Midnightpaw followed Rookfire back to camp, carrying her catches back home. She dropped her three pieces of prey–one frog, two squirrels–and then she raced after her patrolmates to ensure that nobody got in trouble.
"Sorry! Very sorry, my sincerest apologies for lagging behind." She gave a dip of her head, keeping her head bowed until she heard any words from Mistlewhisker.

Ah, there she was. Good. Mistlewhisker dipped her head at the rushing apprentice. "As long as you are back in one piece." She meowed, then dismissed them with a flick of her tail. Looks like she caught a good amount, too. Mistlewhisker was certain a warrior ceremony was around the corner for Midnightpaw.

The apprentice trotted into camp with a vole and mouse in tow hanging from its jaws. Of course, as usual it did end up getting distracted on the trek back. It was impossible not to, even though Gutspaw truly was trying not to diddle-daddle when they were running a bit on the late side of things.
Still, teeth had came across large, shining white feathers by luck. It was absolutely perfect and they simply had to make the stop to grab them. So, if one gazed closer they could see white poking out from the prey animals.
It spotted the deputy, talking inaudibly to its patrolmates - Hillstrider and Ravenheart who seemed to have already reported. Gutspaw paused, changing its direction to approach behind Mistlewhisker. For the reputation, y'know. It was always good to try and give a good spook, helped the blood pump.

Gutspaw dropped what it was holding beside her, "Nope. Afraid Gutspaw went chasing a frog and fell off a cliff. Splat. End of 'em, though its a good thing it buried what it caught beforepaw, " It piped up, its whiskers twitching in amusement. See. It totally knew how to hunt. Bleeh.

No sooner had she questioned Hillstrider and Ravenheart did a familiar voice pipe up from behind her, earning a twitch of a large ear and a flick in the face by a surprised tail. Mistlewhisker glanced over her shoulder at Gutspaw, giving bite an unamused look. "Unfortunate. I had expected better from my apprentice." She noticed the prey in bite's jaws, pleased to see teeth had remembered their hunting lesson. "Thank you for catching prey in bite's stead."

the walk back did nothing to quell the heat scorching on his dark pelt. summer was always the worst; last greenleaf he had been young, confined to the safety of the nursery, sweet shade protecting dark coat from the sun's scorching rays.
wow, is it hot out here or is it just him?
he was kind of dizzy, carrying his prey back into camp with the apprentices on his heels. swaying as he came to a stop before the command post- late. of course. late. late late. he dipped his head politely despite the swirl of exhaustion.
"nothing. . . to note in the grotto, i've. . . i've collected 3 pieces of prey for the clan. the apprentices hunted well, too. my. . . my apologies, mistlewhisker, for the lateness. you have only me to blame for that." he nodded and stepped aside to deposit his prey in the pile before sitting and watching the rest of his patrol report, feeling his pulse thundering in his own ears.

Approaching the deputy from behind the sad excuse of a warrior, he sets his kill down to report his hunt.
"Three mice from me, Mistlewhisker. Apologies for the tardiness." When he says this he can't help but side eye Burningnight but says nothing. Simply picks up his prey and also makes his way over to the fresh kill pile to drop off the mice he caught.

The small apprentice toddled along with the group, keeping her mouse and chunky sparrow clamped in her jaws much harder than she anticipated. The sparrow's wing kept bumping her, making her sneeze and nearly drop her whole package. Finally getting to camp and setting down her prey at the paws of Mistlewhisker, Birdpaw smiled widely and innocently. Not a single thought ran through her mind other than a vague sense that she was hungry, and that she wondered when her next patrol would be.

herb patrols were called down by the star freckled tom grousepaw had come to regard as something beyond the caging definition of mentor and more akin to a friend. an ally, perhaps. his two moons spent in the acrid herb-hewn den had been, to his surprise, rather pleasant with the older though smaller medic at his side to lend a guiding paw. so, when he tilted his head up to appraise his assignment, it was with no short amount of respect and mirth behind his flaming eyes.
"hell yeah. you're too kind, bossman." grouse smiled too-wide up at his mentor.
lady's mantle, celandine. both seemed useful- incredibly so, in their own ways. he was eternally grateful for any scrap of knowledge tossed his way and he seized it for safe keeping like a rabid, hungry dog. with a wry smile, he turned to appraise his patrolmates.
eyyy! quillpaw. he was rather fond of that prickly lad if only for all the wrong reasons. watching him writhe in misery and loathing was nothing if not hilarious.
the other two, however, were relatively untrodden ground for him; he hadn't spoken to either personally. so, like he always did, he flashed a disarming grin and welcomed his clanmates with no regard for rank or hierarchy.
"i wouldn't really call myself the patrol leader," he mused with a flick of his tail, leading towards the camp exit, "just don't do nothin' crazy, al'ight?"
