coldfire was in thunderclan camp, sitting in the clearing. he was grooming his pelt when he looked up, and his two-toned orbs settled on a warrior roseheart also foxclaw.

Roseheart suppressed a wince at the thought of hunting and getting her paws dirty. Though alas, she couldn't avoid doing duties forever, she hasn't done anything for the clan all day so she should probably do something. That's why she decided to go with Coldfire and Foxclaw for hunting. "Very well."

“No it's ok, I’ll wait for you to kiss my paws.” @Dark @Rani So sorry didn't know whos turn was next!

"A rabbit? Now that doesn't sound that bad, how big could a non-predator be anyways?" Lightningpaw said clearly not knowing much in the way of prey and somehow thinking she knew better than a warrior. "Now to see if any are actually around here."

Lightningpaw could tell how nervous she made Swanpaw and was determining if she wanted to keep doing that or try to befriend her. Time would tell if Swanpaw proved someone that she wanted to waste her time with or not. For now she was just going to continue to train. Now she had some battle training done so she tried to crouch like she did when she was ready to jump at the rocks she practiced on. Giving a quick glance to her positioning she lifted up her belly a bit more feeling it touch the grass. Now this was perfect, and no she was not going to ask Muddy as she knew she was perfect!~

Great starclan how was Mudhound gonna handle this apprentice. They were pretty sure if they ever said a single thing that could even be slightly construed as bad Swanpaw would cry. Like doing fighting with Sprucejumper had been bad, their old apprentice had been a tad fearful of even sparing against such a larger more skilled opponent but Sprucejumper had mettle and calm and powered through but Swanpaw had none of that. This kid would have a heart attack and die on the spot when time came for combat unless Mudhound found a way to sooth her heart. Oh starclan.

The tripod tried to be as calm and kind as possible approaching Swanpaws form.
"Oh thats a good start kiddo! Your ears and tail are just in the perfect position and wont give you away to any prey I bet! Doesnt look very comfortable though so Im just gonna nudge you into something that should feel better and when you feel ready open your eyes and take a look at how the stance looks on you!"
That was kind enough right? No real spoken criticism, just gentle corrections. It still felt like walking on eggshells though.

A gentle paw nudged Swanpaws head down and legs into something better as best they could and the tripod rasped a tongue over the kids head as she held the position, giving a brief purr as they moved to focus on Lightningpaw.


That one on the other paw was the polar opposite.

"Well Sparky you'll be shocked! We joke that windclan is skinny because there's no prey on the moor (which is kinda right) but theres a reason its healthy skinny and why they still never starve in winter. A healthy rabbit can be the size of a senior apprentice and while they arent rare but arent common in thunderclan rabbits are everywhere on the moor!

Once I get you through a stalk and pounce Ill tell you all you need to know to hunt them though, so you can still give it your best shot if you do find one~"
That part might be mainly teasing though. Sure willpower and confidence could be most of a battle in the end, however Lightningpaw was juuuuust a little too small and green for Mudhound to place their bets on her yet. Stranger things had happened though and the calico hardly seemed to need any correction so maybe it was possible.

"Oooh you've been practicing outside of class havent you Lightningpaw! Great form, just remember to keep that belly above the grass!


We can move onto the stalk next then! Move slow and steady forward to your target in your crouch as close as you can get~
Most of stalking is hiding behind things, few cats have the right pelt to blend in and even a good pelt will give itself away if you happen to be moving when spotted. So position large bushes and tall grass or trees between you and your prey when stalking so you can be hidden behind those things should your prey's head pop up to look out for, well, you!
On that topic make sure you know where youre stepping, step on a stick or something that'll make a loud noise and youve got no dinner! If youre unsure of a step gently place a paw down and kinda feel if it feels dry or brittle before you put wight on it as a test.

Finally the wind, test the direction with your whiskers and make sure to stay downwind, as theres very few prey animals (basically just birds) that cant smell you at least to some degree so always keep the wind in mind.

As the hornet explained they demonstrated, stalking towards a rock they tossed away, slinking between grass and bush to always be hidden despite their camouflaged brown pelt. At several points they showed bad spots to step by stepping on a leaf or stick and pointing out the noise and even stood upwind of the two so they could see how much easier it was to spot them if the wind wasnt taken into account.

Hopefully it was comprehensive enough for them to master the skill!

It was her first outing as a warrior. A real warrior. All these months of training and she could finally be freed to be on her own -- well, mostly on her own. She could never really escape the darkness that constantly threatened to swallow her whole, could she? The aching in her claws that threatened to explode on her fellow clanmates. The urge to scream at the top of her lungs for freedom she could never find.

Freedom.
Such a foreign term she wished she could grasp.

Blood.
Her heart thumped loudly in her chest. There was a thirst she wasn't understanding and needed to. It was driving Treetiger further into the insanity she hid well from her clan. Just the thought of a fight was enough to cause adrenaline to pump through her veins. The darkness was slowly sinking its claws into her flesh and the kicker to it all was the scent of a loner tickling her nose. Her first mission as a warrior. She was tracking a fairly fresh scent of loner in their territory. Prey.
