I've fended for myself long enough," they said, looking down at him with an expression of disgust. "Save it for someone who actually wants it, dumbass. Coulda done it for one of the survivors of the flood, but oh no, senior warrior Smokestep's moral compass is well-tuned enough to want to help everyone."
Starclan, they hated do-gooders like this. There was always something just bubbling beneath the surface, and since most genuinely kind cats wouldn't just be lurking around another Clan's territory, it wasn't hard to land at the conclusion they already had. Loyalty was of worth, they figured, but Creekgaze was just too used to being left alone. They'd rather have Pinewhisker do something like this; someone they actually knew, instead of a relative stranger swooping right in and tenderly grooming them as if they had been together for about twelve moons. It was ridiculous, to be quite frank, and they figured they were justified in doing all this.
Snorting at their own comment, Creekgaze's tail lashed as he turned to flee. "Exactly," the colourpoint tabby smirked. "If you actually had something to defend yourself with, you wouldn't just leave."
|
Smokestep turned, his eyes burning with anger. It was getting harder and harder to contain and Creekgaze was just going under his fur even more. "And why does me leaving mean anything to you?" The black smoke spun around padded a few tail lengths toward the she-cat again and sat down, his thick tail covering his paws.

Creekgaze's smirk only grew wider; they were playing him like a fiddle now. "Don't flatter yourself," they beamed, tail rising. "I literally couldn't care less about you in particular. Just pointing out that you wouldn't turn unless your little heart felt a feeling that you didn't l-like." Their scornful mew took a more insulting, puerile tone, and they unsheathed their claws, this time.
It was actually kind of... funny to watch Smokestep, they found. Would his so-called loyalty only let him fray ever so slightly at the edges, or would they have to cause an altercation? They didn't know, couldn't tell, and the intoxicating song of adrenaline, adrenaline, adrenaline rose up within them. Although he had sat down now, they itched for some sort of fight-- they weren't sure how Riverclan's leader would react, (Perhaps he wouldn't even have to hear about it; they hoped he didn't.)but the huge tomcat just rubbed Creekgaze the wrong way.
Their tail lashed, their eyes promising no easy way out, but they stood almost as still as he did, waiting for the tom to make his next move.

Smokestep snarled seeing her unsheathed claws. "Do you really want a fight?" His tail lashed angrily at seeing her smug expression. "You really do then." The smoke grey male just shook his head. "I won't fight you. Clanmates show loyalty and fighting isn't right." Trying to keep calm he forced his neck fur to lie flat and his tail again laid in front of his paws. He shook his eyes, trying to get the fire to die down. At last he looked at Creekgaze again. "Don't push me," was all he said.

Creekgaze snorted once more at what this warrior thought was trash talk; it was starting to get sad at this point, but they would do what they decided and push him further than he was willing to go as he did to them. A guttural snarl rose from their throat as he denied them of their prize-- if he was not to give it to them, they would take it themself.
Clanmates show loyalty, he said. Fighting isn't right, he said. They shook their head sharply, not in denial of these 'truths' but to clear their own mind. The only things they lived and would die by was their own claws and the cats they loved: it was only a matter of time before they were gone, and they chalked it down to mere coincidence that they were born into the Clan's atmosphere. There was no reason to stay aside from convenience and so-called responsibility. The things Smokestep said sounded invariably naive-- the younger feline could not believe that this tom was about double their age.
"Starclan, you're insufferable," they breathed, and reared back, sliding into a crouch moments before springing at him, claws now outstretched. Despite their lack of wholly accurate hearing, Creekgaze was only too sure their aim would hold true. You didn't have to hear where you were going to know you were about to hit something.

Smokestep saw the she-cat come flying at him and he fast realized it was too late. The heavy tom was sitting down, Creekgaze already in the air. He let out a hiss as she landed, her claws digging into his shoulders. With a snarl at the pain he lifted a paw and using her momentum he helped her over his shoulder and he spun around fast, but crouched down snarling. "Don't do that!" His claws remained sheathed as he slowly stalked toward her.

[ sorry about the length ;; ]
They made an annoyed sound, but remained undaunted, approaching him again and making no rush to try once more. Lowering themself back down onto the ground, their belly-fur flattened against the grass, they hissed, "Pathetic." He wouldn't even fight back? This certainly was an unsuprising development, they'd admit, but they would try again-- Creekgaze wasn't one to give up so easily. Watching him as he too began to approach, the enby's ear twitched as they threw themself at him again, this time simply aiming for the eyes; they were settling for second best, now.

{Mine are short as well so its fine}
This time Smokestep wasn't prepared and he spun around as her claws graced just above his eyes. Closing one eye, where blood fell down, he again pushed closer to Creekgaze, this time his claws out. He hissed, feeling the blood still dripping, now down his cheek. He crouched and with his front paw he lashed out hoping to catch the she-cat unaware.

Well, If it happened again, he was ready, and he wasn't going to cover up with his flirting. Well, if she talked back as in really talked back, as in, no excuses talked back. "This, Is off limits." he heard her say. The tom couldn't help but purr in amusement. Her being off limits? Wouldn't she have told him to leave by now? Especially when Mudtuft would probably not respect that? Because he liked her more than he liked his normal flirts, he decided to try and respect it. He couldn't make any promises though. That was also what he decided. No promises, but I'll try. That was exactly what he was going to do. Plus, if he was going to give her a "lesson", wouldn't he have to touch her with his tail tip to help her with her posture? That's what mentors did. He wasn't her mentor. But she had agreed to a "lesson", with him.

The silver-grey feline almost felt herself pull back. Ah, he had that look in his eyes...almost as if he was about to become mad. What Chrysanthemumshade found fun and games, perhaps he did not. The small feline felt herself shiver at the slightest. Any cat that was more muscular and bigger than she was, always had that effect on her. She had to watch what she said. On the other hand, the feline felt violated. She didn't like to be touched-- at all. Nor, did she like to flirt. Especially if she wasn't the one initiating the flirting. Then again, she wasn't introduced to his ways. Or, whatever his beliefs were. Every cat was the same in her eyes, yet they all were very different. Some became angrier more than others. Some became friendlier than others. It was just hard to see which cat they were gonna be. Though, she became untensed, still lightly shivering whenever she was near this tom, but clearing her throat from her sudden silent state, she flicked her ears back. "I wasn't scolding you. I was just making sure you understood my comfort level." Her voice was soft, hoping that she didn't sound too mean or bossy with him. Or, in any way that he would find offensive. The she cat figured he could stare all he wanted, but touching? That's where she drew the boundaries. She didn't have a large trust in toms, even if they were in her own clan. Plus, he had purred. Like she was being amusing. Did he think this was a game? Of course. This had to be a game. And, she was a pawn that he caught. Like she had been in the wrong place at the wrong time. But, now she couldn't get out of it. She would have to deal with this, so she walked alongside Mudtuft. It oddly gave her a sense of protection since she wasn't alone anymore. And, that was good. "So," she hummed lightly, trying to keep pace with him despite the small height of her legs. "What's the first lesson, hm? I'd imagine you to be a good mentor." Yes, compliments. Compliments were good. Every tom liked to be complimented, right? Of course, obviously. Though she somewhat figured that he may have liked her already. But, did he actually "like" her? As in the way, she wanted him to like her? Maybe, he just found it fun to play with her. If this was his type of fun, Chrysanthemumshade didn't want any part of it. She didn't know him personally well, but she hoped to at least get a good friend.

Swallowheather gave a slight glance towards her sister, wondering if the grey and white she cat was having a good time, but when her eyes slid over to Minnowblossom, she seemed downcasted. In a deep trance of some sort. This made Swallowheather roll her eyes. As if trying to say; Hey! Look up! I'm helping you out here! But Minnowblossom seemed to be so out of it. The she cat sharply turned her gaze over towards Cardinalflash. A bit touchy, aren't you? She provided him a smirk, hidden mischief behind it. This tom never stopped, did he?
Well, that was alright. Swallowheather wasn't the one to admit that she was uncomfortable. In fact, it was the complete opposite. Which was odd. She didn't mind a little touching game, but in the end, she always figured she would win. Judging that the tom felt he had the upper hand, she knew he was longed from it. So, as he protectively curled his tail around her in a manner, the she cat took her own tail, as if to intertwine with the tom who was too close for comfort. She slithered her tail around his, and tried to pull it from around her. Just to limply throw it down somewhere. More so, gently. She didn't want to hurt him. “How sweet! I bet Mimi will love her new nickname.” She didn't even bother to acknowledge his compliment towards himself. She actually tried to keep herself from laughing. From coming into hysterics!
“But, don't you think you're a little too close?” She told him, keeping her voice lightened. “I mean, I just met you and all. How am I supposed to know you're not some type of serial killer or something?” Her eyes glimmered at him with playfulness. A tom like C-flash must had been far from being a serial killer. Although he probably was a murderer of hearts. The she cat had to admit that he was handsome, but he continuously threw her off whenever he had to mention it. Every. Single. Time. It was something that Swallowheather picked up, and definitely found annoying. It was one thing to be handsome, but it was another to always brag about your looks. Good grief! Did he ever allow anyone to catch a break?
His brother, however had interested the she cat. She felt that she could finally work on her Cupid skills. Her loving skills. Her matchmaking skills. Now, a feline like Swallow was never interested in the field of romance, but she always dreamed that a prince-- indeed, a prince would rescue her sister from craving into a life of loneliness. Minnowblossom was such an independent molly, that seemed to not need anyone. Well, not in the fairytales that Swallowheather remembered! There were always some Prince Charming and beautiful princess that needed saving. Oh no, Swallowheather knew she was far from being a damsel in distress, but Minnowblossom? Surely could use the help.
And, who would be better than Jaywhisper!? Her eyes flickered knowingly to him as she saw him get up and flash the molly a tender smile. Oh, yeah...she would definitely be doing something with them. But, what? Maybe, she was being rashed. Trying to morph her sister’s love-life. If it could be even called such. Maybe, she should start small. Even smaller. Just friends. Yes, being friends were good. That way they would become good friend, and good friends become close friends, and close friends become best friends, and best friends become...well, lovers. Right? That was easy. And, it seemed simple!
Now, only if she could shake this other tom off. Surely, Cardinalflash would get in the way of her true intentions. Tiring him out would help. Boy, could Swallowheather tire out some toms! She ran on fascination which never ended. No one could ever outdo her. And, if they did. Simple, a rematch. Because Swallowheather never liked to be outdone. But, did she love a challenge! Now… What type of challenge did C-flash like? Something to tire him out quickly? Swimming was one of them, but he didn't seem to tire out then. He looked to be a professional in the water. It occurred to Swallowheather that she could use the tom, play around with him a bit just to get some information about Jaywhisper.
After all, the slate pelted tom had to be suitable for her sister. Of course, she believed they belonged together. A match made in Starclan! But, maybe it was too good to be true. That was never good. Now, she was complicating everything by bringing obstacles into her mind. Instead, she turned to look at Jaywhisper. “Glad of you to finally join us Jaywhisper.” Her tone was light and friendly, as it always had been. “It must had been getting lonely on the other side, eh?” She purred.
Okay, so friendship was first. Friendship was the start to every relationship. Except when it came to Cardinalflash, who she figured wanted soemthing more, but she chose to ignore this. There were far more important things to tend to. Like, spending the rest of this day as something that could be remembered...but how? What would they do? It had to be strong enough where they would form a good friendship. Where they would want to spend more time together. Spend time again. And, if it was one thing that Swallowheather was good at...coming up with ideas.
“Alright, seems like we have a whole gang together,” She took it upon herself to be the leader, getting up from her cozy spot next to her sister and Cardinalflash. Swallowheather was a leader-- wasn't she? Of course she was. No way around it. She was the leader as of now. “A great group of friends in the future, am I right?” She flashed a grin at each cat, confidence an easy emotion seen within her eyes. “But, anyone up for a game? A game that is like...no other.” She raised an ‘eyebrow’ at them, hoping to pike up their interest. Playing games always made new friends. And, Swallowheather was the best at inventing games to play. Plus, who wouldn't love a good game? If combining teams and dangerous obstacles would be considered fun, that is.
Earlier when Minnowblossom had the tom’s attention, she felt confused. Very baffled. Very uncomfortable. She tried all her might to hold in her claws when she really wanted to scrap his mouth off. Compliments, really? Minnowblossom felt herself blushing under her fur. What molly wouldn't after being called beautiful? It was a rare occurrence for her when she received such attention. It wasn't something she normally would embrace, but her mind was so occupied on Jaywhisper. A nickname. She was trying to think up of a good one. Especially since he didn't have one. Which must had sucked, but she didn't see either way. She had a few of them, gaining a new one as this tom took a seat next to her. Minnie? Minnieblossom? It was...peculiar. Different, yet it had a ring to it. It sounded pretty. And, if a name made anyone beautiful, she felt that she became the most beautiful she cat right then and there.
“Hmm, that's a cute name,” but she had flinched when he touched her with his tail. What type of game was he playing? Minnowblossom almost narrowed her eyes upon him, but being the classic elegance she displayed, she simply upturned her head to look at him. “Tails and paws stay to yourself, thank you very much.” As she was usually quiet and friendly, Minnowblossom became quite defensive when others seemingly mocked her. And, it seemed like this tom was doing exactly that.
All too well, her predictions came true. Swallowheather hit the tom with her tail, and he seemed to look like he was struck by a love spell since he followed after her like a lovestruck puppy. “Idiot.” She muttered, but smiled that her sister saved her life from that tom’s horrendous acts of flirting. Or, whatever he called that. She was glad he was away from her. One moment, she thought she was actually believing him, but the next? Her sister had won the ultimate prize. The grey and white cat was surprised that Jaywhisper wasn't struck by the spell either. He must had been immune. Yep, that was it.
But, back to thinking. Of a nickname, she didn't know what to call him yet. A simple name of Jay would have sufficed, but that was so simple. It was so plain. It had no special value to it. But, even if she did give him a name with a special meaning to it, it wouldn't be...special. After all, special was determined by how much the other meant to you. According to her, he was still a stranger, but his company was alright. So, why should she give him a nickname if it held sentimental value?
Then again, Cardinalflash had given her a cute nickname. Well, to her it was cute, but it didn't mean anything to her. She was pretty sure he could do better with Swallowheather’s nickname. It was a name for the moment. Yet, she just wanted to do it because it was nice. It was nice to do him a favor. Something that she figured she was doing for him.
So, yes she was deep in thought. Thinking of the low voiced tom. The tom who didn't raise his voice. The one you had to strain your ears in order to hear him. Yes, that tom. No wonder Jaywhisper was indeed given his name. It fit him well. Now, if she could play along those lines...then, viola! A new name was waiting to be formed. It was normal to use the first letter of anyone's name. For him, it was J. She had to think of a good J nickname.
Not Jay...that was very plain. Jaywhisper...J-Whisp? Maybe, that sounded good. Not good enough. Quite dumb, if she were being honest. A quiet tom...who always whispered whenever he talked. It voice was oddly comforting to her ears. She liked soft voices. Those low voices that soothed the ear.
Low...voice. Yes, Minnowblossom had established that. He had a low voice. Low...J… Minnowblossom felt that her heart almost bounced out her chest as she looked up, her breathing hitched when she saw the smile that Jaywhisper threw at her.
Wait.
It was at her?
The she cat pinned her ears to her head. She was taken off guard. Why did he smile at her? How much did she miss exactly? Because now, he was sitting next to her. And, they all were surrounding her. Why were they surrounding her? Minnowblossom didn't like being in the middle of this. He sister on one side, and the tom on the other. Although much to Minnowblossom’s displeasure, Swallowheather took it upon herself to be in front of them. As if she were their queen. The leader of them all. And, as she spoke, Minnowblossom wanted to roll her eyes. They came out here to swim, and now she wanted to play a game? Minnowblossom was so ready to leave. Just leave the group and allow the toms to have fun with her sister. Throw themselves upon her. Wasn't that what they wanted to do?
A game, huh? Minnowblossom felt the smallest of smirks placed on her maw. “Aw, come on, Swall. I know you never play games. Might as well tell us the challenge.” She wasn't up for a game. She wanted to leave, but her sister was creative when it came to her little “games” sometimes more dangerous than anything, but maybe associating herself with clan mates wouldn't be so bad. But as her eyes sought out her sister’s real gaze, she thought she could see a hint of trouble in them. Oh, no… What was this devil up to?

Mudtuft decided to ignore her thing on comfort level. He respected that, however he did have his reflexes, which weren't always great. He wanted the she-cat to know that she was safe around him, at least unless she talked back to him, or insulted his beliefs or family. Then she wasn't. But since she hadn't done much of either, she was perfectly safe from him harming her the way he saw it. Mudtuft found her amusing, and fun to tease and play around with, but she was also a nice cat in general. A strange one, which made her fun and amusing, but a nice cat. Which meant that she had earned a bit of respect from him. Not much, as it was hard to earn respect from Mudtuft. Most cats didn't want his respect. That's because they were disgraces. Chrysanthemumshade seemed nice. She wasn't a disgrace, that was for sure. He found that she was actually making him have a better stay in RiverClan. She wasn't Bristledawn, but she was nice, and she seemed as though she knew what to do to not get on his bad side, so that was good. "Can you do the hunting crouch?" Mudtuft asked, actually curious. He wasn't sure is she could do it, and even if she could, could she do it well. He hoped he wasn't offending her, but she ahd agreed to a lesson.
