"No, I wouldn't say anything." Scorchstrike curled her tail around her legs. "I pride myself on my ability to keep secrets." The calico's green eye met the brown tabby's blue ones. What happened to this kit? He was very mature for his age, and oftentimes mature kits had something going on with them. She looked up at the moon again. She could see why Mudkit had wanted to come out and look at it. It really was beautiful. What was it made of? Scorchstrike knew the stars were warriors of Starclan, but what about the moon and the sun? What about stars with blinking lights that moved across the sky? @~Mud

Lilackit got up and walked over. "I'm Lilackit." She meowed, not smiling but not frowning either. She wasn't sure what to think about this Hollowkit.

She hesitated at answering the question though. She'd never told any cat who the father was. "Well, I'm not sure for about half of them. I've adopted Silentkit, Snowkit, Poppykit, Lilackit, and think another one..." she trailed off, not remembering the names of her kits. She had about a dozen in total.

”It’s ok,” she mewed. “I should get going now. The clan needs prey to eat.” her bobtail flicked slightly as she padded out of the nursery.

She looked quite unsure but that wasn't fair he hadn't done anything wrong! It was the first impression right? He had said a goodish impression. A game maybe? Maybe tag! Huh, never played tag he should ask! Wanna play tag? He asked somewhat cheerfully his tail swished back and forth and he crouched down a bit.

Mudkit took a deep breath, glancing at Scortchstike. If I really go through with this, it'll be the first time I told anyone about my dreams... He looked at the moon as it shone unblinking in the dark of the night sky. He seemed to draw some strength from it as he sat there in the moonlight. His brown tabby pelt shone gray in the light of the moon. He took another deep breath, settling into a laying position with his paws tucked under him and his tail curled around his body, and began with his story.

"When my dream starts, I'm in the middle of the camp clearing. There are cats all around me and the leader is looking down at me. It takes me a moment to realize what's going on, but I find out that it's my apprentice ceremony. I...don't like to be pressed against so many cats, so I feel uncomfortable, but also a little excited. I'm finally going to be able to be an apprentice! The beginning of the dream always feels good at first. But the worst nightmares always do.
When the leader is about to give me my new name, all the cats of the clan rebel. They say that I shouldn't train to be an apprentice of Shadowclan. They say all the reasons why... 'He's not big enough!' 'He doesn't deserve to train to be in our clan!' 'Look at his scrawny size! He'll never be able to hunt or fight!' 'He'll just be nothing but a burden!' Then, Dawnstar looks down on me, shadows in her eyes, and says, 'You are all right. What was I thinking? Mudkit doesn't deserve to be here. Do with him what you will.'" Mudkit took a deep breath, stopping in his story. His voice had changed from grouchy to terrified. His body was quivering again as he told about the dream. The dream had always been so real to him that he felt as if he was actually there. But, of course, he wasn't. It was only a dream...He took a few steadying breaths and continued.

"Then, all the cats surround me, talking to me in loud voices. They're taunting me. Jeering at me. I move quickly, trying to find a way out. I don't like to hear their voices filling my ears. Telling me all of the faults I've ever had. I'm panting wildly, becoming desperate now. As I search for an opening, someone trips me and roll a few times before stopping. I lay there on the ground for a few moments, covering my ears with my paws and wishing I could disappear. They still mock me and taunting me. 'Look at him lying there like a baby...' 'He couldn't become a warrior if he trained his whole life!' I'm laying there still, trying to wish my way out of there when suddenly someone slams a paw onto my head. I jump up, my eyes searching wildly for the cat who attacked me. But all I see are cats laughing and pointing their paws at me. I wonder why they are doing this. What did I ever do to them?" Mudkit had to pause again. This was all so much. The feelings he had felt in the dream were resurfacing. The feeling of panic and blind fear that had been locked in the dark shadows of his brain were starting to return. He had never wanted to unlock the cage again, but now it seemed like he was turning the key with his own paw. He dug his claws into the ground before starting again, hoping it would help steady him as he told the story.

"As I look at the cats around me, I can't see their faces but I can tell that they are from my clan. I'm still always searching for a way to escape. Then, my eyes find a small gap in the wild mass of cat bodies. It's only a sliver, but I don't care. I race through the gap, needing to get away from the throng. As I race through the cats rake their claws on my side, but I hardly feel it. Everything already feels so numb. I run through the pine forest, not knowing where I am going, but just going away. Away from the shadowy faces and away from the jeering voices." Mudkit paused again here, knowing that the next part of the dream was one of the scariest for him. He sat up, leaning back on his haunches. He was trembling, so he took deep breathes until he finally stopped. He dug his claws out of the ground and crouched, curling his tail around him again. He closed his eyes, imagining the dream while he spoke.

"Then, suddenly instead of the soft padding of pine needles beneath my paws, there is nothing. Nothing but air. Then, I'm falling. Falling down to my death. As I fall, I hear all that my clanmates said about me. 'He's not big enough!' 'Look at his scrawny size!' 'He doesn't deserve to train to be in our clan!' 'He'll never be able to hunt or fight!' 'He'll only be a burden!' As these ring through my head, I see the ground approach and I close my eyes to meet my death. But it never comes. I just wake up." Mudkit opened his eyes and just stay crouched there on the ground, staring into nothing. His eyes were filled with the shadows from his dream. He'd had this dream for most of his life and it had caused him to become wary of others, even his own clanmates. The only way he knew to make it so that no one would come near him was to be grouchy and mean all of the time. He blinked and looked up at the moon, needing to see it. As the light of the moon met his eyes, it seemed to chase the shadows away, making his eyes bright and clear once more. He looked over at Scortchstrike, his eyes big, wondering in fear what she would say.

Lilackit studied Hollowkit. She didn't really know him, maybe she could learn more about him if they played a game? "Sure."

Ok.. Um- TAG! He exclaimed lightly flicking her shoulder with his tail and started to run he zig-zagged somewhat as he ran he looked behind to see if she was chasing him or not but she must have! And if he looked back he might get hurt or something so he shouldn't be looking back.

Scorchstrike's heart was breaking for this baby. "Mudkit, that was very brave of you to tell me. I promise I don't think less of you, and neither will anyone else. That dream really does suck, and if I had that dream I wouldn't be sleeping either." What she got from Mudkit's story is that he's scared that he's not good enough to be a warrior, and everyone's gonna hate him. "I swear nobody hates you. Sure, some kits are jerks, but not everybody wants you dead. I don't. I think you're a pretty cool cat."
Scorchstrike really did like this kit. Maybe she could talk to Dawnstar about being his mentor?

(Aw, thanks! That means so much to me! This is the first time I've ever written like this!)

Mudkit stared dumbly at Scortchstrike. Thoughts were flowing through his head like a raging river. She thinks I'm brave? She doesn't think less of me? He stayed crouched on the ground, trying to make himself believe this was real. She doesn't hate me or think that I'm a baby! In fact, she thinks that I'm cool! Mudkit's eyes shone so brightly that they seemed to rival the moon's white light. As he stood still, crouched on the ground, the grouchy, grumpy, hard exterior seemed to be melting away. Beneath it, a kind, hopeful kit seemed to emerge.

Suddenly, he stood up, his mind filled with hopeful thoughts for the future. I know I can become a warrior! And if people can't see that, I'll have to show them! As Mudkit turned towards Scortchstrike, the world seemed to be shown in a brand new light. A big smile, one of his first in moons, seemed to plainly and brightly show this. Mudkit looked at the calico she-cat for a moment, his light blue eyes filled with light and hope. His short brown tabby pelt seemed to almost radiate this newfound feeling he had been shown. As he looked at her, he realized something. Talking about my dream really DID help! Maybe my dream will even change as it did for Scortchstrike!

Then, in an act of pure gratitude, Mudkit raced over to Scortchstrike and softly rubbed his face against her neck. This was one of the first times in his life he had ever shown affection for someone, let alone actually touch them! "Thank you, Scortchstrike." Those three words were the only words he could think of that could express his gratitude. This talk with Scortchstrike might not get rid of his dreams for good, or even change them, but it would surely help Mudkit in the future. From now on I'm going to try to be less grouchy to people. After all, if I hadn't opened up and told Scortchstrike about my dream, I never would have felt so good and happy and free! I might not change overnight. In fact, it will probably take much longer. But, I know that with Scortchstrikes help and with her talks I can only get better from here!

Scorchstrike was shocked and then purred at the sudden onslaught of affection. "You're welcome."Mudkit had a different look about him, seemed happier and more free. Did...I do something really good? Scorchstrike had never really been important to anyone before, so this was a new feeling. "You know, it's very late. You should be in bed, and so should I. We've both got long days tomorrow, so get a good night's sleep." @~Mud

Silentkit
Silentkit was shivering. Her missing fur patches weren't growing back anytime soon, and all the other cats and kits around her were getting scary. She tried to call for someone, but her voice box was wrecked and only came out as a slight croak. I miss Mama... @Paradise
