Blackjaw nodded. "Understandable," he mewed. He caught a view of a shallow pool of water as him and Mosstangle padded closer to it. "I'm sure he still appreciates you being there, he just has other obligations now," Blackjaw mewed.

Mosstangle

Other obligations... Mosstangle sniffed. "That's definitely one way of saying it. Sounds like the most neutral response possible!" The she-cat shivered when her paws touched the water. She figured she needed to do this before she lost the nerve.

With a swift motion, Mosstangle rolled onto her back, wiggling in the puddle and trying to pretend that the small layer of ice on the top didn't bother her as she soaked her back, where most of the sap was. Her nose crinkled in distaste, she decided to distract herself with more conversation.

"So, what, am I just supposed to pretend we were never attached at the hip now that he has a million other things to do?"

The she-cats anger was understandable. "Think about it from his point of view though, as far as he knows, Quietsparrow is his mate and his priority. It's not a nice thought but y'all grew up," he mewed. In a way, he was trying to convince himself of the same with his littermates. "Having someone else prioritized over you by your own siblings sucks, but it does help you meet more people".

Mosstangle

Mosstangle paused in her uncomfortable wriggling and looked up at the canopy above her. The strangeness of her laying belly-up in an ice-cold puddle on the edge of the darkwater mire and listening to the advice of a tom barely older than her was not lost on the tabby. Blackjaw seemed alright to her, but she couldn't imagine that he really understood how important this was to her.

But, she decided to drop it. Instead, she rolled herself back out of the water and carefully took a few steps away to clear the white tom from the splash area.

With a huff, Mosstangle shook the excess water from her pelt, feeling the cold sink to her skin. "I think that's enough soaking for today." She grumbled and started grooming herself, hoping to stave off some of the cold. "You know, I think that actually did help break up this sap!" She told Blackjaw. Maybe she would take some of his advice into consideration... maybe.

Blackjaw watched as the tabby groomed herself. The water had managed to loosen up the sap enough, which was good. A breeze picked up and chilled the tom, closing his yellow eyes. He was glad the water worked though. "Alright this breeze is getting a little too cold for my liking," he mewed with slight laughter.

Mosstangle shivered at the cold breeze, feeling it like ice on her fur. She blinked at Blackjaw. "Too cold for your comfort?" She snorted, half-amused by the complaint from the tom. With one more shake of her pelt, she conceded. "Yep, no, it is too cold for this. Let's head back to camp."
