Slowly... slowly... and... NOW! Fallownose leaped, his paws landing squarely on the mouse, trapping it while a quick bite to the back of its neck killed it. He puffed up slightly pride, silently thanking StarClan that he hadn't utterly embarrassed himself. This event was certainly going to be fun!
Or not...
Fallownose's eyes flew open and he stalked over to where Scorchedfang was confronting two cats who shouldn't be there. He dropped the mouse, not wanting to have left it abandoned, before turning his gaze to Fallowpaw and Rabbittuft.
"Rabbittuft, the last time I saw you was when you were running into ShadowClan territory and refusing to come back because your son lived there. I'm surprised they didn't shred you, but it doesn't matter. Your loyalties clearly lie elsewhere. Get out of WindClan right now, or I'll drag you out by the tail, traitor."
He kept his yellow-amber gaze on Rabbittuft as he awaited her response, though he spoke to Fallowpaw. "Fallowpaw, you've been gone for a moon. You're to sit by Scorchedfang and not move, or else I'll be escorting you to the border where you can stay for the next half-moon. Once the event is over, you and me are gonna have a talk with Twilightstar about whether you're allowed to stay or not."
Fallowpaw was lucky in his opinion. If she was and adult, Fallownose simply would have kicked sent her back to the Outskirts for a while for daring to walk back in after being missing for a moon and acting like nothing had happened.
Hopefully Rabbittuft would listen, because he was not in the mood to deal with anything she tried. He had been trying to impress Scorchedfang, but her and Fallowpaw had to ruin it by showing up! He had to deal with this, while everyone else could continue with the event. UGH!!!
Bravebird
She/her | 42 moons | Beefed Up T3 • One with the Warren
It's not a moment or two after readjusting her paws that she felt them start to slip on the ground. The water misting from the falls must've dampened the earth and Bravebird lets out a hiss as she lashes a paw out into empty air. Unsheathing her claws she dug them into the ground and quickly slunk away from where the falls were and onto more solid ground. The last thing she wanted to do was that an impromptu swim.
She was readying herself to continue her hunt when she detected Scorchedfang and Fallownose scolding two WindClanners. Not opening her eyes, the pale-furred warrior simply chuckled under her breath and shook her head, continuing along the moors slowly. There wasn't anything to be felt, until... there. The tiniest movement under her paw had Brave slinking towards a strong smell of prey. She moved her paws along carefully, nose twitching to keep her on the scent trail. Each movement was slow and (hopefully) landed silently as she closed in...
Brightpaw gave a small squeak as she stepped down and a thorn slid in between her toes and pricked her webbing. What did I tell you! It was bound to happen.
She fought the urge to open her eyes -unsure if that would count as cheating or not- and planted her rear end firmly on the ground before feeling round her paw with her nose. Ah, there it was, firmly lodged in like a mouse in its bedding. With a grimace, Brightpaw peeled back her lips and tried to grip the thorn with her teeth. Fighting back the little jolts of pain every time she touched it and... There! That was so much better. She gave her pad a few good licks, then set off in search of her scent trail... Aand she couldn't find it. StarClan curse that stupid thorn! Drawing her lips in disappointment, the tan-and-white she-cat set off in search of a new train, stepping even softer than before. I'm not stepping on anymore thorns.
Ah, that was the scent of a bird! Brightpaw began stalking toward it.

"And that, my friends, is how a revolution dies." - Haymitch
"AHA! Take that you old fart"The warrior thought victoriously as she caught a shrew, savoring its taste for just a moment. Victory never tasted so sweet. She secretly sent a thankful prayer to Starclan for granting her this luck - adding on a second smaller prayer to make sure Crowtooth falls in the water. It would be funny!!!
The molly continued to hunt, not wanting to win the battle but lose the war.
StarClan sake! She had brushed leaves, and Swiftfire had missed. She shook away the failure. Seeding it into her thoughts would distract her. Swiftfire approached the spot where the vole had vanished from. Now she was set on just this vole. Oh was that squirrel?
She passed her tongue over her nose, then changed direction, creeping until she could hear the clacking of teeth over hardshelled nuts. She froze to the spot when she could hear it snuffling through the forest floor for more of its stash.
Okay. So this is how Rabbittuft wanted to do it. Fallownose tried to give them the opportunity to leave peacefully despite his anger he felt at the she-cat. But no. She wanted to do it the hard way. Fine. He was done being Mr. Nice Guy.
Instead of responding to her pathetic excuse he darted to her side, aiming to clamp his jaws around her tail and yank. If he was successful he would quite literally begin dragging her away like he said he would.
Well look at her go! Not only had Deadmoon avoided sprawling face first onto the ground, but she had been able to judge the vole's position well enough that her pounce brought her, if not directly onto it close enough. It's squeal of fear made it significantly easier to pinpoint it's location than smell alone had, and a swift paw pinned it before it could scuttle away. She had been lucky it was on her 'better' side, if it was on the other she might not have got it. But she had, and so it was with great satisfaction that she scuffled a few bits of grass over it, before heading off in search of a next target. Around her, she could hear clanmates succeeding and failing and decided to get a move on.
She started walking somewhat aimlessly away from the falls at first, wanting to put some distance between her kill and the other cats making kills. The closer she was to all of that, the more likely her prey was to hear SOMEONE, or end up getting pounced on by her and someone else. Eventually she was able to scent a mouse, dropping into her crouch again. Hopefully what had worked once would work again, and she would be able to get close enough to pounce and hopefully strike it. Deadmoon might even be able to hit it head on this time!

Redpaw quickly and quietly made her way around the territory, one second she was in the grasslands but the loud sound of rushing water piqued the young apprentice's interest. "Woah.." As she stared at the waterfall with wide eyes she did notice a lot of it seemed, well frozen over.
It wasn't long before an idea sparked in her head, maybe she could impress the clan by hunting a fish here, maybe even her mentor! Without another moment's hesitation she walked onto the ice, BRRR, the sudden chill against her paw pads almost had the apprentice jumping out of her pelt!
The small inconvenience did nothing to lower her confidence as she made her way slightly slower toward the unfrozen part of the pond. As she tried using her claws for some type of stability against the slippery surface a low and deep crack sound rang through her ears. One thing the apprentice had not yet learned about a frozen-over pond, the closer she was to the unfrozen part of the pond, the weaker the ice was and this mistake sent the apprentice plunging into the cold waters with a high-pitched yelp as the ice broke underneath her paws

Her eyes still closed shut as she moved forward towards the sound of what could be mice. With the use of her soft paws, she made no noise as she moved, yet she didn't tread too close. Once she deemed she was close enough by the sound got a little louder though not louder than the waterfall. Littlepaw chose to leap and outstretched her paws and slammed them down. She could feel two wriggling bodies beneath her, oh so she managed to get two and not one. She could feel the mice trying to escape from underneath her paws but she quickly killed them and stored them in a safe spot. Now that just left her feeling overall good about her skills, maybe she had a chance to snag some more. With an excited twitch of her tail, she closed her eyes back

The white Maine Coon mix couldn't see his prey, but he could definitely hear the small squeak of alert that escaped it even as he bore down on it. It was all the warning Snowybreeze needed to know he was about to fail. With the roar of the falls still close enough to drown out important cues, the vole's cry was a clear indicator of proximity. Unable to see as he currently was, the gentle giant had simply approached too much. Too close. A mistake he would try to correct as swiftly as possible!
All it took was a pounce, and the young WindClan warrior could feel the creature under his paw, its bones crunching under his weight. Squirrelear had warned him once about being careful to not overdo his strength when hunting. How food could turn into inedible mush if he did not gauge his strikes appropriately. A real fear that he had overdone it here wrestled within the patched tom, and he struggled once more with conviction to remain with his eyes closed. Perhaps his hearing was currently still not fully reliable due to the loudness of the cascading water, and his eyes could most certainly not be relied on for now... But his nose could still be counted on, and despite the snapping sound underpaw, there was no scent of blood. As far as he could tell, the critter was all in one piece.
Lifting his unseeing head towards the heavens, Snowybreeze sent a silent thank you to StarClan for allowing him the accuracy to end the vole's life swiftly. He understood the reason for this hunting contest, or so he believed. It was all for the sake of the clan. To keep WindClan alert and ready for anything. It was training, pure and simple... but he still worried. The colossal warrior understood that hunting was a necessity, and he would never shy away from it, but he loathed the idea of making prey suffer. One strike. Swift. Merciful. Respectful for the life it needed to give so that the clan could survive.
His gratitude given, the tom clumsily dug out a small hole on the ground, admittedly nowhere near deep enough to cover his prey, but unused as he was to not have his eyes available to discern the depth, it would suffice for now. Depositing the prey and half burying it, the long furred tom padded the mound carefully, making sure to leave his scent. Without an exact knowledge of where he was, he would have to let his own scent guide him back to the hunted vole. He could hear some commotion in the background, but it had admittedly seemed to be dealt with quickly, and the quiet feline preferred to not stick his head where it did not belong. It was rude to eavesdrop, after all. Which... technically he supposed he was doing right now... but by golly, he most certainly did not intend to do so! It was more so a fault of the situation at paw. Instead of dwelling upon this, however, he turned. His task done, the blue eyed tom took his nose to the wind once more, allowing it to guide him to more prey. Or so he hoped.
