Re: Firefly Cove
Thrushfur flew down the hill, kicking up dust including the wildflowers. Firefly Cove was simply beautiful! He could already smell the gift of prey over this rich meadow. He then dug up a small hole to keep the mouse in a safe space while hunting. He flicked the dirt off his paws and began to lick them clean. The dirt that he accidentally swallowed gave off a rocky fresh taste. He went into a coughing fit.
He then overlooked the meadow narrowing his blue eyes. He slid down roughing up some flowers along the way. He spotted long pricked ears above the grass, a rabbit munching on some grass. Rubbing its ears as it looked around cautiously. Thrushfur crouched and stepped forward, he slowed his breathing to have some silence and the pollen that blew in the air. His pupils slit as he slowly swished his tail side to side. The silence was incredibly loud. The moment the rabbit ticked its head above the grass, he bolted through the grass.
The rabbit spotted him and pelted through the grass. Just a mouse-length away he pulled on the rabbits tail, pushing his weight onto it and bit its neck. It squeaked before it went limp, he panted sticking his tongue out. How do those Windclan cats ever have that much speed? He gulped as he sat to catch his breath, watching the rabbit with dim eyes.
Once he finally caught his stamina back, he picked up the rabbit by the scruff, holding his head up high to make sure he didn't trip over his own paws by the weight of the rabbit. Arriving at the mouse he buried, he dropped the rabbit and dug up the mouse. Grabbing the rabbit and mouse in one go as he struggled to keep his balance. Then off he went back to camp. He wondered where Songblossom has gone off to.

Re: Firefly Cove
> Batblood
[Solo hunting]
The black tom trotted through the forst, hunting once more on his mind. He had gone on a self-organized hunting patrol maybe one or two days ago, but the freshkill pile never seemed full enough for him to be truly satisfied with it. Maybe it was something he could incorporate into his schedule as well, so his day would go as followed; Prepare himself for the day by grooming his fur, head out early to train, hopefully avoiding others, patrols if he was placed on any, check the borders to make sure the patrol had done their job, checking and if needed stocking the freshkill pile.
It was quite a lot for one day, especially if he wanted to also do other things like show up for meetings and take part in events. He had time to figure it out later since he had now arrived to the Firefly Cove, the place he had picked to try his hunting luck with today.
With a deep breath and shake of his head he attempted to get away the thoughts he was sure would only distract his hunting, and crouched down somewhat as he began his soundless movements through the vegetation. Jaws parted as he tasted the air for scents. Bird? Rabbits maybe? Both seemed likly to be around, but the smell he caught first was of vole. He frowned slight, somewhat disappointed with it since voles were so much smaller than both birds and ribbits, but he would be a fool to pass up prey, so instead of complaining or being picky like a little kit, he sunk down further and began to track down his kill.
It didn't take him long to find it, but against his expectations, the vole wasn't scavenging for food, but rather bringing food back. Batblood saw it slip down into its burrow, but he wouldn't give up that easily, and lunged after it, reaching down his paw into the hole. Quick as a flash he managed to pull out the creature killing it with a bite while his paw went down again. Surely there wasn't just one. It was already Greenleaf so the things should be multiplying like rabbits. And as he had hoped he found another furry being in there. Then a third, and even a fourth. In rapid succession he got them, killed them, and added them to the little death-pile at his paws.
He reached down one last time just to make sure, but that seemed to be all. He examined the four he had got. Two seemed older, and two younger. Though not young enough to be from his year still. When it all came down to it he didn't really care about their ages -- as long as they weren't sick or anything -- and he picked them to up to return tom, chucking one between his shoulders as there was already enough to carry in his jaws.

Re: Firefly Cove
Thrushfur scampered slowly to the cove, his paws ached and little a urged to head back to camp. But this was a number one priority to train Weaselpaw. He hoped for the tom to be a great warrior in the making. He guessed the black tom would grow to be even taller than him in the coming moons. He groomed his chest fur licking his lips. Then turning towards Weaselpaw. Perhaps they should get back to camp and let him get to know his denmates. Though he also wanted to take with Quailfur. He wondered how she was doing. Perhaps snoozing? Talking with other queens? He simply fantasized about it.

Weaselpaw huffed, stupid short legs! He wondered how his mentor; Thrushfur even managed to be able to… his movements stopped gapping at the scenery. A cliché movement of wind blew through his fur. He looked towards his mentor who’s blue eyes were the icy and burning into his. He looked away seeing a brown blur in the flowers. Large rounded ears pricked above the grass angling around. It’s a rabbit! He warily looked towards Thrushfur.

" This is Firefly Cove. Cats usually come here to catch small rabbits or birds. Especially during Newleaf and Greenleaf where prey is rich. "
he gave a small smile seeing that Weaselpaw was having a great time. He perked his ears pinpointing a rabbit nearby. He looked towards Weaselpaw knowing that the apprentice realized it too.
" No we’re not going to hunt anytime soon. But for now we’ve got to go back to camp. I’m sure you’d like to talk to your denmates more. " Thrushfur mewed.
" Now come on. We’ve already gotten so much to see here. "
Thrushfur answered with a deadpan voice. Turning away from the rabbit whom’s already darted off in the green grasses.

" Okay.. "
Weaselpaws tail drooped. He wanted to be able to stay here more and roll around in the flowers. He glanced over the fields to the coast. He jumped, a rumbling underground made him raise his paw. But shook his head moving towards Thrushfur. The exploration made him see the true world. It was vast and an incredible experience for him. He also hoped to curl up in his warm bed and dream of hunting prey. Following Thrushfur back to camp.

Re: Firefly Cove
~ Sparrowflight ~
[ Solo hunting and shenanigan post ]
The warm air of Green-leaf was a rejuvenating thing. Freshly healed brown paws flew through the territory as Sparrowflight practically leapt for joy at being released from the confines of the camp, racing through her forest home had never felt so... freeing. The buzz of insects and the chirping of birds made her experience all the more vibrant as she headed to the stretch of territory that her and her clanmates had worked so hard to reclaim.
Skidding to a stop just outside the clearing, the Thunderclan deputy took a moment to catch their breath. Green eyes closed as they allowed the fresh scent of the cove to wash over them, no longer tainted by blood and fear this place was a perfect area to hunt. But first she had a job to do.
Eyes snapped back open as she quickly scoured the edge of where Riverclan's previous border had lain. Aha... The tips of some shells were still visible from those coward's dirty tricks. Quickly grasping each sharp little shard in her teeth, Sparrowflight began to pull up and toss every shell she could find into a rough pile. Her personal vengeance would be exacted against these darn shells that had stuck her on bedrest for far too many sunrises.
There were... Far more little traps planted throughout the clearing than she had anticipated, but with a final precise sweep of the cove it seemed that her efforts had been effective. A rather impressive pile of shells and sharp little rocks now lay in the center of the clearing, and since they were no longer a threat unless some-cat decided to bellyflop onto them Sparrowflight elected to leave the pile as it was. Perhaps some-cat would find it interesting.
But now that the tedium was out of the way she could properly enjoy the rest of her day... with hunting!!!
A pleased little rumbling purr echoed through her chest as Sparrowflight gleefully padded back into the underbrush before dropping into a crouch and scenting the area. Perhaps it was how long she had been stuck in the camp, but every scent n the woods felt stronger. More encompassing. So when a whiff of a particular type of bird hit her muzzle, the deputy almost immediately began salivating. Quail... Stars above, she hadn't seen one of them on the freshkill pile in ages. Those chubby birds were a delightful piece of prey, and an absolute treat to share.
Gentle pawsteps drew her further into the underbrush as she followed the scent, and before long some gentle whistling calls could be heard up ahead. Slowing her pace, green eyes peered through the underbrush to spot a gaggle of the chubby fowl pecking and scratching around the forest floor. She could probably only carry a few of them, but what a nice addition to the clan's freshkill that would be!
One of the tittering round birds seemed to get into a spat with another, chirping and flapping at each other before the victor of whatever squabble had occurred stood proudly over a smattering of rather chubby looking grubs on the forest floor. The defeated opponent toddled away from the group rather quickly, intent on finding their own tasty treat and Sparrowflight slowly stalked after them as she stayed firmly hidden in the lush undergrowth that Green-leaf had blessed them with.
Pausing momentarily as the bird froze and glanced around, Sparrowflight lowered herself into her hunting crouch and prepared to spring... N O W. Bursting out from the leaves that concealed her, the tan molly leapt towards the throat of the chunky bird with outstretched claws and determination steeling her gaze. It's frantic flapping and sudden warning call were abruptly cut off as the deputy latched her jaws onto it's throat with a rumbling growl. It thrashed for a moment, shuffling further into the brush as Sparrowflight pressed her jaws ever tighter before finally going limp in her grasp.
Staying still and leaving her jaws tight on her prey, Sparrowflight took a few heaving breaths as she confirmed that the plump bird had truly passed. When no further movement disturbed the underbrush she released its neck and offered up her thanks to Starclan for the prey and drug the hefty bird under a rather leafy bush. That would have to be good enough cover for this prey, as she was determined to snag another one of these birds before they had fully scampered off.
Speaking of... The tittering and light whistles that had previously emanated from the group of chubby fowl had gone suspiciously silent. Their scent was still strong, so they couldn't have gone far, but the clearing that the group had inhabited was thoroughly deserted. Silently Sparrowflight sniffed at the ground, observing the kicked up soil that led further into the forest before resuming her hunt. Swift pawsteps brought her closer to a new clearing where her prey had nervously regrouped and resumed their own search for food. Their tittering was quieter than before, and it seemed that the largest of the bunch had posted themselves atop a fallen tree to survey the area to prevent further loss.
That one would be her target.
Slinking across the forest floor, the tan molly kept herself low to the ground as she darted between bushes and trees to edge her way around the clearing towards the lookout. Stopping and starting as the bird glanced around to the surrounding forest, Sparrowflight had just a few tail-lengths to go when it spotted her.
The warning call was swift. Feathers flapped frantically in alarm as the shrill whistle was issued and the quail leapt from the log. With a yowl of challenge, Sparrowflight followed suit; springing up and launching herself from the fallen tree to give chase to the birds that had already begun to flee from her hunt. They were quick little buggers. If she hadn't been as familiar with the territory as she was, she would have surely lost track of their frantic sprint through the woods. However, her paws were quick and her mind just as fast.
Cresting another fallen log, the tan molly pushed off as hard as she could towards the lookout that had done their job a bit too well. Brown paws connected with feathers, and the frantic flap of wings accompanied her sudden purchase. Flinging her weight to the sides, Sparrowflight yanked this way and that to destabilize the quail before clamping her jaws onto the back of it's neck. This bird struggled longer than the last, but its efforts to escape were quickly thwarted by a sharp 'thwack' of her paw to it's head.
Finally her prey went still, and with panting breaths Sparrowflight offered up her thanks once more. Taking another moment to regain her breath, she grinned down at her catch gleefully before pulling it onto her back and returning to the bush she had dragged it's companion to. Eager jaws clamped onto the bird as she slowly made her way back to camp with her two prizes.
Perhaps things were looking up for her now...

Re: Firefly Cove
Pine’leap narrowed her eyes. She burst ahead, crashing through the bushes. Why?! Why did she not report the patrol? Now she had to hunt. what a mousebrain I am… she thought sadly. Never mind. The clan comes first. She padded over to the bushes where mice usually hunted and caught a vole and a squirrel.

Re: Firefly Cove
Possumpaw
◖ Male[he/him] - Post 59 ◗
The tom was off again, but this time he was planning on finding something to gift to one of his clanmates(bliss is not going to reveal who). This cat has done something for him, so he wanted to repay them with something. Sure he didn't have to, but he wanted to. Possumpaw's paws felt around for the path that he wanted to take. He knew exactly where he was going and that was Firefly cove. There was plenty of wildflowers here from what he heard and this cat deserved this for all that they have done for him and the other apprentices.
Using his whiskers Possumpaw felt around for the pretty flowers before coming across a blue flower. He didn't know what color it was, so he just guessed that it was pretty before picking it. Once he got a couple he decided to head back to camp to gift them. He ended up going the long way back.

Re: Firefly Cove
[Hunting Post]
Mapleleaf, although she had gone out hunting yesterday, decided it was best to hunt once more. She had to make sure the fresh-kill pile was stocked of course! And she had to make use of green-leaf while it’s still at large. Now what should she hunt? She could carry only one rabbit… perhaps she’d go for birds! She can carry three of those by their feet, and can feed a lot of the Clan!
Satisfied by her choice of prey to go after, and the challenge they’d pose to her hind legs, Mapleleaf dropped into her crouch and began to scent birds. Perhaps I should go for… robins and thrushes… they seem to be very plump birds…
After deciding what to catch for ThunderClan, she crept forward towards the strongest scent: thrush! There seemed to be only two others in that small flock of theirs. So… which one to pick? The she-cat surveyed the birds that were in front of her, and she stalked so the wind didn’t have a chance to spoil her hunt.
The calico then stalked forward and leaped, though the leap was sloppy and she didn’t time it as well as she typically does. Fortunately, she snagged the wing of her prey and managed to drag it down with herself.
Now that the other two thrush have fled, it was time to find robins. Those were very plump birds and would surely feed at most 3 warriors.
Mapleleaf, after burying the thrush, sat up and began to survey the rest of Firefly Cove. She saw a lone robin plucking something out of the ground. That bird is distracted with a worm… perfect. she thought to herself as she dipped down into her hunting crouch and began to move forward. I have to time this right…. The she-cat stalked forward and waited- it was a long while before the robin decided enough was enough and began to fly. The calico leaped as it began to get high enough and wrapped her jaws around the bird; landing with it limp in her jaws. She then went back to where she buried her thrush and buried the robin alongside with it and continued to hunt. She wanted to make sure she couldn’t carry anything but birds.
After repeating the same process for the robin she had hunted previously, she ended up with another robin- just as plump as the last one too! That was enough hunting for now. Perhaps she’d hunt in Muskrat Mire and get a muskrat or two. With her thrush and robins in tow, Mapleleaf padded back to camp to dispose of her catches.
[+ 1 Thush, +2 Robins]
