Watertail gave an approving nod, wordlessly showing his apprentice the final strech, it required him to stretch his paws in turn and then twist his torso gently with his rump in the air. The only words of advice Watertail gave Mosspaw were. "Don't lift your rump to much or it'll hurt you."

Once Watertail finished showing the stretches he pointed to a small lump of tall grass, then to a rabbits nest, and then at himself. "Those will be checkpoints. I want you to practice your stride, keep your paws light but firm, stretch your legs, hind legs tucked to push yourself while forepaws stretch to launch yourself while running." Watertail mewed, "Run around it three times, everytime you reach me i'll give you feedback and send you off again." Watertail meowed, sending off his apprentice with a confident and dismissive flick of his tail.

Mosspaw nodded to Watertail as he did the last stretch. Then Mosspaw tried running around the checkpoints. He tried to keep his body low to the ground, not because Watertail had told him to, but to Mosspaw, it just felt right.

Watertail watched his apprentice. Once his apprentice reached back to him Watertail stopped his with a flick of his tail. "Take a small breather, we'll work on your stamina over the time. Your staying low technique will be good for running after rabbits and such. When running from or to cats you'd want to straighten your body, the more you lower yourself the more energy you use for your strides. " Watertail mewed, "Your also running with your pad on the ground, when pushing yourself foreward, use your hind paws firmly for the push and use the tip of your forepaws to launch yourself further." Watertail intruscted. "Don't feel bad for not getting this all, even experienced warriors such as myself can't do this all the time."

Mosspaw glowed at his mentor’s praise, and as Watertail had instructed, he took a small breather.

Watertail waited for his apprentice to breath a bit. "Don't catch your breath all the way, do another lap when you've almost caught your breath. It streches your lungs so you can have more stamina. And your legs being tired will adjust along the way." Watertail mewed. "I'll race you back to this spot" Watertail meowed. "Watch my movements as I run. Run with me, it helps your stamina and your multi-tasking." Watertail instructed.

Mosspaw ran alongside Watertail, enjoying the thrill of running.
“This. Is. AWESOME!” Mosspaw said between strides. “I love running!”
He closed his eyes in pure bliss… a mistake he realised when he tripped on a clump of grass and tumbled head over paws and landed on his back.
Luckily he was unhurt, and he sprang to his paws and shouted “I’m ok! I totally meant to do that!”

Watertail watched. Giving a rare praise. "Quite good. Assuming you've done it before. " He meowed. "Ok, so for battle training I'll show you official moves for claws and such next time. But for now, showing me the on long grass your claws flick. If you don't know what I mean ask."
