Coyotepaw once more nodded, He once more crouched, creeping towards where he'd scented the mouse. The brown-based black rosette tabby tom stopped, finally the mouse was visible. He took a quiet calming breath to get his mind back on the task at hand.

The large tom crept closer, keeping note of his tail position. He was now about a fox-length away. Okay, okay here we go. He lowered himself more, wiggling his hips before launching himself forward.

He landed a bit to the left of the mouse. He cursed under his breath, swiping at it with his thorn-sharp claws. He managed to snag the mouse, killing it quickly once he was more in control. The kill itself was a bit messy, but regardless was still quick and as humane as possible.

Coyotepaw picked up his kill and made his way back to Spiritrain. He set the prey at his mentor's paws. The Shadowclan apprentice stepped back, looking towards his mentor "How do you get cleaner kills? I know I have to work on my form and stuff- but like my finishing blows never seem that clean- Do you have any tips?" He asked, tilting his head curiously.

Coyotepaw had been successful, and though it was messy, Spiritrain was glad his apprentice had been able to catch it.

Cleaner kills?
Hm.
How to explain this...

"I believe the best way may be precision." He finally replied, trying to explain it the best he could "Get as close as you can, kill as fast as you can. It takes a bit of practice, so don't worry about it too much just yet."

He nodded, though quickly his attention was grabbed by the sound of flapping wings, followed by the familiar scent of crow. The Shadowclan apprentice grinned as he lowered himself, being careful of where he held his tail.

He silently took off towards the direction the sound had come from. He finally saw what he was hunting. A few fox lengths away a crow sat, looking for worms.

Coyotepaw crept forward slowly, closing the gap between himself and the crow. He froze as something made a noise in the distance, but it didn't seem to bother the crow. They let out a quiet sigh of relief before making their move.

He darted forward out of the bushes, quickly leaping at the crow. He once more made a messy kill but it was cleaner than last time. Coyote trotted back over to his mentor, chest puffed out proudly as he set the crow down onto the mouse he'd previously caught.

Spiritrain watched as Coyotepaw made another successful catch.
"Good." He said "We'll catch some more and then head back."

With that, Spiritrain, while keeping an eye on Coyotepaw as well, started checking for prey to catch as well.
The more prey caught, the better.

Coyotepaw nodded in response, heading off in a random direction hoping to find prey, he did his best to remain in ear and/or eyeshot of his mentor. The brown-based black tabby tom sniffed at the air, furrowing his brows.

Stale rat... stale owls... stale foxes... yikes, was most of Shadowclan territory made up of predators? He sighed softly with a shrug before sniffing again wait! less stale crow, and Ah! current frog!

He looked around, finally catching a glimpse of the slimy creature he smelled. The apprentice grinned as he crouched, once more, keeping note of his tail positioning. He darted forward but mistimed his jump. He landed off to the side and ended up slipping, then tumbling a bit.

Coyotepaw groaned as he rose to his paws, only to see the frog hopping just out of view. He cursed under his breath, but didn't let this 'failure' deter him. He once more lifted his muzzle to the sky, taking in more scents. He then picked up on the smell of a mouse, good, at least that would be, something.

He padded in the direction he smelled the mouse in, slowing as it slowly crept into his vision. He lowered himself into a hunter's crouch. He silently stalked forward, tail up, paws light, fur not brushing the ground, good. Everything seems to be fine. Okay.

He crept forward more, finally close enough to pounce. Okay, here we go. He leaped into the air, landing square on the small creature. He quickly killed it, turning around to head back to where he and his mentor had been. He set the mouse on his growing pile of prey. It wasn't the biggest mouse, but with leafbare coming, no prey was very plump right now. Everything seemed to be struggling to find food as the days began to grow colder and colder.

When checking for scents, there wasn't much of note just yet.
Nothing that great, at least.

Eventually, he spotted a somewhat scrawny shrew.
It would do for now.

Spiritrain crouched, and stalked toward the shrew.
Bunching up his muscles, he began to pounce, and...

He latched onto it and killed it.

With that, Spiritrain walked back over to wait for Coyotepaw.
He would look for more, but based on the scents, it would take a long time to find something else at the moment.

The Shadowclan apprentice brought the scrawny mouse back to his mentor, bowing his head in greeting as he placed it on the other kills they'd made.

"Nice catch Spiritrain" He said with a smile, they sat beside the pile, wrapping their tail neatly around their paws. Coyotepaw licked a paw and drew it over his ear, dislodging a small twig that had gotten caught in his fur while hunting.
