Pigeonpaw The Collector - Heightened Perception (smell)
Currently carrying 6/8 possible items
'Bubbles was onboard with letting her search for the flowers, so Pigeonpaw didn't wait to see what Sneakytiger would say and happily bounded off.
[Rolled 15]
She was pretty good at finding herbs, it seemed. At least she had been during both the event and the only patrol she had been placed on so far. Well, collecting and finding things had never been much of a problem, and once she learned the scent of a herb, it was a breeze. It didn't take long before one of the bushed she poked her head into revealed a few flowers that matched the description, and she backed out of the bushes with a mouthful of [d4 = 4] Marigold!
[Rolled 17]
Alright so that was hoe they smelled. Alright alright! Placing them down, she sniffed them a little before getting her nose guide her towards the next Marigold-hiding-place. And she succeded again, sniffing her way to [d4=2] Marigold a bit further way. Knowing she could still carry a few more, she glanced towards the other two. "How is it going for you two?"

Mistlewhisker had given him a job, and gosh darnit he was going to do it the very best! He wouldn't want to dissappoint his mot-- mento---er. Deputy! Even better, his sibling was going too! Birdpaw and Grousepaw both had kind souls and promising futures, so Goopywhisker was extremely pleased. He offered everyone a smile before leading them out.
"I wonder what sorts of t-treasures await us in this new territory?" He wondered aloud, half to himself and half to the group. Had Squirrelpaw been here yet And had she found any new stones? He would keep his multicolored gaze out for any interesting trinkets while he marked like Mistlewhisker instructed him to, keeping an eye on the others as they did the same.

Gutspaw nodded its head in acknowledgement to Birdpaw, fluffy tail swishing gently back and forth. Then, Grousepaw appeared and the black tabby peered into her soul curiously. His markings were rather eye-catching — the russet was a nice contrast against the darker, monochromic colors. Surprisingly, the medicine cat apprentice acknowledged teeth, offering up a compliment. It blinked slowly at the fact, raising an eyebrow. It did not know if this was a genuine compliment or one of the er, 'i'm-going-to-point-something-out-that-i-dislike-about-you-as-if-i-like-it-but-in-reality-i-am-mocking-you' compliments.
Grousepaw wasn't laughing, so perhaps it was the former. "I like your markings, " bite replies in a monotone tone instead of offering gratitude. thank-yous were overrated. It nodded its head once more, eager to get this patrol done as swiftly as possible.
The feline walked quietly behind the patrol, icy irises dragging along the landscape. The dense pine canopy blocked the majority of the sunlight. Which meant objectively sap should be able to be found somewhere. The darkness seemed like it would provide decent cover for critters. In response to Goopywhisker's statement teeth murmurs, "maybe we'll find a snake. I would like a few of their scales.. or their fangs.. could be useful, " okay it wasn't really useful but it was fascinating. It also did not know how durable their scales were.
.... oh on the shadows did teeth suddenly absolutely need to find a snake. It had questions now, it needed answers. Gutspaw picked up its pace slightly, parting bite's jaws to scent the air. The scent of a mouse caught teeth's interest and it separated from the group, approaching the underbrush whilst it crept.
A gleam of gray fur caught its eye and the apprentice leapt into the bushes, paws outstretched. The damn thing put up a fight - squeaking at the tops of its lungs as Gutspaw' claws sunk down on its tail. It bit at its paws before teeth was sunk into its neck.

Birdpaw was practically vibrating with energy as the eclectic cast of characters gathered around her. Freckle's apprentice, siblings with cool names, and the weird cat no one liked. Then again, Birdpaw had no idea she was considered "the weird one" of the Ark family, and even if she did she wouldn't really know what that insinuated so it wouldn't matter.
As the group left camp, Birdpaw stuck by Grousepaw and Gutspaw. "I like your name too!" She chirped in a horrifically accurate impression of Mossfreckle's lilting voice. "And your patterns!" She directed that comment to Grousepaw. Her amber eyes snagged on theirs for a moment, something hardening into a vague stone of suspicion as she regarded him. This was her big brother's apprentice. If she so much as stepped a single one of those giant white paws out of line, Birdpaw would rip him to shreds. Er, she didn't exactly understand the idea of hurting someone just because, so she would probably bap him really hard with a stick or something. Regardless, Birdpaw was watching them. Always. Watching.
As Goopywhisker--wow, how did he manage to get all that stuff in his fur??--wondered out loud about what they would find, Birdpaw took the rhetorical question and answered it with full force. "I want to find WORMS." She meowed, claws flexing into the ground. She had recently become aware of how cool worms were, what with all the rain. They weren't very tasty, but she had heard once that birds liked them. She was named after a bird! Besides, she was pretty sure she heard Gutspaw mumbling about snakes or something. Worms were just snakes without scales, so...
As teeth split away, Birdpaw took that as an opportunity to go snuffling around the soil for any slimy friends she could use to draw out birds. Alas, the soil was too thin and rocky to find anything worth catching. No matter! Maybe she'd find one while looking for something else.
Despite her rather... brainless behavior, Birdpaw was actually a pretty adept hunter. She opened her jaws and scented the air, coming up with a vole and... a lizard? Ooh... she hadn't caught one of those before. Choosing the lizard, Birdpaw ensured she was downwind and used the moss to soften her pawsteps as she crept along the scent trail. And... There! Sunning itself on a rock was a brown lizard. Birdpaw kept her small body low to the ground, face taking on a serious expression as she crept closer and closer. The lizard remained completely unaware until it was too late. Birdpaw's white paws slammed down on it, pinning it down so she could deliver a swift bite to its spine. The apprentice grinned, looking up with the lizard in her mouth. She silently praised herself, digging a small hole and dropping the lizard in it. Onto her next catch!
[Birdpaw gained +1 lizard!]
Opening her jaws again, Birdpaw scented around for the vole she had scented earlier. Finding it after a few minutes, she followed the trail until she heard the little creature scuffling in the grass. Swiftly leaping upon it, Birdpaw snapped its spine with her weight and bit its neck for good measure. That was pretty successful!
Gaze flitting to Rookpaw as they wandered around . . . presumably with Yellowtwist, though skies knew where he was, and the last thing Lostspark wanted to do was get herself in trouble after scolding someone else for being out here without three cats. She sighed, slightly put-off. "No, greencough hasn't been a big problem for us, at least not that I've seen so far." Shrugging, the former medic inclined her head.
"Anyway, we'd best collect whatever chervil we can here and then head back. It seems like Yellowtwist doesn't care to aid us today." Hmph. Now she would hold this grudge (probably not, but the thought was enticing) like when he'd thrown a rock at her head.

rookpaw had expected a bit more information than this more or less non descriptive "no" but it wasnt that much of a surprise, rook hadnt asked her question in the way she wanted it to be answered so she might as well accept a vague response. well, theoretically, it wasnt even vague, it had perfectly answered what she had actually asked, just not the questions that went unsaid.
rook briefly considered re-stating or rather re-wording her questions but lostspark seemed upset enough with all the rule breakers and lack of engagement that she decided it better be left unsaud. there was always the future to find out more...and even if, deep down, she couldnt quite wrap her head around it, there wasnt a need for her to stress about learning as much as possible as fast as possible anymore. riverclan might be a thing of the past but the habit of sleepless nights spent worrying, paws pushed close to her body, keep her locked away from the harsh cold of bare stone in front of the herb storage, seemed to stick. a shake of her head accompanied lostsparks words as rookpaw turned her attention back to the task at hand; chervil. "sounds good"
the slightly agape maw and sharp silver eyes as the apprentice stared ahead would make the lanky feline appear focussed on the task, and she didnt take long to actually find a bit of chervil, but while chervil shifted into the back of her mind, the training she had gotten from lostspark resurfaced again and the wondering began once again. it wasnt actually much more questions and moreso waiting for the moment, or better even, trying to figure out a moment, in which she could finally corner lostspark with her words and ask about the blindness rookpaw was pretty sure lostspark wasnt actually suffering from anymore..
[ rolls: 10, 12, 6, 7, 11, 20, 20, 20 ]
rook caught the sweet floral scent that promised success quite quickly after doing her all to focus on something outside her head for once, and the first spread of chervil the apprentice came across looked pretty alright, some of it too small, too squishy in a sickly way, or already dried out, but there was still some of it that was good, additionally she had decided there was no harm in digging up some roots. the second time the darker feline lead them to chervil was more of a success, strong colour and smell welcomed rookpaw warmly, and she was able to collect a good amount, plus some roots that were a bit more smelly but looked like dry and shriveled up.
What an eventful patrol! Goopywhisker watched from the sidelines as Gutspaw and Birdpaw split off to find treasure's of their own; a small smile gracing his face. It was so nice to see one of his siblings back in the clan again. Hopefully Rot and Bile would return as well. A scuffle in the direction of Guts caused a small bit of panic to shoot through Goopy, as the warrior left his marking duties to check on his sibling. For a moment he had been concerned teeth had actually found a snake, but after closer inspection it seemed bite had found a mouse.
"Now w-we really look like siblings!" He chirped, nodding to the mess it had gotten stuck to it's fur.
----
It had been enough time for everyone to gather their things and mark the border. Goopywhisker hadn't found anything of interest himself, choosing to focus on keeping Shadowclan safe rather than hunt for treasures. He was the only warrior on this patrol, and despite being around the same age he still felt responsible.
"L-lets head back!" A call in Birdpaw - and hopefully Grousepaw's direction. Where had the medicine cat apprentice wandered off to? Should he wait? His front paw tapped anxiously in thought while his multicolored eyes scanned the territory for the familiar pelt. A few more minutes... we can spare a few more minutes, and then we'll report back. Hopefully Grousepaw is alright...

GROUSEPAW THE TRAILBLAZER "they say that i am the sick boy. easy to say when you don't take the risk, boy."
bird trailed along side he and guts, chattering along with the compliments in a voice far too close to mossfreckles. as gutspaw returned his compliment, he grinned in genuine mirth and nodded along. then, glancing down at birdpaw with mild amusement, grouse added, "that's a really cool trick you got there, the whole voice thing."
but as the grotto came into view, grousepaw trailed off ahead, slipping into the small once-cave, ducking under the iridescent spray of water split on the lip. okay, so, honestly he didn't know how to hunt and he didn't want to ask anyone to teach him patrol, so he was going to take mistle's suggestion of collecting some herbs up. he was gonna need it with all the tensions in the air, and their cobweb and marigold stores had been looking frankly abysmal.
so, the young anarchist scrounged around a bit, nosing through all of his favorite nooks of the grotto's shelter, and with a thin stick clutched between grinning teeth he curled some cobweb around and around, gathering about three webs. he stared for a while at the spider creeping up the wall, distractedly fascinated, before trotting back out into the sunlight with his head held high and some wayward cobwebs blowing into his face, making him want to sneeze. oh well, he decided, and passed one last cursory glance around the grotto before scooping up two orange-yellow flowers he identified as marigold and regrouping. he could be useful when he wanted to be! which was now, because he valued his life, usually.
"got spiders an' stuff. sorry." he grunted to the group as he caught up after a momentary disappearance into the sheltered and shady grotto.

Gutspaw stared blankly at Goopywhisker, cocking its head to the side before glancing down to peer at its own fur. ",,Oh, " it mewed quietly as if it was just occurring to them, eyebrows knitting together with distaste. Hm. Now, actually - that was an idea. "'Suppose we do, " It replied back to its brother. (Who it would never tell but was genuinely glad to see his stupidface again. )
With a small nod, the apprentice buried the mouse it had caught in the ground before going on the search for one more piece of prey before returning. Then, it could look for supplies. Admittedly, teeth had strayed rather far into the underbush. It stepped quietly, jaws parted open to scent the area. With great effort, it eventually picked up the trail of ,, either a shrew or a vole? Teeth wasn't incredibly familiar.
It slowly crept out from a bush, icy irises gleaming in the dark as it watched the creature nibble on grass outside what appeared to be an aged, moss-ridden log. It had a longer snout,,, so - shrew? Gutspaw was pretty sure. Maybe. Didn't matter, prey was prey. It's position shifted to what bite could recall from teeth's training with Mistlewhisker before suddenly it pounced.
Paws slammed down and with a dying squeak, it delivered a quick killing bite. Success!!!
With a satisficed grin, the feline made its way back to the group. It unburied its mouse andd, oh they were leaving? Already? It hadn't even gotten to look for any supplies. With the strict restrictions (which it understood was for safety but really, they ought to be able to decide whether or not they wanted to take that risk for themself.) it was a pain in the arse. With a small sigh, Gutspaw waited for Grousepaw to appear with the rest of them. It wasn't horribly long but she did mumble something about spiders.
It wondered if it could get a spider to live inside the apprentice's den. Then it would never run out of cobwebs. With a small shrug, Gutspaw would follow behind the three with their prey in tow.
Or - or at least that was the plan. It seriously was definitely the plan. Gutspaw didn't enjoy being late nor did it had any interest on upsetting Mistlewhisker. It just - kept finding ,, knickknacks. First was the largest pinecone tooth had ever seen that was just laying near at the base of a large tree. It stopped momentarily, collecting it and then carrying on its way.
Then it was just these peculiar ferns. They looked so weird and were awfully big. it needed to go in its nest. So, cue another stop where Gutspaw set down its items and started picking up the large ferns and doing their best to wrap them around bite's neck. Then it picked up what it had been carrying previously and started to follow. It was beginning to trail a bit,, behind and maybe, maybe if it had picked up the pace then Gutspaw would not have ended up taking so long to reach camp.
Unfortunately, the forest called to them and it kept finding things. The moment they stopped looking - hello!! They all popped up. Its fate was sealed. By the time Gutspaw would reach camp it would end up a wee bit late, tired, yet with so many trinkets to behold.
Evergreen Grotto, huh? That was definitely a name, one that almost sounded too cheery for Shadowclan. Mudslide entertained herself by thinking of other possible names, like Winding Shadows or Clawed Pines. It's not that shw hated the current name, it just , missed the usual edge of Shadowclan landmarks. Maybe Dawnstar was just in a happier mood when she named this one.
Mudslide tried to picture the leader with a smile, but she couldn't. No matter how hard her brain attempted to twist and alter her expression, it never came out right, just oddly uncanny like her face was never made to emote in that way.
The recently frustrated warrior was finally starting to ease herself back into her usual calm, grateful that not dragonflies sang in her ears. "Thanks." She said after awhile, not even glancing in Mossfreckle's direction. It was nice that he came with her, she wasn't sure who she'd drag onto the patrol with her. Socializing was the worst thing in the world, and while Mossfreckle was also a stranger, he didn't seem very talkative. A win for her.
Time to collect some herbs! Here are the rules I have in place for myself.
- Using a 20 sided dice roll
- Below 20, odd numbers 3 - 19 = It is completely intact.
- Below 20, even numbers 2 - 18 = It is slightly damaged.
- Rolling a 20 = You get to harvest it.
- Rolling a 1 = You don't get to harvest it.
Got it? Good! Now let's go, go, go!
Mushroom, ragwort, and stinging nettle. What a lineup. Since mushrooms were dubbed the easiest, Mudslide decided she'd get at most five of those.
She walked up to a tree that had stubby little shrooms sprouting at the base.
(Mudslide rolled a 1! Harvest failed!)
Surprisingly enough, Mudslide hadn't managed to properly harvest the oddly shaped fungi, her ears twitching. Alright then, next one. She merely shifted herself slightly to the left to attempt and collect a mushroom, this one being slightly taller.
(Mudslide rolled a 20! Harvest successful!)
(Mudslide rolled a 19! It's completely intact!)
Mudslide uprooted the mushroom with a gentile tug, holding the herb gingerly in her jaws.
