Glancing over as Whispersong brought her apprentice, Hogpuddle quickly padded out of camp and out to the border. "While you're marking, keep an eye out for any prey you can catch. The Clan'll be hungry." The tomcat meowed gruffly as he began marking. Once he was finished with his section, he glanced up at the sky. Oh, they were late. Glancing over to check on his patrolmates, he padded away a little ways and quickly located and caught a rabbit. Then, he padded back and waited for the rest of them to be ready so they could head back before Twilightstar had to come out and find them herself.

(very gross, messy post, but we're like 5 days late :sweats

WHISPERSONG
————
The warrior followed after the older feline silently, keeping one eye on her apparentice. Perhaps it wasn’t the best idea to bring Slatepaw out for hunting and a patrol after the chaos that had occurred, but perhaps it would be a good distraction. She nodded to Hogpuddle in response to his instructions. “Cmon Slatepaw, I’ll show you what to do.

The lilac molly sniffed the air, located the border easily by the semi-foreign scent of Thunderclan. “Smell that? That’s Thunderclan. You’ll be able to recognize all the clan smells soon enough, but for now pay attention to this one and make sure not to cross the border.” The instructions were hurried, but they were running behind. Whispersong made a mental note to take Slatepaw out for a more thorough patrol when things quieted down. Approaching the border, she began marking, rubbing her pelt against the trunks of trees and sweeping her tail over lower bushes. Occasionally, she checked over her shoulder to see if Slatepaw was catching on.

Unfortunately, she didn’t notice any prey nearby. Perhaps the scent of the smoke had driven it all underground and into hiding, like it had with Windclan. So when she was finished, Whispersong simply padded back to Hogpuddle to wait with him for the others.

@ophelia @jupiter

Slatepaw padded closely behind Whispersong, her gaze was wide with anxiety as they approached the border to mark everything. She breathed in the scent of ThunderClan, noting it before looking at her mentor with a nod. "I g- got it," she spoke softly then proceeded to follow the patrol. She mimicked what Whispersong started doing as they marked the border.

When they all met up after, Slatepaw looked at Hogpuddle with awe. "Nice catch! They'll be happy to see that!" she exclaimed, seeming to get over her anxiety for a brief moment to appreciate the catch.

**Blackfir**

For the last moon, a suspicion had wormed its way into Blackfir's mind. Petalflight had been distant and so frequently tired. He went into the den with her every night and woke to her beside him so her exhaustion didn't make sense to him. She'd worked even harder as an outsider than she was expected to in the clan so he knew it couldn't be the workload. A quarter moon ago, he'd been woken from a restless sleep to Petalflight standing from her nest and leaving. He had gotten no sleep that night until Petalflight returned near dawn. Every night since then he'd taken to a routine of going into the den with Petalflight and falling into a light, pretend sleep, keeping his attention directed at the nest beside him. For so many days he was beginning to think he'd been imagining everything, until now. He'd felt her eyes on him after she rose from her nest in the dead of night and then her presence was gone. His heart sank but he was ready this time, so he rose silently and followed her scent as it led him out of camp and in a straight line for the Windclan border. Dread filled him as the border approached. Her scent grew stronger and stopped inside of a small clearing on the border. He moved cautiously through the bushes, taking care to keep himself downwind as the breeze was blowing off the moorland and into the trees of Thunderclan territory. He crouched down where he could see Petalflight crouched in the little clearing and he waited. When she finally stood, he became instantly aware of the scent of Windclan, strong and unmistakable. His pelt bristled and panic for Petalflight settled in. Until his amber eyes turned to her and she showed clear anticipation. It was a look he'd never seen before, it was a true show of emotional happiness, and it shook everything he knew and felt. She knew the Windclanner was there but she welcomed the approach. He felt nauseous. Could he really be so hypocritical though? He'd been meeting her at the border for moons before she joined. But this was different, this wasn't an outsider and it clearly wasn't a friendship. Blackfir recognized the look on Petalflight's face because it reflected perfectly what he felt every time he'd looked at her. He wanted to leave, to turn and pretend he never saw anything, to pretend this was all a bad nightmare. He wanted it to not be true, he'd never wanted for anything so desperately in his life. But then he saw the tom walk out of the underbrush and a sudden surge of rage washed through him so strong, so consuming, he could hardly see straight. Without putting a second thought into where his paws were taking him, he pounced, bursting through the brush. He felt Petalflight's green eyes on him but he couldn't look at her, he couldn't let her see the hurt in his eyes, couldn't let the sight of her loosen his courage to face the tom who'd stolen Petalflight from him, from Thunderclan.

He hissed to drown out the words Petalflight started to say, "Intruder!"

Then he didn't wait for anything to be corrected as he lunged for the Windclanner, claws glinting in the moonlight. He yowled, slamming into the tom and slashing out. He felt his claws connect with the tom's shoulder but then he was immediately met by a bite piercing into his own shoulder. He screeched with the pain but kept slashing, kept advancing. His claws flailed but another searing pain struck across his face, tearing the flesh and blinding his left eye. He pounced into the air, landing on top of the other warrior, digging his claws down into the spotted yellow pelt. He dropped his head and bit into the tom's scruff but the warrior lurched beneath him and rolled until Blackfir found himself under the Windclnner's body weight, blows rained down over his flanks. He put little into his own defense but rather continued striking out in front of him, feeling his claws snag through thick fur and the occasional rip of flesh. He kicked out with his back legs and got a solid hit against the warrior's belly, tearing scratches into his belly and successfully driving him off. Blalckfir rolled to his paws and flipped around to face his enemy but he was met instantly by a flying paw that caught him squarely across his throat. He didn't feel the pain, only the wetness that soaked into his chest. And then he was on the ground, staring at the reddened orange paws of his demise. Concern flashed across his vision, Petalflight... She'd be on her own now. Panic flared, selfish panic, the panic of death, and then, before the panic could even surface, everything settled into darkness.

**Petalflight**
[OPEN]

In that final moment, before Pignut had disappeared, she'd felt her promise to meet him to be true. She still couldn't imagine never seeing Pignut again but then her eyes caught Blackfir's body once more and she was starkly reminded how complicated everything just became. But then she was left alone in the clearing with Blackfir, dead and bleeding on the border. She lingered, unsure how she'd handle everything that was to come. Blackfir was an active and positive presence in Thunderclan, her only connection had been him. He'd pulled her into the clan, made a place for her, after her life as an outsider, but now her link had been killed, had been killed by the paws of her forbidden would-be mate. She couldn't carry him back to camp but she also couldn't leave him out here. Burying him in the clearing that she and Pignut had shared for moons felt unjust, but then the clearing had now been ruined for her as his blood continued to stain the grass around his body. She also couldn't get away with not reporting this, it'd get found out sooner or later. But what would come of reporting such a death?

His eyes carrying to blackfir then to petalflight with sharp focus.

Windclan daring to kill a thunderclan cat, how they are bold to attack a thunderclan cat. Certainly both leaders will hear about this scene and no doubt Stormclaw will go and tell thrushstar about this. what was the purpose anyway. The tom stayed on his side of the border but kept a good sharp eye

GENTLEDOE
messy-furred brown she-cat with heterochromia.
she/her

Gentledoe didn't leave the camp too often- at least, not before this. She hadn't felt a need to before. Why leave the camp when you can stay inside and bask in sunshine with a lovely nap? But she needed to be sure the territory was safe. Find materials to reinforce the camp walls, perhaps search for prey or more herbs, and patrol the borders to ensure they were safe.

As she approached the ThunderGlade, though, she could tell it wasn't particularly safe. With a small mouse in her jaws, Gentledoe rushed over at the sound of a yowl, bursting through the trees to happen upon the clearing. Three cats were there, with one appearing to have heard the screeching just as she did. Ah... how dreadful of a sight it was. The lifeless form of Blackfir had her shaking her head, setting down the mouse and bounding up to the others.

"Ah, Stormclaw, darling, were you here to see what had happened? Please, sheathe your claws. We do not need more bloodshed. One tragic death is more than enough, I'm afraid." She spoke softly, carefully. This was a rather troublesome situation, yes, but she must not jump to conclusions so quickly. While there was a strong scent of WindClan surrounding Blackfir's body, she could only pray it was due to him being so close to the border. Oh dear, oh dear. Every option as to what had happened was not the most enjoyable, really.

Closing her eyes and taking a deep breath, Gentledoe attempted to work out the logic in her head, opening her eyes to look between Blackfir and Petalflight.

"Petalflight, love, I will give you one chance to explain yourself. This must be reported regardless, but I will allow you to decide how. Please do choose your words carefully," she commanded, voice hardening into a serious tone though her expression remained calm, "Stormclaw, you will step back and allow Petalflight to explain herself. Am I understood, dear?" If the safety of her Clan was at risk, she could not take it lightly. But words were better than immediate action- Gentledoe would much rather allow a conversation to take place before claws were extended.

"Go on."

Darkpetal heard a yowl near Thunderglade. Noticing Blackfir's body as well as Petalflight, Stormclaw, and Gentledoe. "What happened here?" he asked his clanmates. "Was WindClan responsible for this death or did one of you kill Blackfir?" His yellow eyes diverted to the WindClan side of the border. "Let's report this to Thrushstar."

**Petalflight**
@lio @Queen_Coral @Octavia

Her face was flat, emotionless, but her mind was reeling. She couldn't place her thoughts, much less her emotions. She'd always been so adept at reading her own thoughts, even deducing so much of what other cats were thinking based on observation alone, but emotions had always been a foreign thing to her, no logic or reasoning seemed to accompany them. And now, Blackfir lay dead. Her friend since she was a young outsider, her only friend for so many moons. And now he was gone, so quickly, and by the claws of the tom who'd been brought here by her own will and actions. This was her fault, she could find no way around that other than to blame Blackfir for following her. But that had been Blackfir, of course he would've followed her if he'd thought she was going out to potential danger. It was one of the traits that had always bothered her, and endeared her, about him. He was overbearing and smothering, treating her like she was a strong, capable cat on her own, she hadn't needed protecting, but that was just who Blackfir had been. She knew that about him so she really couldn't find it in her to blame him for doing exactly what she would've expected from him.

Then her green eyes were torn from Blackfir's body with a clearly unveiled threat. Her head turned sluggishly to face the Thunderclan warrior who'd confronted her. She knew she recognized him but she'd never made much of an effort to learn and memorize all of her clanmates names, though it'd been four moons since she'd taken the name Petalflight and joined Blackfir in his clan. It dawned on her though when another voice spoke his name from somewhere beside him. She was only distantly aware of the approach through the undergrowth. Stormclaw and.... No, she still couldn't remember the she-cat's name off the top of her head and then another Thunderclanner appeared, Darkpetal. Why does that one come to me? She couldn't rationalize why getting their names right felt so important all of a sudden in that moment, it seemed like the least important thing. Could she even be sure she'd still have a place among them? Did she still want a place among them?

Regardless what came next, her own survival counted on her responding, and how. She hadn't fought to make it this far to have her life end here... But when she opened her mouth to speak, at first all she accomplished was a shake of her head toward Stormclaw, No, of course I didn't kill him, I wouldn't! But her eyes switched back to the she-cat who had asked for her explanation, though her kindness was very clearly measured and guarded. "I did not kill him." But could she explain further? She couldn't say why she was out here, why he had followed her; what these clanborn cats thought of her meeting with a cat from another clan was of no real concern to her but it'd open so many more opportunities to drag this deeper than it needed to go, along with potentially throwing Pignut under Thunderclan's ire. She stumbled over the words circling in her mind to give them an answer they'd accept enough to move on with whatever they felt needed to happen next. In the end, she realized she couldn't, she'd never had a way with words and now was the time she'd get herself into trouble with more words than less. "The fault is mine, but I did not kill him."

Stormclaw unsheathed his claws and settled down a little to listen to petalflight and the others. most questions came through his head as he carefully picked which one to ask or say. His eyes carried firmly at the 3 cats, it didn't seem right at all, how could Blackfir die if Petalflight say she didn't kill him. it was a big mystery the tom could not unravel in his brain.

The tom studied more closely to petalflight as she talked. harder to say if Petalflight was lying or actually telling the truth. Was her words true or a lie, if only he could tell."My curious Question is how could Blackfir die if you didn't do it Petalflight. No one was around other than you, so I'm very confused of how Blackfir died" he replied with a conused tone. The tom then turned to Darkpetal with a small nod of the idea of reporting this to Thrushstar, certainly Thrushstar will want to know about this.

Mothdapple

After no sight of Softsky at the clearing,Mothdapple decided to head out and wait for her companion closer to the Thunderglade. That way she could start with the scent marking while waiting. The tortoiseshell she-cat started rubbing her flank against the trees along the border, making sure her scent would really stick to them.
