Brokenstream padded up to the entrance of the new leader’s den. Before calling out, the tom took a moment to take the new camp in. Everything was new…but maybe it was time for change. Change can be good. ”Come along now, Soaringpaw.” He beckoned the outsider. Lifting his head high, he called out to Stormstar before entering her den. ”Dusklion- er, ‘Star?-, I bring news.” He meowed, blinking to let his eyes adjust to the dim light. Walking forward he almost ran into the dark-furred she-cat. He jumped back, his eyes bright with surprise. ”Sorry! It’s a bit dark in here.” He joked awkwardly, but quickly cleared his throat. ”Anyways…
”I found a rogue at the border. She’s the size and age of an apprentice and was clearly unable to care for herself on her own for much longer.” He reported as he took a sit in front of the dep- no, new leader. ”Her name is ’Sora’, but she’s willing to take on the name ’Soaringpaw’ and learn what it is like to live with a Clan. He cast a glance over his shoulder. ”Sora, come in here please.” Hopefully the other apprentices would be nice to the former outsider should Dusklion approve. ”With your permission to fully accept her, I think she would make a fine addition to the Clan. She has some spunk in her I think RiverClan would appreciate.” The bengal mewed, whiskers twitching in amusement.

Brokenstream is RiverClan’s Head Lionheart - If You Need Him, Mention Me

Having taken to shaping up the... well, sort of nest in her den, Stormstar blinked and turned around to find Wavebreaker entering, coming to stand before you. It seemed a lot of Clanmates were set on coming to talk to her after returning - not that she minded. "Not a burden," she spoke in the middle of a yawn, drawing her ears back. "Sorry, long night."
Twisting around to give Wavebreaker her full attention, she nodded. "What's on your mind?" She hoped it wasn't more problems that had been caused while she and Berries had been away, or while she had been out looking for her brother, but at least she knew she now had more authority to handle them without worry of retaliation from her brother.
Wavebreaker
|43 Moons|
Wavebreaker eyes rose to the nest as his leader tuned to greet him properly, a yawn following fast on the heels of her motion. He felt grateful for her efforts, being in charge of so many cats and all their concerns was no small feat. "Thank you." The warrior eased his stance sitting up fully now, and didn't bother explaining his gratitude. He was sure Dusklion understood what he meant. The toms dark blue eyes drifted to the corners of his face trying to recall the situation with Goldfish that had occurred just before the arrival to their new camp. "Well I'm sure by now you've already heard of the incident that happened when we arrived between Goldfish, Stormpaw, Redmire, and Owltalon. I was watching from afar, but felt adding my voice to the situation would not have improved things. While concerning I actually had an incident occur prior to that situation that also involved Goldfish."
Wavebreaker shifted a little on his large paws before continuing "It was during Starrykits escape, an escape that happened right in front of me...maybe even because of me." His voice held some shame in its chords, the only solace being that Starrykit had been rescued in time. The warrior still wasn't quite sure what he and Goldenwing had done to send her running, but the result was the same regardless. "I had gone to cheer the kit up. Ever since Elderkit was taken by that hawk I felt a little closer to her, I thought maybe I could even help her work through her fears." His gaze felt far away now as his own memories poured in from the past. The image of sharp talons pulling at his fur as he struggled and screamed, going higher and higher till he had been sure he was going to join StarClan.
Wavebreaker stifled a shudder, and paused a moment before continuing. "I was taken by an owl at 4 moons, but for some reason StarClan saw fit that I should survive." The black tomcats did his best to bury a creeping guilt that crawled through his spirit. His eyes filled with resolve again as his mind returned to the present, "Goldenwing and I brought her some food and Starrykit bolted while my back was turned, the emergency exit of the nursery was to small for me and I became stuck. By the time I got free and sent Goldenwing to track her she was already to far away. I attempted to organize a patrol but no cat answered quickly enough and I was forced to follow after Goldenwings scent trail." He let his jaw rest for a moment, taking a breath, then continuing. "I arrived in the marshes to find that Goldfish, Poppyburst, and Floodsight were already executing a rescue plan, and I was on the opposite bank. Rather than dashing over and distracting them from their task I decided it would be better to calm Starrykit who was thrashing in the mud causing her to sink faster. I called out to her to relax, that help was coming and if she stopped moving it would help her rescuers."
The tom carefully modulated his voice to leave out any irritation from the result of the moments, or any accusatory tone. It was his leader's responsibility to judge not his. "Poppyburst seemed to ignore whatever Goldfish had been planning and threw herself into the mud on a small stick. She was able to rescue Starrykit, but I concede it seemed unnecessarily dangerous. For her actions Goldfish recused Poppyburst, and rightfully so. We can't have every cat breaking rank for what they believe to be right, especially when it might put more lives at risk." He sighed, Wavbreaker hated being the center of attention in situations like this, but he couldn't back out now. His leader needed to be aware of any issues that might affect leadership. "Goldfish then turned her attention to me with hostility, and claimed I and Goldenwing should have joined her patrol when she called for one.
She made baseless claims that I could not follow the patrols scents, when clearly I had arrived to help. I was there in camp immediately as everything happened, there was no call for a patrol. At least not one I heard, but I figured maybe she had formed one out of camp as Starrykit ran by. I didn't challenge her on it then because she is my superior, and Starrykits safety was a priority at that moment.
Goldfish seemed to think Goldenwing was with me too on site for the rescue, but she never even showed up. I just assumed she had gotten lost, she is a younger warrior after all, and we have changed territories quite a bit lately. Either way it was very disconcerting seeing Goldfish acting like Goldenwing was present." He ceased speaking for a moment, his tail swishing with simmering anxiety, unsure how his leader would handle this info. After the thoughtful pause he added "I don't really care for being unjustly chewed out but that's not what bothers me. Its the fact that her judgment seems to be to hasty lately, she seems too quick to cast blame and the latest problem with Redmire only heightened my concerns. I had no intention of bringing this up at first, but after that event. I felt you needed to know what I went through in case it ever again becomes relevant." Wavebreaker went silent letting his blue eyes fall to the floor again. He felt had covered the most important parts of the story, he didn't feel the need to prod Goldfishes decision making further. His point was made.
At least she was prompt about coming. Eyeing the warrior as she arrived, Stormstar let the silence hang for a moment. Chewing on how she wanted to go about this, she let out a small sigh. "How's trainin' goin' with Cricketpaw 'n Flamepaw?" A simple, proding question, spoken only out of curiosity. The warrior's answer would tell her how she was going to proceed.

Wavebreaker went silent letting his blue eyes fall to the floor again. He felt had covered the most important parts of the story, he didn't feel the need to prod Goldfishes decision making further. His point was made.
Another incident involving Goldfish and it had her ears flattening a bit. This was disheartening, since Stormstar did really like the other she-cat. But it seemed there had yet been another similar situation like with Redmire and Sedgeflake.
A kit escape?? Her ears shot up. How come no one had told her?? Even with the Clan being in the midst of chaos, these things were important! Unable to stop the displeased look from crossing her face at the news, the leader remained silent as Wavebreaker continued. A single ear twitched at the mention of Poppyburst, something to note for later. There was a small punch in her gut that told her there were parts of this that were a lie, but she couldn't pinpoint which one - though knew it had to do with Goldfish. She hoped... cats weren't just jumping on the bangwagon and blaming her, and stars did she hate the little white lies her Clanmates seemed to think they could get away with.
"First off," the leader stated, trying to sooth the bubbling anger she felt, "next time a kit is out of camp, someone better starsdamned tell me." No report on it. Nothing. Part of her was furious with Goldfish for not bringing it up when she called her into her den with Owls. "'M glad Starrykit is alright, though. 'M sure the grief from her sister's death is... difficult to comprehend at that age. Was thinkin' 'bout makin' her a 'paw at this meetin', but she might need more time to grieve 'n work through this than I thought..." Or maybe training would be a welcome distraction.
"Secondly, I've talked to Goldfish 'n Owltalon 'bout their rather harsh ways of discipline. Owls has always been a good Lionheart, 'n this was the first issue I'd heard with her. But Goldfish, with this bein' the second..." She sincerely hoped her talk with the Lionheart knocked some sense into her as she furrowed her brows in though. Poppyburst was another one she'd have to deal with, she couldn't have warriors putting others in danger like that. "'M hopin' to round the whole team up 'n make sure we don't have anymore of this rank-weight thrown around. Orders are to be followed, yes, but not under the circumstances of cats pullin' their rank over another - because they're orders 'n they're meant for the safety of the Clan."
Stormstar let out a long sigh and shook her head. "Thanks for comin' to me about this. I'll keep an eye on Goldfish, 'n if this behavior continues, I'll need to look for a new Lionheart to replace her." As much as it hurt, she couldn't have cats acting like how her brother used to, not her Lionhearts. She didn't want to do that with Goldfish, so she hoped the she-cat would truly take her words to heart.
[ mind reader was activated since a patrol was called here in the clearing! ]

The bulky warrior listened with perked ears, her tail neatly curled around her paws. As Stormstar went on, she was quick to realize why she was called in here and felt particularly silly for not realizing it before. Yeah, not her first tumble with Redmire, probably wouldn't be her last, but this once was genuinely disheartening. Upon hearing the context, Owltalon simply wanted to disappear, but that would do nocat any good. Disappearing was for cowards, and Owltalon sure wasn't one. If she could handle a bloody battle then she could handle the heat of guilt in her paws.
She gave Stormstar a curt nod, her eyes closing momentarily. "Nah, yer right chap. Thin's certainly coulda been handled better. I take full accountability for havin' a brain fulla bee's." She gave her ear a quick flick. There were no excuses, no good ones. Owltalon knew that she felt completely disconnected that night, so jumping on a confrontation wasn't the best idea, but it felt right in the moment, like she was actually doing something other than being completely and utterly confused like she had boulders in her stomach. "I'll seek Redmire out when I can, might chew me up, but I can take it." She gave her shoulders a shrug and a small smile flickered across her features. "Nah, I think that'd to me some good, I certainly deserve ta be chewed out, eh? Thanks chief."
She wasn't completely sure if she was allowed to leave yet without being called to, so she just sat there, wallowing in a crater made of stone, reflecting on herself until Stormstar told her to leave or she saw herself out. Either option was fine, but she'd think regardless.

Goldfish didn’t feel much better as Lioness continued talking.. but it didn’t make her feel worse. The leader didn’t berate her and beat her down as Sedgeflake had (she still was confused about what point in her original statement before Redmire shouted where she had directly blamed her on the argument, but said nothing, and showed no sign of doing so) and instead just asked for honesty. The Ace of Spades nodded along, tail-tip twitching subconsciously. She swallowed the desire to speak out as there was no point in it she knew, and her expression showed no sign of wanting to talk about the brief flash of a troubled thought in her dandelion eyes. Instead, Goldfish just added on to her previous statement. “I have a lot of faith in you, Lioness.. I trust you won’t let this clan crumble. I’m supposed to be a role model and I failed, but it won’t happen again. I want to aspire to greater things, and that’s not going to help me. I’ll apologize accordingly, and I’ve learned from my mistakes. If.. you ever need anything, I’m happy to help.” perhaps a bold statement on her behalf, but it was true.
The tortoiseshell lionheart enjoyed the company of the grayscale feline and wasn’t afraid to say it, or offer her help whenever it was needed. Riverclan would need it to help bring it back to its paws, and Goldfish was more than happy to contribute, and always would be. She didn’t forget however that she was wrong with placing the blame on both Redmire and Strongstorm. That wouldn’t change, even if everyone was passing on that she had deliberately spiked and yelled only at the spotted warrior. Come on, Goldfish. Work on that, keep it in check. Redmire is a fantastic warrior, and despite her faults it’s not hard to tell her dedication. Relax.
Lioness... That was new and earned a twitch of amusement in her whiskers. At least both cats seemed to recognize their mistakes and were able to acknowledge them. There had been a small, doubtful moment, in which Stormstar worried that the way her brother had led had gotten them both into thinking in his ways of discipline - which were rooted in unfairness and prejudice - but this conversation had made her feel a bit better.
"'M glad to hear it. We're all workin' 'n learnin' together, 'n none of us are perfect. 'Slong as we can recognize when we mess up, 'n fix it... RiverClan's got a good future ahead of itself." Stifling a yawn, Stormstar got to her paws and waved her tail. "You're both free to go. Be sure to find Redmire when you do. 'M sure she'd appreciate the apology 'specially since my brother... put a bit of a baseless target on her back."
Brokenstream padded up to the entrance of the new leader’s den. Before calling out, the tom took a moment to take the new camp in. Everything was new…but maybe it was time for change. Stormstar - RiverClan Leader
With the lull of cats visiting her den now, the leader figured now was as good of time as any to get the meeting kickstarted. Exiting her den, Stormstar let out a little 'mrrp!' of surprise at almost running into Brokenstream and - oh? Hackles rising on instinct as she narrowed her eyes at the outsider, she glanced towards the outsider. Sora, huh? Listening to the Lionheart's explanation she nodded.
"It's Stormstar, now," she corrected her Lionheart with a brief grin, before focusing her gaze on the outsider. "I assume Brokenstream's given you a run-down of Clan life? It's not easy, livin' in a Clan, but it can be rewardin' if you put the work in." Blue eyes studied the newcomer - Sora - curiously as she sat down, waiting for her answer.

Next thing I knew, Cricketpaw was gone.´´ Her tail swayed behind her. ´´I only wanted to protect her. I wouldn´t have put it past a squirrel or a rat to have attacked her then and there.´´
The obvious lack of care for her apprentices and their whereabouts made Stormstar blink, a flick of her ear the only sign of irritation. That, combined with the report Floodsight had given her, made her think more on the situation. "If you had issues with Flamepaw not showin' up, you should've come to me or a Lionheart. Why didn't you?" There was really no excuse for that; if an apprentice was refusing to train, that was something the Clan leadership needed to know about.
New news was the gathering however, and Stormstar's irritation only grew. "Floodsight reported to me that Cricketpaw has yet to learn how to hunt. Is that your idea of protectin' her, by not trainin' her properly?" Frustration flared under her pelt as her tail flopped to the other side behind her. "Gatherin's are times for apprentices to go 'n talk to other Clans, yes. It's a truce night, 'n as much as I also don't like the other Clans right now, 'm not about to limit the experiences the apprentices in this Clan can have at a gatherin', 'n I don't want any of my warriors doin' that either."
"We've got plenty of Lionhearts 'n warriors to keep watch, 'n if somethin' happens, then by all means you got every right - 'n expectation - to pull Cricketpaw out. But I want you to focus on actually trainin' her in the basics before worryin' over gatherins', or I'll find another warrior who will. Got it?" The lack of training here was the real issue. She didn't want to yank the apprentice from Rosehawk's care, because underneath all this the she-cat was a good warrior - but Stormstar wouldn't have warriors who showed such lack of care towards their apprentices as mentors in her Clan.

Well. That went easier than she had thought. Blinking once, Stormstar sighed. "I know it won't, 'cause I know you're a good warrior. That's why I was surprised when I heard that Cricketpaw hadn't learned huntin' yet." Her tone was nothing but genuine as she watched Rosehawk. "'M gonna need all the good, dependable warriors I can get leadin' this Clan back to what it used to be." With that there was nothing more really to say, so the leader nodded with her head towards the den entrance. "That was all. You're free to go."
