Swanpaw’s Climbing Lesson [p]

Mossfreckle watched Swanpaw with an intensity and focus that could not be rivalled, one wrong move and he was wiling to throw himself to catch the apprentice. He watched Swanpaw scrabble, Mossfreckle winced a little but let out a sign of relief as the apprentice began his assent. “You are doing good, little swan,” he purred encouragingly as he watched the apprentice making his way up to his claw mark.

Swanpaw slipped a short amount before freaking out and scrambling down the tree nodding his head towards Mossfreckle. "Thank you!" he meowed his pelt puffed up in emaresement. "I tried my best"

Mossfreckle’s heart thudded in his ears as he watched the apprentice slip and scramble down. Thump thump thump was all he could hear, thump tHuMp THUMP. Taking a cantering breath he turned to the apprentice, “Are you okay,” he meowed as he scrutinised every moment of the apprentice to make sure he was not fining anything - nothing seemed out of place.

Assured that Swanpaw was okay… well a little embarrassed but okay, Mossfreckle decided to continue on with his lesson. “Can you tell me what you did wrong, I am proud of you for coming down - a true warrior knows when to admit his weaknesses - but it is also good to think on the things you have done,” he meowed matter-of-factly.

Swanpaw looked up at Mossfreckle tears were lightly springing in his eyes as he looked down at his paw. I got this don't be a baby taking a deep breath he smiled. "Hey! I'm ok don't worry! I can practically hear your heart thumping from here!" he tried to switch the topic of what he just did.
If I fell I don't think I could get hurt so I should be A ok!" he hobbled/limped over to Mossfreckle. "I didn't go a very go claw hold with my front paws before, I lifted my back ones" he meowed respectfully towards the warrior. "I'm Sorry, I'll promise I'll try harder and get it next time." he bowed his head but once he heard Mossfreckle say he was proud of him he lifted it up again and smiled.

"Do you think i'll be as good as a warrior as you will be?"

Mossfreckle looked the apprentice over, “Is your paw sore or did skin tear?” he asked as he noticed that Swanpaw was limping over towards him - he hoped it was just sore from scrambling and landing… he would be fine, right?

“Right,” he meowed, continuing on, “You did not get a proper paw hold before continuing on. But again, it is better to come down and not try to recover in a training situation. Do note, however, that a torn claw is better than death so in a situation that has those option… try to recover,” he wanted the apprentice to be prepared but safe, Mossfreckle praised and warned simultaneously. Turning is thoughtful moss coloured gaze on to sawnpaw he asked, “Do you think you are well enough to try again?” he asked kindly with no hint of mocking or cruelty, only cautious care of the assessed situation.

[1d20 - 7] - Fail

Swanpaw looked down at his paw. "I think it's just sore" he meowed as he motioned that he could move it and it wasn't broken. He sat and listened carefully on what Mossfreckle was saying nodding his head in agreement. He looked towards the tree. "I could try again" he meowed as he walked towards the base of the tree. He reached a paw on and was little bit up once he fell back down again with a thump. He immediately got back up and brushed it off before trying it again.

[1d20 - 12] - Success

He took a deep breath as he looked up towards the tree. I got this. he reached up clawing onto the tree before steadily making his way up higher and higher until he was right above the clawmark. He smiled to himself as he looked down towards Mossfreckle. Hey its not even that high up! he smiled towards Mossfreckle. "I think I see a smaller branch just a couple tail length above I think I can reach it. Can I try it?"

Mossfreckle watched cautiously as the apprentice began to climb again, wincing as he fell with a small thud. He said nothing though, making a big deal out of it may make the apprentice panic and feel like he may actually be hurt. Smiling to himself, he watched as the apprentice shook the earth from his pelt and began his assent once more.

Reaching Mossfreckle’s claw mark he heard Swanpaw call down and ask if he could climb to a branch a tad higher up. Contemplating his question Mossfreckle spoke, “Yes, I suppose you can try… but if you fall know that Lostspark will probably not be thrilled with either of us.”

[1d20 - 13] - Success

Swanpaw smiled to himself as Mossfreckle accepted his request. He scrambled up slipping a little bit but stop to get a paw hold until he was on the branch. He felt it with his paw it was thick enough for him but probably not a warrior. He wasn't even that heavy so it shouldn't break on him. He raised his tail to balance himself as he looked down at Mossfreckle.

"Look I made it!"

Mossfreckle had watched cautiously as Swanpaw had scrambled up to the branch slipping a little bit taking his time to steady and stabilise himself. Starclan help him… he thought, if this apprentice fell Lostspark… or Dawnstar… would probably have his head for being mousebrained and endangering an apprentice. Slowly, slowly, slowly he silently urged the apprentice up higher into the tree.

Swanpaw called down to him from his place in the tree, Mossfreckle let out his long held breath in a sign of relief - safe. With ease, he followed up after the apprentice and was quickly perched on a branch just above, “getting down can be hard so watch me as I go down, and I mean WATCH. You did good going up, I am proud. But I will prefer if you do not get hurt on this last bit,” he said with a stern but patient tone.

Swanpaw wobbled a little bit but was still carefully on the branch. Looking down towards Mossfreckle. And watched him climb up a little bit ahead of him. That was so fast and flawless! he looked at him in awe. "That was so amazing climbing!" he called above but as Mossfreckle motioned for him to watch he kept a stare towards the tom. Not wanting to miss anything.
