Ares watched carefully with a narrowed gaze as his patrols gathered, his multi-colored tail flicking impatiently behind him. What would he do if there was no prey? If the territory was left in rubble? Why did this feel so difficult? If that was the cases he’d deal with it and build a solution. He refused to let the Atari die. This was his home, his everything.

His blue gaze flicked to Rook as the claw spoke to him. This only cause more worry and anger in the crown, his gaze now narrowed in frustration rather than in a simple assessing manner. Jade rushed up before Ares could snap and he simply sighed in an annoyed manner towards the she. “Alright. That works. If Blair decides to show out if no where, send ‘er my way.” he huffed, before turning away and muttering something about ‘lazy slugs’.

Rook groaned and stretched his lean, muscular body cracking as he moved with a hiss on contempt for his bones. He was young enough that it shouldn't be happening, but that's what he got for exerting himself. Ah well. Rook's heterochromatic gaze shifted, green and yellow eyes looking for Quiet Hail, the queen who had been such a help in raising Shy Horse.

Rook padded in with his minimal kill along with his patrol, ears perked as he looked for Ares after dropping his kill, his gaze shifting to Willow, who was lounged lazily in the sun, eating a plump mouse. That was not going to slide. The towering chimera snarled under his breath and padded to Ares.

"Patrol went good, found a little bit of prey- not the best haul but it'll do. And- look behind you when you get a chance.." He murmured, his voice low and accusing glare behind Ares, trained on Willow.

Nephthys followed the three cats into the camp, keeping a close eye on the rogue. The queen's eyes searched the clearing for Ares, and when they landed on the Crown, she signaled Lightning and Fossa to make their way to him.

"Good evening Ares," the queen started. "The patrol went well for the most part. Lots of the camps closer to the main one are descrated, however, in one of the camps farther down the mountain, we found this rogue," the she-cat mewed coldly. "He wanted to stay, I gave him the option to leave or to bring his concerns to you, so thats why he's here," Nephthys mewed.

Crimson was the first arrival, and he simply nodded. “Did it seem like there was more prey around then that?” they were damned if they only had 3 rabbits to their name. Really, truly damned.

Ares’ pale, slitted gaze swept toward Nephthys as she entered the clearing, then to the rogue shadowing the three of them. “Nephthys.” His voice came cold and quiet, but it carried. As the claw finished speaking, Ares' attention shifted to the rogue. His head tilted slightly, as if weighing the cat before him not as a creature, but as a question. A problem.

“You saw what’s left of the lower camps?” he asked, his tone sharp-edged. “And you thought it wise to stay?” His eyes flicked over the rogue with cool disdain. He didn’t care for complaints—only proof.

“Speak, then. You’ve been brought before the Crown. If you want to live among us, you’d better have something useful to say. Otherwise, Nephthys was generous to let you come up the mountain in one piece.” Ares’ time was too valuable to waste on cowards or wanderers with no claws to show. This cat was either desperate…or dangerous.

Phoenix narrowed his eyes at Ares, the challenge clear in his gaze. The tension between them was palpable, but Phoenix wasn’t one to back down easily. If anything, it made him bolder.

“I saw the camps,” he replied coolly, shrugging like it didn’t faze him. “And I didn’t exactly get a warm welcome. But I’m here now, so you can decide whether I’m a problem or not.” He stared at Ares, letting the words settle before he took another step forward. “You want proof? You’ll see it in time. I hunt, I fight, and I won’t be a burden on anyone.” Phoenix’s voice was steady, despite the underlying edge. Cause he…he wasn’t lying. He could hunt…he was…somewhat capable of fighting. “I can be useful, if that’s what you're worried about." He gave a flick of his tail, his stance bold but not overly aggressive. “As for what’s in it for me... well, let’s just say I’m tired of being alone, stuck on the fringes.” He had been in the wild for 5 moons now. Those 5 moons have been a struggle.

Ares said nothing at first. The mountain winds howled distantly through the peaks behind him, but his silence was heavier than the blizzard's aftermath. His blue eyes never left Phoenix. Then, slowly, he stepped forward.

One step. Two.

He didn’t need to raise his voice. Ares’ power came from presence, the kind that made even seasoned claws keep their head down. Now, standing before the rogue, his words came like steel wrapped in velvet.

“You are a problem.” Not an insult. A statement. Icy, sure. But honest. “I don’t need another mouth. I don’t need another ego. And I certainly don’t need a cat who thinks he’ll be given a place just because he’s tired of being alone.” Another step forward.

“But…” he said, tilting his head slightly, gaze narrowing, “…I do need something that can survive and do a job.” He let that linger for a moment. “If you’re as useful as you say—good. You’ll earn your keep. You’ll fight, you’ll bleed, and you’ll follow orders without question until you’ve proven that your pelt is worth more than snow.” Ares glanced briefly toward Nephthys, then back to Phoenix.

“You’ll start at the bottom. An initiate. No name. No honor. No trust.”
He leaned just a little closer, voice low and deadly calm. “Disobey once, and I won’t be as generous as Nephthys was.” Then, he stepped back again, tail flicking once like the strike of a blade. “Nephthys,” he called coldly, not breaking eye contact, “though we don’t often do assignments, please oversee him as an initiate. Make sure he’s not up to anything and fill me in every half moon on his progress.”
