Once they had arrived, Singepaw watched Eveningmist begin stalking off towards some prey. She supposed that meant she was okay to begin hunting on her own as well. Tasting the air, all she could detect was a strange scent that she'd never smelled before. Hmm... Was it even prey? She didn't know. Maybe she'd be better off trying to hunt something if she had an idea of what it actually was. Backtracking a little, she approached a narrow clearing and tried again, this time picking up the scent of a shrew. It darted briefly into the open and she took the opportunity to catch it. After she crept just a little bit closer, she pounced swiftly, aiming to come down with her paws right on top of it. The landing was a bit rocky, and she wobbled a teensy bit but managed to quickly stabilize herself and swipe up the rodent, administering a killing bite.

Things were going decently until Eveningmist mentioned that strange smell. Oh. Was that the thing she'd smelled earlier? She'd assumed it was some sort of prey or plant she just wasn't familiar with, and therefore hadn't mentioned anything about it. "O-okay, I think I'll s-stay right h-here." The way her mentor explained it, it sounded like it had the potential to be something dangerous. She wasn't sure if she wanted to continue hunting by herself. What if she ventured off slightly and ended up bumping into it? Perhaps it would be best to just sit and watch from the same spot for now.

Glancing back at his apprentice once more, Eveningmist offered a small, reassuring smile before turning back and making his way over to the scent. Once he got close enough to identify what it was, he could feel his heart drop. He could recognize that scent anywhere. Coyotes. Back when he was still an apprentice in shadowclan, he had encountered on while on a patrol. Luckily, now it was just a scent, but he wondered what that meant for the clan. Were they coming back to clan territories? The large tom could feel his fur start to bristle at the thought, and his uneasy gaze shot up to scan the trees around him. Nothing else seemed to be out of the ordinary, but you could never be too sure. Backup up a few paces, he turned back around and jogged back to where he left Singepaw. ¨Singepaw, we must go report this to Buckstar at once. I coould smell coyotes, and while I didnt see any, a scent alone means something must be amiss.¨ he hurriedly explained, glancing back over his shoulder before looking back at her. He started running back to camp after giving Singepaw a moment to process the information.

Eaglepaw looked back at the newcomer sharply. She hadn't expected to encounter someone here. It was Gravehound, a mute warrior she vaguely recognized, and he appeared rather confused. Shoot, he's going to ruin my plans!

With somehow even a more confused expression the fluffy tom rapid fire signed 'What project could involve a live squirrel?!?' Honestly Gravehound had taken part in his fair share of pranks but this was really bizarre. So he wasnt letting the apprentice escape without explaining things, Gravehound wanted in! 'Are. Are you gonna release that somewhere?'

Eaglepaw's sign language knowledge was vague but she figured out that this cat insisted on knowing what she was going to do with the squirrel. She decided to admit to it. Stupid warriors always ruined her fun.
"I was going to release it in the nursery secretly to cause some panic as it tries to escape. But, now that you know, I guess that's not happening...."

To a kit Gravehound was a wonderful role model kind and courteous, to an apprentice he was a good example for the most part shy but determined, to a fellow warrior he was no such thing. As it went Gravehound was clearer with age and as one grew older it became clearer that the tom while a good warrior was not to be taken too seriously. So as he signed 'No no no you cant release it in the nursery... The apprentices den is much smarter and will be much funnier.' his poker face try as he might was ruined but amused twitching whiskers.

Eaglepaw observed the tom. Something about the apprentices. The apprentices' den! His face was giving away amusement. So, he wasn't going to stop her? Eaglepaw though about her prank.
"I guess. Though apprentices can hunt, unlike kits, so they'll probably catch it quickly. Unless they're asleep..."

Wasn't this where that idiot that got mauled was buried?

Hareflood decided he didn't care as he entered the grove, tail lashing as he scented the air. He just wanted to catch something and be done with this.

The meeting probably wasn't over yet.. which decreased the chances of someone finding him out here. A good thing, because he wasn't in the mood for company after the Terrible News about his one and only Eveningmist.

What an awful time. It was like Buckstar intentionally wanted to ruin his life.

Sighing, Hareflood crouched down and began to slowly track the scent of a mouse, trying to be mindful of his sore, battered paws.

The fluffy feline popped his head up from where he was crouched. Dirt smudges littering from his face, a few crumbs tumbling off his cheek. Licking his maw he padded towards...what's his face. Bunnypool? Rabbitstream? Shaking himself somewhat clean he tottered from side to side, brows furrowed.

"I could have sworn Buckstar said we couldn't be here." he stated, tail flicking behind him. "Something about Coyotes and being killed and whatnot. What if you had been eaten?" he asked, pushing himself towards his clanmate.

[BEAR.]

"He said Sunkissed Creek, dung-dip." Hareflood scowled as the mouse he'd been following scuttled off into some hole. "Thanks," sourness laced his voice as he glanced at the dirty creature that approached him. "I'm sure the Clan will appreciate you scaring off everything from here to camp."

But he didn't care in the grand scheme of things. Hunting was just a cover - a way to explain the damage to his paws. "If you're such a tansy ass about the coyotes, why the hell are you even out here?"

The tom let out an audible "hurk" at the toms remark. Fluffing up his fur he slammed his paw down on the ground multiple times. "My point still stands, I'm no tansy. I came out here to show them who's boss and scare them off." he puffed proudly.

Not to brag or anything, but he was a big deal, and it was obvious. All these extras deserved to bow down to him as he reigned supreme. That includes those gross Coyotes. He'd show them who's boss.

Did he now? Hareflood looked at Lilacsnow curiously. Was he actually courageous enough to fend off a coyote, or was it just dumb gloating?

There was only one way to find out.

"Think you can take on a coyote?" Hareflood took on a challenging tone. "Then why don't you put your claws where your mouth is. Sunkissed Creek isn't too far from here.. you drive off the coyotes there, and Buckstar will see you as the badass you are."
