dawnpaw hadnt found hawkcatcher but found alpinepaw instead and trotted over to the other molly excitedly. "Are you ready? I have never seen fireflies before have you?" Dawnpaw asked trying to not bounce paw to paw from the exciting experiance they was about to have.

Ashenheart quietly padded over. Oh, fun; a time to try and socialize. She quietly looked at the other cats with a gentle expression.

Goldenpaw gives a start, gasping dramatically. They round on Kestrelpaw with this wide-eyed look, blinking all faux-innocent like a caught criminal. ...Ah! Well, of course they had read her mind. Duh. The corny, caught-red-handed look is swapped out for one of glee.

"Awh, yeah. Guess the game's up; you got me good. That's my thing, the thoughts-hearing stuff. The stealin' stuff, too. Mhm." Goldenpaw nods firmly, looking gravely serious and seriously pleased. "Matter'a fact, I think I feel it coming on again. Right now you're thinkinnnn'...awh, hey! Well! You're not so bad, yourself." They preen for a moment, evidently quite flattered by whatever they've just decided Kestrelpaw is thinking (Goldenpaw has not, unfortunately, uncovered the secret of kestrel-death). After another few seconds of hamming it up like some sort of aspiring star, they drop their shoulders into a slouch and peek out of the outrageous act.

"Hope you meant it about forgiving me if I 'fessed up. Gonna be pretty hard to start a friendship with a nasty li'l grudge in the way." They seem intent, as though friendship is a foregone conclusion.

What was this? An opportunity to hang out with her clanmates! How fun! Ain't no way Nightgaze wouldn't join! Bounding over, she glanced around excitedly, already seeking out a companion or two, or three, or four, or as many as she could find for this little event. Talking was one of her specialties and if she didn't have a chat for a while who knew what would happen!

Mallowpaw needed to get out of camp. She needed to do something, to stretch her legs, to distract herself from the loneliness that sat heavy in her stomach like a boulder. So when she heard Webstripe's call, Mallowpaw rose from her place in the apprentices' den on shaky legs and headed outside.

It was shady, the afternoon sun lowering in the sky. There were already a fair number of cats there, mainly apprentices. Two were talking loudly, their banter making her heart clench. It was a bond she didn't have, one she longed for.

Trying to push away the tendrils of envy snaking around her heart, Mallowpaw sat down, waiting for Webstripe to lead them out of camp. Part of her wished she hadn't come, but she knew going out of camp would be good for her. Even if it meant watching the young apprentices act so carefree while her envy grew. She would never have that. Her kithood was gone and wasn't coming back.

Hollyheart got up from her nest. Boy was it hot outside she thought, as she began sweating intensely in her dark fur. But she was still excited. Maybe I could figure out a way to bring live fireflies back for the kits... She walked out of the warriors den, and over to Mallowpaw. "Where's your mentor?" She asked.

She had been trying to ignore them, but her eyes kept coming back to the apprentices, so happy and carefree. A deep sense of longing tugged at her heart; she wanted to have that. She wanted to banter with friends, to act so free and easy. But Mallowpaw knew that wasn't to be, so she just watched them, letting them have their fun. They were barely out of kithood, after all.

She was still watching them when Mallowpaw heard pawsteps come towards her and a cat speak, asking her where her mentor was. It wasn't a question she had been expecting. Mallowpaw turned towards the warrior and shrugged. "I'm not sure. Probably hunting or something." At least she knew he wasn't gone; Wolfhive wouldn't abandon his clan like that. He wouldn't abandon her like that. Not like Mushroomcloud or Beetail or Moonfrost or Foxpaw. He was going to help her complete her training, even if her grip on that hope was slowly slipping. He would. He would.
