Ah. There she was! Seeds was her sister, and she loved her. Needed to protect her because for some reason Seeds just didn't realize how much better than everyone else she was. So of course, her first instinct was to run away at the loud sounds everywhere in the clearing. A fact that the fluffy calico was quick to roll her eyes over, even as she approached her sister and sniffed her over to make sure she was unhurt.
"Stupid fire, duh. Haven't you heard? Why else you hiding? Don't worry, though. Grandma Dapple went out to beat it up. And poppa is making sure it can't ever get into camp. Lighten up," she mewed, a giddy grin gracing her maw as she spoke.
Grandma Dapple was amazing. She knew that much. She was one of those higher ups that helped the higher ups. Which was really just a step below leader as far as she was aware, therefore it was awesome! Snowydad was sadly not that great. Just a regular warrior. Nothing special like the rest of their family. But apparently even he was among the ones pulling their weight this time around. He was being useful! Finally a cat she could be proud to call dad!
Grin growing even more, Cardinalkit turned to look at the nursery entrance, twitching her tail over while trying to convince Seedkit to join her. Keeping Seeds safe was the number one priority right now, obvs. But that didn't mean she wanted to be stuck back here missing all the action. Like, who did that? Other than Seeds, duh. But she was allowed.
"We should, like, go over to the entrance. See, see? Even Leopardsong is getting all pumped! Plus, don't you want to go see Ber bring the rock heads over here? Bet it'll be-"
The young kit suddenly paused, the chaos in the clearing suddenly getting louder. Cats screaming left and right, forcing her tiny ears up. What was up? Why was everyone so loud again? Had something happened? Had fire finally managed to break into the camp!?
With a small hiss for Seeds to follow, Cardinalkit rushed as fast as her tiny kit legs allowed her to towards the nursery entrance, the sight that met her eyes making them round in a mixture of instinctual fear and awe. Right there, coming into the nursery, was the strangest cat the kit had ever seen! Long, white face with a wide mouth filled with devastatingly long, pointed teeth. The dark fur on its body was messy and abundant, yet for some reason not quite reaching its odd paws and bald tail. Was... was that fire? Was that thing what Firenotmom had been named after?! That strange rat cat?!
Thick, kittenish paws trembled as she fell on her rump, sitting in shock at the sight. Suddenly feeling very small in the face of that thing. Her mouth opened and closed a few times as she saw cats intervening all around it. Attacking it even as some kits called for their mothers, the medicine cat seemingly rushing out of the den with a look of utter determination on her face... and Snowydad! Snowydad was rushing into the camp! Aiming his head straight at the opossum as he attempted to barrel it over to the ground!
She had never taken note of just how imposing her father's figure could be. He was so soft. So weak. It had never occurred to her that he wasn't just a cat. He was a warrior who had earned his name, same as the rest of them. But right now, with his fur standing on end, his mane puffed like a lion's, and his fangs glinting as he snarled at the fire, she couldn't help but look up at him in awe.
"Woah! Woah! Seeds come here! Look at poppa! Look! Huh?! Freezekit! Come over here! You're going to get in the way of the cats fighting the fire!" she called out, noticing the kit that was simply staggering along, fur on end as he made his way across the clearing.
Nevermind Firenotmom's kits being weird and trying to take on the fire. At least the medicine cat seemed to be heading their way. This one though? He seemed proper lost! Just like... Wait... Where were the others?! The rock heads seemed to be back... but where was Ber?!
"Ber! Ber! Where are you?! Come back Ber!" Cardinalkit cried out, realization setting in that she hadn't seen her sister since she'd headed out to get the rock heads. If... if something happened to Ber because Jaggedkit and Frostkit where being morons she was going to feed them to the fire herself!

Windkit's eyes widened as a strange and intimidating looking creature made its way to the clearing. Well, this won't do! Before she could say anything about it, Littlekit decided she was going to be the hero and announce the monster's arrival.
"Yeah- I see it! It's huge! Woa-" She was suddenly cut off when Littlekit moved her paws to cover her ears. What was thi-
OH.
Startled by the sudden screaming, Windkit puffed up her tail, every single hair on her standing on end. WHO WAS THIS "MEDICINEMA" AND WHY WAS HER LITTERMATE SCREAMING FOR THEM? Then it dawned on her.
"LIGHTNINGSTOOOOOORRRRRMMMMM!!!!!!! FIIIIIIIIREEESTOOOOOOORRRMMMM!!!!!" She joined in the chaotic yelling, before she was cut off once again by a gentle shaking. No surprise, it was Littlekit again, gently rocking her back and forth as if to coax her to sleep.
"Whu-" more and more shaking. Eventually, the shaking got so bad all Windkit could see were blurs. She could barely hear Littlekit over her strange wooshing noises around her. Something about gathering up the kits? Being made apprentices? Taking down the monster? Ganging up on it? Windkit was almost confident the order of these plans were a bit mismatched, but she was in too of a pickle to figure out what was the correct order.
And finally. It was over. As soon as Littlekit let go, Windkit fell on her back, legs in the air like a dead possum. Was this how it felt to be dead? Well, Windkit felt very dead. With a strained groan she wobbled back on all fours, shaking her head. OH WOW. THAT DID NOT DO ANYTHING BETTER.
She blinked, her vision finally coming into focus and seeing the familiar dilute calico pelt. She couldn't see much at all, her vision not as blurry and fuzzy as before but still quivering. Ohh, yeah. They'd kill that monsterr! With the other kitsss! As she took a shaky step forward, determined to show the monster who really is the scary one, she felt herself be nudged backwards, presumably where the Nursery was. Great! They'll get reinforcements. And make their group stronger! Right?
WIndkit was eventually brought inside teh Nursery, her eyes blinking slowly and her head swaying from time to time. Was the Nursery always this colourful?
"WhyyyyY, we coulda killed that thing!" She murmured, waving her paws in the air.

What the hell was that? Whatever it was, Rabbitkit was entertaining and of course one of her kits just had to be there. "SKYKIT!" Leopardsong hissed, bolting out of the nursery to fetch the wayward kitten. She is not as kind as she normally is as she aims to scoop the kit up by the scruff and haul her butt back to the nursery. "Stay inside!" The queen bolted out to collect the rest of the kits. "Ashkit, Jaggedkit, Frostkit, Cedarkit. Get your butts inside the nursery, I want all the kits inside the nursery right this second or I swear I'll make sure Twilightstar holds your apprentice ceremonies back." This was no time for games or playing nice.

Ashkit rolled away from Frostkit and started running, not checking where she was following him. Panting, he arrived next to Leopardsong. “I’m here” he said without any hint of emotion. He looked back to check if Frostkit was there. Not yet. Ashkit noticed his fur was very messy, and he started grooming it a bit. It was then that he noticed the smell. Smoke, he thought. “Leopardsong, is there a smell of smoke? I’m pretty sure there is, right?” he asked hesitantly, stopping in his grooming for a second. But at that moment, a Twilightstar called for a meeting, at the Galewood. “Uh… I’ll go to the Galewood then…?” with Twilightstar starting to talk, he didn’t wait more and walked towards it looking back for some approval of Leopardsong.
"Okay. That's good. You guys are brave, I forgot. It's not going to be scary if we have to leave. It will just be a thing that happens." Maggotpaw has no real understanding of or appreciation for the danger here. It knows, objectively, that a fire is a thing that spreads and kills. It knows, objectively, that anything that could het the clan all up and in a tizzy like this must be a very serious thing. Even so, the anxiety permeating the air and tension pulling everyone's hackles up doesn't quite sink into the pale apprentice. It is annoyed that this is happening, bothered by the inconvenience, and excited to get the cats it likes most all together—but not afraid.
The opossum, though. That's new. That gets a startled twitch out of Maggotpaw the moment it spots the commotion between the odd animal and the cat it'd collided with because that thing is so ugly!
"There is a very ugly thing in camp now," it quickly narrates for the cats who cannot see what's happening. "And it isn't Whisperinghive, it's something else. It's like........a mouse. But cat-sized, if the cat's a big cat. A catmouse. Don't worry, I won't let the catmouse eat you. It's not close enough right now to do that, and I'll chase it if it gets closer." Maggotpaw promises, looking goofy the way it's risen onto its toes, cocked its body to the side, and has its whole scraggly pale coat bristling as threanteningly as it can. "But only if it tries to get you guys." Maggotpaw isn't a hero and they certainly aren't a fighter, but they have a vested interest in keeping the little group it's gathered up safe and uneaten. Or, whatever that ugly catmouse might do to them all. Maggotpaw's eyes dart toward Leopardsong, who's gathering all of the kittens up to quickly put them away. Is the catmouse a kitten-eating thing, or is she just worried one of the little scraps might try to play with it? Maggotpaw has old-cats and blind-cats to deal with, which are weak things (it has no comment on the blind-cat who was the first to get a hit in), which are easy to eat if something eats cats. Hm.
"Everybody, can you all get big?" Maggotpaw asks. "Get big and go grrr-rr-rrr." If the catmouse has wandered into camp because it's stupid, then it will be easily fooled into thinking that they are a gathered bunch of formidable foes all arched-back and growly-chested. And if it came to camp to escape the fire—which Maggotpaw guesses is what smells so foul—, then it knows how to be scared of something, so they should all do their best to look and sound scary. "There are warriors hitting it and biting it right now, but you are all going back into the elders' den if they don't chase it away quick. Duckthroat, could you help Fidgetberry and Leopardpaw get there? But slow? And while you all stand up big and go grrr?" Maggotpaw asks in a quiet growl, not taking its eyes off of the intruding beast or dropping out of its puffed up, sideways stance. "This isn't a scary thing, either, so keep being brave. It is just a thing that has to happen now."
“From the dark, dark forest to the pale, pale glade, the three tiny people were very afraid.”

| Snowybreeze | 30 Moons - WindClan Warrior
Heightened Perception [Smell] - Active | Rapid Recovery - Inactive | The Collector - Inactive | Not Skiddin' Around - Active
The silent warrior had been reluctant for a moment to leave his kits behind during this emergency when Lightningstorm had first called him. Cardinalkit, being the usual, rambunctious, energetic kit that she was had rushed out of the nursery at the first signs of trouble, and the tom had already had to implore to her once to please stay put, a request his daughter was very clearly not thrilled about. And of course, he understood! To stay hidden while the rest of the clan worked to keep everyone safe was not the best feeling in the world. But... his treasures were still too small. Too vulnerable to the cruelties of the world. And he could still remember the previous fire. They had lost their home. The nest he and Berryfrost had shared had been reduced to ashes, and none of the treasures he had painstakingly obtained for her had been saved. Well, except for her favorite, jagged little rock, that was.
It was a harrowing thought. To have lost those treasures had been disheartening, yes... but they had each other. They would survive and make new memories and find new treasures. That had been the dream. One that sadly would never see fruition. But what of his new little treasures? Stars... if he lost them. If any of them perished to the flames... No. No he would not allow it. He would carry them all to safety if he must. He would walk through the very flames if it meant his kittens could live to see another day.
And so, when he heard what his task was? That he was not to fight the fire, but ensure the safety of the clan? Relief washed over him. He would not be taken away from his litter. He was in fact to work in order to keep them and the rest of the cats who might not be able to flee safe. Little as he might know about digging, he would take on this task gratefully, and without a word he followed after Dustbunny and Fleetpaw, putting massive paws to the endeavor ahead.
It was a silent job. Only the scraping of the earth could be heard for a long time. His nose twitched on occasion, the smoke that slowly became more and more obvious in the air taking over his sensitive nose until he could smell nothing but the stench of scorched soil. A small whimper escaped him, but he did not allow himself to look away from the trench they dug through. To pause might mean death for those inside the camp's walls if they couldn't finish what the medicine cat had ordered them to do.
It hadn't been until Dustbunny reacted that he noticed anything amiss. The tunneler suddenly launched forward, and mismatched ears perked up, gaze following after her as he finally allowed himself to stop their urgent task. He wouldn't think her one to try and get out of what Lightningstorm had asked for them, and this knowledge was quick to make the blood roar in his ears, concern and fear swirling within him as the scent of smoke drowned out his surroundings more than rain or snow ever could. That's when he saw it. The opossum. A creature he was barely familiar with. Back in twolegplace he had met some during his journey back home... and none of them had seemingly wanted to tangle with him, for which he was very grateful for. This one, however, was very keen to simply waltz into camp. Into WindClan's camp. The place where his kittens were hiding away from the flames.
Fur standing on end, Snowybreeze snarled, pupils narrowing to slits as he heard Dustbunny's cry for help. With a yowl of rage uncommon in the normally gentle giant, the tom stampeded forward, broad paws treading the earth with enough strength to displace soil and dust with every swift step. Lowering his head, he aimed at the creature's flank as it snapped its jaws at the tunneler, mane raised in his adrenaline infused rush. They had to build the trench. Must finish it, yes! But as long as there was any creature who could hurt his kits or any of his precious clanmates his priorities would have to shift. This beast needed to leave. The sooner, the better.

Chill of Death-Inactive

Very ugly thing in camp now...?
Well, Leopardpaw could definitely hear what was going on, at least.
Get all big? Like, puff up her fur?
Alrighty!
She can do that.
She puffs up her spotted short fur as much as she can. "This good?" She asked her younger sibling.
It feels fine, but who knows how she looks right now.
Then Maggot is asking Duckthroat to help them if needed.
Ugh.
This makes her feel like a freshly born kit with eyes that are still closed.
The scent of smoke and fire was thickly casing the air, and Owlpaw couldn’t help but let out a throaty whimper, as everyone had left and she didn’t get chosen, not at all because of the actual fire. Stormy had gone, and Breezy.. what was she to do? There were so many tiny children here. Including Demon Baby. Demon Baby was being peaceful in her sight as far as she was aware, so that was a plus. Little gremlin. But the thick, ashy, intense smell of smoke for some reason made Aubs’ fur stand on end on the back of her neck. Not very nice. The gray fire clouds seemed to grow slightly stronger, and then all of the sudden out of nowhere a big gray and white and partially bald animal popped into camp, staggering around hissing and sounding angry. Wait, where were all the warriors? This was bad- OH NOOO it was going for cats! Evil! Sorcery! Owlpaw let out a yelp as she jumped back, landing in a snarling curved bow in front of the nursery, where she had been standing a few feet away. A primitive snarl-grow rumbled in her throat, rising to a defensive hiss as she watched with piercing green-blue eyes. She had no training.
But alas, being the fearless cat she was without a sense of self-preservation, the multicolor ginger-red feline couldn’t help but twitching in desire to stand off against the face of danger to defend her clan. For Jumper n Bigcat n Breezy! They’d be sooo proud! Or angry. But it was mostly instinct, right? Probably. How wrong could it go? Just. Use your hunting crouch n pounce and attack! Okay, she’d made up her mind. With an ear-splitting battle cry, Owlpaw hurdled at top speed toward the opossum, teeth pressed together in focus. As she lunged for the animal, the apprentice suddenly wondered if this was a bad idea. Oh well! Too late now. If Aubs went down, she’d go down fighting! Wheeeee! The large apprentice’s forepaws (claws unsheathed) were aimed to slam into the space between spine and flank, hoping to off balance the weird-looking creature.

An orange tabby, that looked approximately six moons, approached the fight. “Whoa, calm down you three! What do you think you’re doing?” he got in the middle of the commotion to stop the kits fighting. That made him get a few punches and kicks, but nothing too serious. “Do you know the grown ups here are getting extremely stressed because of all the chaos?” the kit said that in a reproachful tone, but that want very obvious. He didn’t feel good about directly reproaching others. He then turned to Jaggedkit and Cedarkit. “Especially you two’s mother, Leopardsong.” he added without any emotion. The kit was still tense, meaning he was ready for eventual kicks or punches.

While Leopardsong worked on herding kittens into the nursery, Dreamlight spun on her heel picking up the scent of smoke and nearly stumbling as something bumped into her. Between Leopardsong's and Rabbitpaw's panic, and the hissing that didn't anything like a cat, Dreamlight could figure that whatever ran into her was not a cat. "Get to the nursery," Dreamlight spat at her younger brother while whipping around to latch her fangs around the weird vine thing she thought might be a tail.
The creature hissed and pain blistered above her head where her ears sat. Dreamlight released the tail with a loud yap, and the opossum let go of her ear only after Dustbunny flung herself it, nipping at its paws. "Help me drive it out of camp." Dustbunny yowled, darting out of the way of another bite.

Jaggedkit punch was intercepted by ginger mass that was not his opponent. Taking an offended step back, he glared up at the older kit who had intercepted the most epic Jaggedfrost team up ever. Jagged was even more offended when he was mistaken for being leopard whosit's son and this nobodies sibling! He was just about shout his many complaints when frostkits jumped away from the dual he had been locked in with the other kit and attacked the new intruder instead. He'd never been more proud to be frostkits twin in that moment. He smugly watched frost and the rude interrupter brawl for a few more moments before bunching his muscles and preparing to throw himself into the fray- that was until a commanding shout had him frozen to the spot.
Oh boo, way to ruin their fun. Jaggedkit straightened his posture and glared at the queen who was calling them back, what a party killer. The kit, who he assumed to be either ashkit or cedarkit, immediately abandoned the fight with a kit half his size and went running back towards leopardsong like instructed. "Coward!" he shouted after the fleeing kit before turning back to his brother and trotting over to him. "good job! We should team up more often" he praised while also attempting to butt his head against Frosts in display of approval. He wasn't in any hurry to get back in the nursery, they weren't even that far out! Merely at the entrance of the den. Jeez there was no reason for Leopardsong to sound so stressed as she was. Come to think of it, now that he wasn't so focused on his own battle the sound of panicked screaming was registering in his brain. Jaggedkit turned to look at the clearing behind him to spot who was was making such a fuss and instead was met with sight of a huge and ugly looking rat cat. Was that what everyone had been shouting about earlier- wait where had everyone gone!?! Wide eyes stared horrified at the creature that had broken into the camp, suddenly running back to the nursery didn't seem so cowardly. Jaggedkit sprinted back into the safety of the den where he could see cards staring out at the creature in the clearing too. He wasn't even fully in the nursery and yet he felt so much safer-- not because the queens where the no! Because he was closer to his siblings. Which sounded dumb but it was true. "What is that thing??" he hissed glaring back the monster, it was getting attacked now by no other than his own dad! Snowydad!! The creature didn't stand a chance- it was still scary but it didn't stand a chance!!
