Brackenpaw let out a soft snicker at the confusion and sucking up that happened in the wake of Finchwhiskers public demotion. It was.... cute, how all those cats thought they had a remote chance. Honestly, the meeting had quickly gotten boring, like a bird falling out of the sky. So no executions, simply the demotion of the deputy.

A sudden turn of events, but easily not the most shocking, it was bound to happen.

well, marshwolf couldn't say she was surprised when dawnstar announced that finchwhisker would no longer be the deputy - she hadn't seen the tom in some time and with having to send out patrols herself..she wasnt upset, to say the least. if a cat couldn't do their job, it was only right that they'd be punished. also hearing that she'd be taking over patrols for the time being, her chest puffed out the slightest bit in growing pride.

with the reports of fresh fox scents and the twoleg trap, along with the bunny problem and the growing problem of those bottom feeders - she'd need to send out more patrols soon.

her attention shifted to a cat walking over to her, eyes landing on finchpaw who was acting much different than the first time she'd met him. his tone seemed..more respectful, no hints of a sour attitude. she tipped her nose upwards slightly before giving a simple and short nod of her head.

"i don't see why you're congratulating me, but I'll accept it nonetheless. is being in charge of patrols a high role of sorts to you?" it was a genuine question, but her tone always seemed challenging and a bit annoyed, so it may have sounded like she was possibly picking on the apprentice.

Finchpaw narrowed his eyes as his mentor dismissed his congratulations. It had taken a lot to put aside his pride to support his new mentor like that and she had all but made fun of him for it.

Stifling a hiss he simply dig his claws into the earth and tried to keep his respect from slipping away.

“It’s a role, reguardless of hierarchy, that Dawnstar chose you for. If our leader found value in you to assign you to any position then I don’t see a reason to not congratulate you. Seems you have some value,” he spoke through clenched teeth.

Value that he didn’t see but that’s just details... the molly better take him out for some good training or this kindness would be for nothing.

Seeing his apprentice, a smile grew along his muzzle and her motioned for Darkpaw to join him. Though, when Dawnstar started speaking, the quick smile fell just as fast as it had come.

Terror stirred in her belly as she lowered her ears. She wasn’t sure she could do what Dawnstar wanted of them, it’d take pushing herself, but she’d do it. She didn’t feel like having Dawnstar view her as disloyal.

Clovernose flinched. He was surprised how much Splotchleaf was invested his their leader. For Clovernose he rather hated Dawnstar.

Clovernose glared straight at Dawnstar. He hoped this wouldn’t come between him and the handsome tom beside him.

Well, that was something. Her cats appeared far more interested in shredding the fish over anything else that she said. Not that Dawnstar was going to say anything about it. If they were so eager to rip up some RiverClan guppies, she'd give them all the freedom they wanted, once she was done with bunnies, of course.

Her ears shot up and amber eyes directed themselves over to Stemhop and Falconfeather. Both had decent questions, Stemhop was more than interested in tearing up some fish. Both Badgerscar and Redshrike's interjections got her thinking about how to answer the molly. If she was being honest, she didn't really care if they crossed the borders. ShadowClan already had a stellar reputation as a clan that paid no heed to the borders and scent marks, so if Stemhop wanted to trespass Dawnstar really wouldn't care, but then she recalled something that Seaweed had said at his first gathering as a leader.

"I don't care if you pick fights with any of the border patrols that show up, but don't trespass just yet. The fish have the same kill order as we do for trespassers and I can't afford to lose warriors right this second. Once we're done with WindClan and the border then I don't mind as much. I want to figure out what's going on with the squirrels as well before we push too hard." The last thing Dawnstar needed was all three clans coming down on them. It would be exciting and fun, but the recovery process would take far too much time. If Kestrelstar had really caused enough damage to ThunderClan, she'd have to think about how to work that in her and ShadowClan's favor. Raids as well as the loss of a significant figure often kept clans away from the gathering to recover. What happened to ThunderClan?

"I'll allow you to hold a training event for the warriors, I want to personally see how the apprentices' training is coming along, so I'll be holding a separate training event for them." Dawnstar was pleased to see someone was willing to take initiative when it came to battling aside from her. If Stemhop learns some manners and some humility, Dawnstar was hoping that she could make use of the molly.

"As I said before, Marshwolf will be handling patrols, but she's not deputy. I'm not making her my deputy as far as I know, and none of you are expected to treat her like a deputy. She's still a warrior, she'll just be helping with assigning patrols. Nothing less and nothing more." Dawnstar snarled each word out and shot a glare around at her clanmates. She trusted Marshwolf was old and mature enough to not let this... bit of power Dawnstar was gracious enough to bestow on her go to her head. Arrogance didn't get a cat very far with the murderous leader.

"As for the other clans, with or without a deputy, I will make sure that they know we are not a clan to be looked down upon. I am and always have been ShadowClan's power. When the other clans look at us, they speak of me, do they not? They fear me, they challenge me, they threaten me, not my deputy. If they're smart, they'll know better than test me... unless they're the guppies, fishbrains." Dawnstar snorted the last word with a disapproving head shake. The clan leader made a mental note to pester Reshrike later, he didn't look all that great.

"If that's all you have to say, I'm moving on. Cottonkit [ Leafí ], Sandkit [ Winterrabbit ] and Mosskit [windtail ]."

Wait, OH STARCLAN HOW DID HE FORGET! He quickly groomed himself, and then rushed over to the Shadowledge. This was embarressing, this was his second biggeest moment in life! [The second wasn't going to happen for a while] and he had forgot about it! He didn't even look prepared for the occasion!
