Larkstorm followed Leafecho out of camp and to the border. She looked in each direction, a habit she had made when the battles had begun. She supposed it was getting old by now, but she just couldn’t shake it off her. “So, how are we doing this?” She asked Leafecho.

Once they had gotten close to the Thunderclan border Dragonflyfrond perked his ears up in surprise. Was that…Thunderclan scent? He hadn’t expected that. They haven’t marked in moons! I wonder what this means, especially with the new truce. He flicked his tail nervously. He didn’t want to run into a Thunderclan patrol with a young apprentice. Or at all for that matter. He nodded at Shimmerbird’s warning. Well at least this means Minnowpaw will learn what Thunderclan smells like.

“Do you smell that musty scent, Minnowpaw? That’s Thunderclan. They haven’t marked in a while. I guess they’re getting back on top of things.” He didn’t know how much his apprentice knew about what was going on outside of camp. It was important information for her to know, so he supposed it couldn’t hurt to tell her again if she’s already heard it. He hoped so at least.

Shimmerbird frowned after she finished marking her portion of the border. It appeared that Minnowpaw had decided not to follow them after all. Maybe it was because she was afraid of ThunderClan? The molly could definitely understand that sentiment, but nonetheless she would have to report the apprentice to Kestrelstar.

"Well, once you finish we should head back. It seems Minnowpaw decided not to come after all and we've been out here a while already. We shouldn't keep Kestrelstar waiting," Shimmerbird said softly as she turned towards Dragonflyfrond.

The silver tom nodded. What Shimmerbird had said made sense. His tail tip twitched nervously, however. I should have made sure she was here before we left! What kind of mentor looses his apprentice! He was already turning out to be horrible at this!

“Alright then let’s head back.” He marked one last time before turning around.

Leafecho walked quietly, uncomfortable with being followed as she was used to being the one who followed. Getting out of camp after the last few tense days was a relief though. Though as soon as she felt the relief trickle in it was immediately replaced by guilt. She'd come into the clan from being a loner for fifty moons and at the first sign of turmoil she didn't want to be the type who reverted back to their old loner says. No, she shook her head, this was her home, for better or for worse. No matter what was going on, Thunderclan had still taken her in and it was the best home she'd ever had, it still was the best home she'd ever had.

She realized they made it to the border and somewhat distractedly sniffed the air, parting her maw. The Riverclan side of the border smelled fresh. She didn't know whether to take that as a good sign or a bad. They clearly weren't letting their guard down but that also meant they would be less likely to run into a patrol if the patrol had gone over jt recently. She looked to Larkstorm. "Oh...uh...how are we...how are we doing what?"

Oh. Had she not been paying attention? “You’re the leader,” Larkstorm replied. “How do you want to patrol the border?” Leafecho seemed really confused, as if she had no idea what she was doing. Larkstorm wondered if this was her first time leading a patrol. “You want me to lead?” She asked her Clanmate. Maybe Leafecho would benefit from someone else taking the lead.

Leafecho's mind slowly settled back into focus. She was leading the border patrol, sure she'd realized that at camp but it was not a position she was used to. The questions fogged her mind again. She searched her mind to think back to the other patrols she'd been a part of. How had they answered questions? Surely and confidently. But that wasn't Leafecho. She shook her head as she tried to clear the nervous lump in her throat. It was tempting to let another cat take the lead so she could settle back into a more comfortable subservient role again but Dogbark had entrusted the responsibility to her and she had to fulfill her roles to the clan. "No, no I can do it. We...uh...we refresh our borders quickly, don't look for trouble, head back to camp." Leafecho felt heat flush beneath her pelt but quickly turned and rubbed her scent against the roots of a tree growing along the border before trotting off down the line of the border.

Larkstorm nodded. “Ok, sure.” She nodded again at Leafecho. “Yeah, sounds like a plan.” She followed Leafeacho’s lead, beginning to mark the markers Leafecho missed. As she did she looked out for any RiverClan Clan scent on their territory, but could smell none. “See anything out of the ordinary?” She asked Leafecho.

Smelling the stench of ThunderClan, Looncry knew
he was close to the border. Struggling to push
back the memories of this wretched place he
creeped closer to the looming trees where
enemy warriors lied. He would neve forgive
these cats for murdering Ottersplash, Olivenose,
and all the other horrible things they had done.

He wasn’t going to run this time.

Tears started to drop. If he had been
more aware he could have saved
Ottersplash. He glared in the
direction of ThunderClan, but if they
hadn’t started the whole mess
Ottersplash wouldn’t have needed saving.
Unfortunately, however much he regretted it,
he would never be able to change the past.

He scanned the border but didn’t catch a
single glimpse of anyone. But the
ThunderClan side was so covered,
that it was possible he was being watched
at this very moment. That feeling sent
shivers down Looncry’s spine.

Leafecho stayed vigilantly aware of her surroundings though she let Larkstorm fade into the background. Trust didn't come easily to Leafecho but she was fairly confident that the molly wouldn't randomly turn on her own clanmate for no reason so there wasn't much need to keep her in her awareness. She kept glancing across the border as she marked. It felt like something was lurking but it'd been many moons since Leafecho hadn't felt like she was being watched constantly, like she needed to have one eye over her shoulder at all times. The feeling was slowly fading since she'd been in Thunderclan but with the recent turmoil she'd noticed that it'd stopped its regression. Nothing seemed to be amiss on the other side. She didn't look back to Larkstorm as she shook her head, but she looked again across the border and marked a bramble bush. "No, nothing seems out of the ordinary to me." She then turned to look at the warrior. "Do, uh, do you want to start heading back?"

Larkstorm shrugged. “Yeah, I mean we’ve gotten all the border markers and there’s been no sighting of any RiverClan cats. I think we’re good to go.” She began to walk back to camp with a flick of her tail to Leafecho to follow her, then stopped and felt her pelt flush with embarrassment. “We, do you want to lead?” She asked awkwardly. Larkstorm had gotten ahead of herself, again. She took a step backward, allowing Leafecho to take the lead.
