Crash the hunting course

It seemed that despite her startled expression when the lizard's tail popped off, Sleepypaw was not being berated on the matter - rather, educated that it was a common occurrence, and an impressive one, if she could say so. Her expression remained dull but there was a twitch of her ear which revealed interest in the matter; a certain curiosity of how this was possible, and an acknowledgement of the supposed milestone. Vibrant eyes fell down upon the lizard, mind working as a thought entered her mind; if this was a milestone, then she wanted to gift it to mama.

Miss Grandmama was busy. She would have asked her grandmother otherwise; no one was more qualified than Miss Grandmama in teaching her, but with the move and recent happenings, Sleepypaw could see the strong leader being busy. As such, she did not want to interrupt important work. Instead, the starry-freckled apprentice found herself approaching Mistlewhisker once more after the sun had set behind the trees, darkness engulfing the camp. Vibrant eyes stood out in the darkness, unblinkingly looking towards the now deputy, recalling her acceptable teachings last they worked together.
"Night hunting. Please."
Is all Sleepypaw found herself saying to communicate her intentions; additional hunting practice, more practice when it came to being stealthy - what could she say, she wanted to have her bases covered and this seemed important, too. And of course the apprentice made a show of her manners by adding the important word despite the flat quiet tone in which she spoke, expectantly watching Mistlewhisker, expecting the deputy of all cats to accept such a request.

Mistlewhisker could guess what Sleepypaw wanted when the apprentice approached her, and she was willing to provide. As a cat who enjoyed training others, she was always open to supplementing when necessary. Night training? Now, that was something she hadn't gotten a request for yet. Strangely enough. She'd had two apprentices ask her for flaying training, but no one yet for night hunting. The deputy gave the elder apprentice a nod. "Come."

Traversing the territory at night was very different than during the day. The trees seemed to shift their positions, and rocks that hadn't been there in the day were now prime obstacles. As they walked, Mistlewhisker mentioned this. "At night, you have to rely more on senses other than sight." While cats had good night vision, it wasn't enough to get by without utilizing other senses. "Pay attention to what you hear. Shifts in brush can indicate prey, or predator. Always scent, as it will help you determine what is around you." They continued walking, Mistlewhisker staying close so Sleepypaw could see her in the dim light of the rising moon. "Use your whiskers to feel around while stalking."

When they reached a clearing shadowed by large trees, Mistlewhisker stopped. "With these things in mind, try finding something to hunt. Scent the air and tell me what you can smell."

She provided. Sleepypaw had expected this, it was Mistlewhisker duty now. Sleepypaw fell in step behind the deputy, paws cautious and sense on high alert as they traversed the darkness her mama wore as a cloak. Her whiskers twitched, leaning down briefly to brush them along the stems of grass as they proceeded forth, careful not to trip or step upon a branch to be broken; halting only Mistlewhisker gave the instruction to, leaving Sleepypaw to scent the air in the darkness, much like during regular hunting. During this late night many sounds and scents assaulted her senses, forcing Sleepypaw to focus entirely on her surroundings and what she had to be alert off – but through the seeking of prey, something caught in the wind.
“Bird. There.”
She mew quietly, though she did not recognise what type as of yet.
