, the sun blaring down on the open clearing, beating on the pelts of those exposed like relentless drums. Her sleek gray form had been crouched in whatever shade the clearing offered, her stiff tail wrapped loosely around her side when the tortoiseshell and white she-cat balanced on a root that helped form the entrance to her den.
"Twilightstar! Crowtooth! We have an emergency! We have to move! Now!"
Thistlepaw got to all fours, her tail sticking straight up and immediately glanced around, her green eyes looking for signs of trouble and her ears perked, ready for sounds of danger. To say she wasn't panicked would have been a lie. When it was revealed to be not just one fire, but several... after the last which was so terrible, she hadn't even been alive to experience it, she couldn't understand how some cats were so nonchalant about it! Fire was destructive. Surely even her denmates and the Kits had heard about what it had done to their camp, and the lives that they'd lost...
Twilightstar organized a search and suppress patrol, while others in camp were asked to help build a trench around the perimeter of the clearing. Thistlepaw tried to stay calm, though the constant impetuous mewling of the Kits made it hard to even have thoughts. There were so many of them she wondered how they ever crammed inside the Nursery! She didn't remember it being so filled when she was still a Kit... but then, she wasn't much older herself, having only become an Apprentice recently. At that thought, she scanned the clearing hoping to catch sight of her mentor, worry pricking her paws.
Once she noticed others breaking away from camp to dig the trench, she hurried over to see if they still needed any help packing the other side.
"Is there more packing or digging to do?" She murmured seriously, her large round eyes boring into Rabbitpaw. She was ready at the waiting.
Though she'd never been in a fire before, she imagined that it needed something to eat... what if some of the Warriors and Apprentices went onto the other side of the trench and helped clear debris? Another thought crossed her mind as she looked up at the sky, hardly a cloud in it - no shelter from the relentless blaze that hung ominous and blinding. Are we upwind from the fire... She hoped the patrol sent out would come back soon, safe and offer some further insight.

Ferocious! Ha! She's still got it!
Leopardpaw obviously takes a but of pride in it with the way she stands up a bit straighter.
She listened as Maggot continued to describe the 'Possum's' actions. Sounded like a really weird critter.
But, Maggot said it was gone now, and she was the scariest, which is something she's holding onto mentally.
Then it said Twilightstar was back, which she could hear the leader's voice a bit away.
Didn't sound like Maggot's mentor was back yet, though. "I'm sure he'll be alright." Leopardpaw said with a smile, searching for where Maggot's voice had come from to give an affectionate headbutt "He sounds tough, he's probably just making sure everyone's safe and stuff."
