"Right, there ya two beauts are," the herbalist purred as both Dustbunny and Rabbitpaw approached her, a grin on her maw as she tried to keep the spirits up.
Not a lot of other volunteers had cropped up. Actually, no volunteers had come over when she'd called for cats forward. Well, too bad. They were now operating under random selection, and anyone who didn't pull their own weight were going to be demoted for a month and given tunneler duty by Crowtooth himself. Or maybe they could do den cleaning duty. Stars knew she had some soiled nests in her private chambers that were not adequate for patients anymore. She'd consider what to do later, though. For now, Lightningstorm could at least hope things would get done. It was just as much for the safety as it was for the mental well being of the clan, after all.
"Snowybreeze, Autumnwhisper, Lionscar, Fleetpaw! Get your arses over here," she called, her voice light but carrying an evident tone of command to it.
There was an emergency, and as such, there was no time to sit around all day. She had herbs and dens to clear up and take care of after this as well... just in case everything did go south, StarClan forbid. The massive, white furred tom was quick to approach, having evidently just left his devilish daughter in the nursery with her littermates. At the tilt of his head, she turned towards Dustbunny and Rabbitpaw. Yes, she had grabbed help for them. They could not try this endeavor alone. However, once she divvyed up the teams, they were on their own. She trusted both of them more than herself, their knowledge when it came to digging and everything that it entailed far greater than hers.
"Dustbunny and Rabbitpaw, you are each going to take a small team and start at opposing edges of the cliff, close to where the walls of the camp are built, and dig a wide trench around the camp. I trust you both know better than me when it comes to these things, but leave some room between the camp and the trench if possible, and pile the dirt around like a wall. The hope is that these fires are taken care of before anything drastic happens, but we are going to need to protect the camp best we can if the worst happens.
You are free to grab more cats if you need them, 'course. Dustbunny, I want you with Snowybreeze and with Fleetpaw. Rabbitpaw, you'll be digging with Lionscar and Autumnwhisper. Remember, make the trenches wide and with nothing but dirt in 'em. We want to make it so the fire has nothing to latch on to on the way to camp, but we also want to make sure everyone can escape if necessary."
Her own words perking up her ears, Lightningstorm's whiskers twitched, nodding at the two felines, staying behind only enough time to answer any questions they might have before rushing towards Twilightstar once more. She knew what Crowtooth had said. About her being in charge while Twilightstar was still recovering from her birth and he was out fighting fires... but had anyone figured out a safe way out of the camp? They had discovered where the fires were, which was perfect... it left the smartest location to take shelter in an obvious choice. But it would be wise to scout ahead. Ensure the swiftest route was still safe.
That said, only a featherbrain would leave the camp alone without telling the leader about her plans. Should she also inform Dapplebreeze? With Crowtooth and Batglare both out fighting fires, that left her as the next senior officer and most viable second in command, did it not? She could see the patched molly take a step towards her, as if alert and awaiting command despite her otherwise relaxed demeanor. With a twitch of her tail, she kept the lieutenant at bay... for now. If Twilightstar disagreed with her idea, she might instead offer to send the fury out in her stead, trusting her to keep a level head while ensuring the path was safe for the clan to take.
"Twilightstar... A word?" she mewed as she approached, eyes shining with urgency.
"I have placed two separate teams to begin digging trenches around the camp. Dustbunny and Rabbitpaw are at the head of them, I doubt we'll have anything to worry about with them in charge. Was thinking about leaving the camp for a bit, though... I think the falls would be a natural place to fall back to if we need to run, but I wanted to make sure the path is safe. I know the lay of the land and I am quick of my feet. Can make it there and back again before you lot even miss me," she mewed, a purr rumbling in the back of her throat as she made light of the situation, preferring to perhaps not to give the new queen yet another thing to fret about.

| If I accidentally picked someone who is already in one of the fire fighting or suppressing patrols, please let me know and I will switch you right out! I did try and double check but I can promise it would be an Alchemist mistake, not a Lightningstorm one. |

Lightningpaw would hear Twilightstar call his name and would understand he would be part of the suppressor team. Lightningpaw really wished he didn't have to get dirty but if it was to protect Windclan he would do just that hell he would roll around in the mud if it meant protecting Windclan. Lightningpaw saw Vinepaw approach him and would nod a greeting. Vinepaw was always a bundle of nervous energy even if he attempted to hide it. But he was also kind and reliable enough. "Nervous? Nah as long as we have Twilightstar and Crowtooth we'll be fine! Plus Windclan always bands together when times get hard. It's what makes us such a great clan. I have faith we'll pull through this well enough." Lightningpaw would meow to Vinepaw licking his paw and running it over his ears. Lightningpaw would then look over to Vinepaw and ask. "So do you know what I'm going to be doing? Is it like essentially digging a hole or?..." Lightningpaw asked the Tunneler Apprentice Lightningpaw unlike many of his friends wasn't training or did train as a Tunneler instead he was a Moore Runner Warrior in training. Meaning Lightningpaw wasn't used to the whole digging thing. That was more Vinepaw and Rabbitpaw's shtick. @Tallstar @Badwolf @Fish @Undertaker @ChaosBringer.

"I hope I helped enough.." He fretted to the molly. "I just.. don't know what to do now..."

Re: Smothered in its cradle [CLANWIDE EVENT]
Batkit glanced around as the older cats left camp; she felt like bolting herself, though she knew that wasn't safe. And of course she knew that the healer had instructed them to leave. That meant that someone was doing something...
Shivering, she crouched down in the nursery and watched the other kits as the warriors darted around camp. The sky was orange. Oh stars...
Duckthroat looked over to where Maggotpaw was and gave a small smile it was nice to see the young apprentice actually doing its duties he stood up he chuckled slightly he hadn’t heard his name sang since his apprentice days when his old friend had done it they had joined starclan many many moons ago though the memories were nice he turned his attention back to Maggotpaw and leopardpaw he recognized the young she cat though it had been a while “It’s good to see ya again I know we haven’t em formally met so to speak” he said while flicking his tail he glanced over to fidgetberry he had some experience with blind cats he had encountered many though it never stopped him from feeling slightly sorry especially for a young apprentice
When Fidgetberry had joined them he scooter over allowing her to be next to him he turned his attention back to Maggotpaw but before he could speak again. It’s mentor approached “evening Whisperinghive I would say the weather is nice but I’d be lying” he then gave a nod and turned back to Maggotaw “you’ll be a good apprentice no need to worry about me and fidgetberry I’ve seen a few fires in my days”he says while licking a paw
Maggotpaw ushers the elders up and together, circling like a little livestock guardian. Let the rest worry about the fire or the kits or the maybe-evacuation or waking up anyone who's still napping at a time like this—Maggotpaw has everything it's concerned about corralled together right here, and it would be perfectly content were its mentor not determined to go and be a hero, a brave warrior, and offer himself up to do something stupid like—like go help with the fire. Outside of camp. The fire that kills cats. Maggotpaw blinks in shock. How stupid even is Whisperinghive? He can't go! He has to stay right here! Maggotpaw's jaw tightens and a steady, muffled growl of complaint rattles in its chest. Nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnno you can't do that it's stupid! I told you to help me or I'll chew you to pieces! Stars, does it have to go and make good on that threat? Whisperinghive looks hard to chew.
Ultimately, Maggotpaw stows its protests. It doesn't want Leopardpaw and the elders to see it get upset and then treat it like a naughty kitten even though it knows that it is right about this being a stupid thing to do.
"Well, Whisperinghive, you behave for Leechscar!" It shoots back hotly, flashing a withering look past the ginger tom and over at the Fury whose patrol he'd been assigned to. Despite it all, Maggotpaw does expect their stupid, mean, scratched-up mentor to return safely and in one piece. Maggotpaw hates having a mentor, but it'll despise needing a replacement. And anyway, Whisperinghive can't nap with Maggotpaw and Leopardpaw if he goes out and dies, and that's cheating. Suspicion prickles Maggotpaw's nape. Whisperinghive had better not be trying to cheat.
"Whisperinghive is orange, did you know? Did you ever see him? And he has a scratched up face. Only not like your scratched up face. His is bad." Maggotpaw offers in an aside to Leopardpaw, rambling this so that it doesn't have to think about how mad it is that Whisperinghive is misbehaving. "And he looks like a running-cat, not a digging-cat. He's skinny. He's going to go and help other cats now and not us, so that means I'm extra in charge now. I think we're all still staying put still, but Twilightstar and Crowtooth and Lightningstorm are sending cats around places to do something about the fire." It explains, watching far braver braver cats than it dash around in accordance with their instructions. "You should sit by Fidgetberry because she wants to know about your eyes."
Maggotpaw casts another long, skeptical look around the camp. It's never seen cats all organized and busy like this before. When this is all over, probably everybody is going to take a good, long nap, just like how Maggotpaw has planned. Thin ears twitch as it briefly occurs to Maggotpaw that its mother has long since been taken out camp to help hunt the fires down, and she hasn't yet returned. Gold eyes flick briefly toward the entrance of camp...then away, impassive and unworried. Oh, well. It fixes a significantly brighter look back on its sister and its elders. Duckthroat's saying that Maggotpaw's a good apprentice. They don't entirely approve, but being called good is always nice, so Maggotpaw squeezes out a rusty, enthusiastic purr.
"Duckthroat, if we have to start going someplace can you watch Fidgetberry? And I'll watch Leopardpaw?" While they're still under orders to not go anywhere unless it's out to fight fires, Maggotpaw wants to make sure that they, the elders, and Leopardpaw all have a plan in place for if they do need to leave. And while Maggotpaw considers everyone in this bunch to be under its care, it doesn't know if it can guide two blind cats at once...anyway, it'll be easier if Duckthroat wants to help, too. Maggotpaw imagines Duckthroat's probably helped Fidgetberry out before, anyway.
"Leopardpaw and Fidgetberry, if we have to go is that going to be scary to you?" It asks. If someone asked Maggotpaw to close its eyes and go walk out into a territory on fire then Maggotpaw would, in true Maggotpaw fashion, threaten to stomp them into a hundred tiny pieces and then maybe start screaming, but some cats might just get scared instead. It wants to know this now, because scared-cats move slow and sometimes don't move at all.
Fidgetberry ambled out of the elders den, following the sound of Maggotpaw’s voice. When the blind elder got there, she meowed to Leopardpaw “you alright love? I heard Maggotpaw screeching about your eyes. How bad are they scratched up?”

Whisperinghive felt the ash blow away, and the freeze thaw out in relief as Maggotpaw accepted his offer of a nap, his tail tip calming down. "I promised. I don't and will not break a promise." He said, walking out of the apprentice's den with his apprentice. Leopardpaw? The warrior vaguely remembered the meeting where Leopardkit became Leopardpaw. It was great that Maggotpaw liked this cat. They'd keep it grounded and level-headed. Well, as level-headed a cat like Maggotpaw could get.... DEAR STARCLAN— WHAT HAPPENED?! Scratches littered Leopardpaw's eyes like the blood and bodies littered a battlefield. Maggotpaw was going on its usual rant of how it was the boss and it would protect the cat he liked. Whisperinghive had seen it happen with Duckthroat, and he had a feeling he'd be seeing it a lot as Maggotpaw's training continued if the chaos and turmoil continued as well. Annnnddd there were the threats. "I'll make sure you all get to someplace safe, then I'll have to leave to help out with Crowtooth." He said, but his words were quickly covered up by Maggotpaw's. The scorch was starting to return, and Whisperinghive was so ready to scream at someone.
"Hey, Duckthroat." Whisperinghive greeted, his ears and tail twitching softly. It was so loud in the camp. Much too loud. And Maggotpaw wasn't helping one bit with its yapping. At Crowtooth's call for volunteers, the orange warrior almost immediately bounded over, but he stopped himself. "Maggotpaw. You behave for Leopardpaw and the elders." Whisperinghive growled before bounding over to Crowtooth and the group of warriors around the deputy. He might not come back from this. The fires could spread too much and circle him and burn him. But that was the life of a warrior, and Whisperinghive would sacrifice himself until Starclan welcomed him to their grounds.

Leopardpaw heard Fidgetberry ask if she was alright. "Oh, I'll be okay." She said "Just gotta get use to it. Definitely blind, though."
Whisperinghive seemed to have went off to help, maybe, hard to tell, after saying some words, and then Duckthroat was speaking.
"Nice to, ah..." well not see, that's for sure "hear you?"
She really hoped she was actually facing Duckthroat. If not, that would be really embarrassing.
Maggot had said some words back at Whisperinghive, telling him to behave for Leechscar.
And then they're describing Whisperinghive to Leopardpaw. "I think I've seen him once or twice, maybe." It was only a guess based on description, cause she'd never really interacted with him until today.
Maggotpaw was then talking about how it's extra in charge now since Whisperinghive isn't here, and how she should sit by Fidgetberry.
Leopardpaw has to guess where Fidgetberry is based on when the older cat spoke before, and is a little bit away still when she sits down.
She sure doesn't realize that though.
She's not a big fan of heavy supervision like she's a baby, but she gets it.
She can't see and she hasn't adjusted to where she can guide herself or something yet.
A rounded ear twitches as Maggotpaw asks if her or Fidgetberry would be scared. "Me? Afraid?" Leopardpaw has decided to put on her usual cheerful confidence, no matter how afraid she truly is "Nope!"
Bouncepaw nods. He was ready for this, ready to help his Clan. He glances awkwardly at Lightningpaw, not quite knowing what to say. He didn't know the other cat very well. In the end he settles for a greeting nod.
