A Lonely Walk... (OPEN)

“Oh yeah...” Soybean said, coming to a halt. He had just remembered where they were. “We’re a long ways away anyway.” He sniffed. “That's a shame. The twolegs that took care of me live in that direction.” He paused. “We can just hunt here, I guess.” He began sniffing for prey, although he doubted any would be near, what with all the cat scent here.

Lion watched the other loner for a second before walking off in the other direction. They would have a better chance of finding prey if they split up. The golden tom remembered a time when he almost never went hunting alone. It had been like that until only a little over a moon ago. It was amazing how much could change within a moon. Three moons ago, they'd been on top of the world. It was as if they'd known each other forever, not a single secret slipping past the others' reach. Lion's gaze sharpened at movement in one of the bushes. For three moons, and then it all came crashing down. @FireSandwich

Soybean noticed Lion had gone in the other direction. ‘Probably to cover more ground.’ He thought. ‘And if he decides to leave, oh well. I've been alone almost my whole life, I can deal with it.’ He stumbled forward, walking awkwardly because of his leg. ‘Stupid thing. I can barely hunt with it. I've been thinking about joining a clan, but none of them would take me in like this.’ He sighed quietly. ‘Looks like I’m destined to always be an outsider.’ He noticed a thrush and pounced. It tried flying away but he hit it back down with his paw, then gave it a quick bite to the neck, killing it. He picked it up and padded back to his makeshift nest, where he and Lion had met.

The darkness was calming. It hid... the truth. Nothing to see here, it whispered, just a little secret, hidden in the dark. Leaves rustled as a shrew darted out from under the bush. With a swift pounce, Lion snatched it up, breaking its neck easily. The golden tom sat down and closed his eyes for a moment. Why another shrew? He never realized they were that common.

Lion stood back up, shrew between his jaws, and started walking back to where he and Soybean had slept. He was lost. He used to never get lost. Can a cat get lost if he has no home in the first place? He forced the thought out of his mind, then spotted Soybean. He sat down a few tail lengths from the other loner, making note of the thrush. Lion set his own shrew down and watched it blankly. He should eat, but he wasn't hungry. This was supposed to be a time of relaxation, but he young tom didn't feel relaxed or calm. Lion was itching to do something better. Where did he belong?

Soybean caught sight of Lion. He looked....distracted. Distant. “Hey, you ok?” He asked. Even if he didn't trust Lion just yet, he still wanted him to be ok. The golden tom was young. He should have at least one cat looking after him. Soybean pushed the thrush towards Lion. “You should eat this,” he said. “It has more meat on it than the shrew. I like shrews better anyway.” Soybean's chest hurt. It felt like there was a cat sitting on it. He coughed heavily. ’Oh stars, I better not be getting sick.’ He remembered the last time he'd gotten sick. It had been mild, so hopefully this would be mild as well.

Lion looked up, distracted from his thoughts. "Huh? Oh, I'm fine," he replied automatically. The young tom didn't mind the question. It was nice for someone to pretend to care, even if they didn't really mean it. It was better than being ignored, anyway. "Er, thanks," Lion said as Soybean pushed the thrush towards him. The golden cat pushed his shrew towards Soybean, then slowly tore up the thrush. He might as well eat it for formality's sake, if anything. Soybean's coughs startled the golden tom once more and Lion turned to him quizzically. "Are you sick?" he asked the white and black loner inquisitively. @FireSandwich @Wolfie

[Terrestrial]

A shape ran through the bushes surrounding Lion and Soybean. Icy blue eyes peered through the bushes at them, a gray face could be seen with the eyes. Gray paws emerged slowly from the bushes, blood stained claws glinted in the sunlight. The toms white body emerged then finally his gray tail tip. They stood staring at the two loners. { @bmkmb @FireSandwich }

Lion caught the scent of an approaching cat just seconds before they revealed themselves - icy eyes with white and grey fur. Lion stood swiftly, noting the blood on the cat's claws, his previous question towards Soybean forgotten. A rogue then? Or another loner who just finished hunting? It was dawn; the sun was just beginning to rise above the horizon, painting the forested sky in orange, blue, and purple. "Who are you?" Lion asked the stranger, a hint of warning in his voice. He wasn't sure if he could fight off a rogue right now. @FireSandwich @Wolfie

“I'm sure it's noth-” Soybean stopped talking when the white Tom stepped out of the bushes. He took a nervous step back. He was bad at fighting, seeing as he couldn’t,t pounce well, or see out of his right eye. He noticed the bloodstained claws. ‘...Fox-dung! I'm in no condition to fight. Maybe if I was used to this leg and eye but right now...I don't stand a chance.’ He raised his hackles anxiously. He would probably lose the fight, but he might as well try. ‘Maybe if Lion helped me we could win.’

[Terrestrial]

The tom laughed as they got all hostile! "Hey hey, there's no need for violence now is there?" His laugh turned into a low growl "Or, if you two want a fight...You got one." His gray face scrunched up into a growl as he spoke the last sentence. He was a murderer, and an ex-ThunderClan warrior! He could easily shread them like he did his old 'friend' Blueheart in her territory! She was an easy kill. { @bmkmb @FireSandwich }
